Western Suffolk BOCES provides career training and literacy programs to
help adults meet their career goals by developing skills essential for gainful
employment, job advancement and new career opportunities.

years, the Aircraft
Maintenance Technology program has
prepared students
to become certified
Airframe and Powerplant technicians. This
program is operated
through Western Suffolk BOCES and is
approved by the Federal Aviation Administration*.
Trained aircraft maintenance technicians are in
great demand on Long Island and across the country.
With three major metropolitan airports, six regional
airports and numerous energy stations, local opportunities for career growth are tremendous. Certified
technicians will find good salaries, excellent benefits
and personal satisfaction in this exciting field.
Our facility at Republic Airport in Farmingdale
offers small classes, state-of-the-art equipment and
highly skilled and experienced instructors.
Admission Requirements
Students interested in enrolling in the AMT program must meet with a Career Counselor prior to
registration. To be admitted, a student must meet
one of the following criteria:
a. proof of a U.S. high school diploma or GED
b. if from a war torn country, a self-certifying letter
c. an authorized evaluation of credentials if credentials are from another country
After individual counseling and review of the
student’s ability to succeed, a counselor may
recommend a period of remediation before entry

Approved By
The School of Aviation Maintenance Technology of
Western Suffolk BOCES, located at Wilson Technological Center’s Republic campus, is approved by the
Federal Aviation Administration. Those who successfully complete this BOCES program are, therefore, qualified to sit for the FAA licensing exams in
Airframe and Powerplant.
Program Schedule
You can earn your license in as little as 20 months if
attending year-round. General, Airframe & Powerplant make-up sessions are also available.
Day Classes: M–F; 8–2:30 pm
Fall semester: Sept.–Dec.
Spring semester: Jan.–May
Summer session: May–August

Financial Information
Installment payment plan and financial aid are available for those who qualify.
Tuition: $28,800 (effective July 1, 2014)
Additional Costs: Uniform & Boots: $200
3 FAA exams, ($150/exam)

Federal Student Aid (FSA)
Financial Aid is available to those who qualify. Eligibility
is determined by completing the FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid, online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Financial Aid consists of the Federal Pell Grant and
Federal Student Loans to those who are eligible.
To receive federal funds, a student must have a
High School Diploma or GED and be a US Citizen or
Eligible Non-Citizen.
*Program is an approved Federal Aviation Regulation School. (FAR147.23§26)

Initial deposits are not covered by financial aid. If
tuition is not fully covered by financial aid, a payment
plan will be sent to you for the balance of tuition by
the Bursar’s Office. Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress to remain eligible for federal
funding, go to www.wsboces/amt-sap.

Transfer Credits
Transfer credits are accepted for work successfully
completed in other FAA 147 approved programs and
FAA recognized field experience. This program is an
approved Federal Aviation Administration School
under FAR147.23§26.

Advanced Study
Opportunities for advanced study toward a bachelor’s
degree are available at colleges such as Pennsylvania
College of Technology, Embry Riddle Aeronautical
