Dear Stitchers,
I am happy to be home in Houston, but still basking in the memories of our glorious trip to Africa. I had
the most amazing time with my mother and one of my daughters seeing interesting culture, amazing
animals, and meeting incredible people! On our safari, we looked for the iconic "Big Five" of Africa: lion,
elephant, cape buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros. With the shop never out of mind, I started thinking
about the "Big Five" of needlepoint: canvasses, threads, books, tools, and finishing. I am happy to
report that while we did not see the African variety of the "Big Five”, we have all of the above in the
needlepoint variety at the shop now!
We just finished our sale and I hope that you had the opportunity to purchase a little (or big) gift for
yourself. Hopefully, your stitching will distract you from the Houston summer climate! Even as I gear up
for my June trip to the annual needlepoint market, we have new things arriving everyday. Think about
committing to that last stocking that you need to stitch, or pick up a quick ornament that you can have
with you on vacation. And, should you have a project that calls for ribbon, we are all enjoying the
Treenway Silk Ribbons that we have recently added to our thread selection. They have some wonderful
colors and I love working with them.
We have several new books that have arrived at Needle House. This newsletter features Stitch INs &
OUTs by Little Shoppe Canvas Company, Inc. And just this week we received the Needle House
Edition of Quick Stitch Reference and Quick Stitch Variations. These are small books perfect for your
summer vacation stitching! Many new "tools" or stitching accessories have come in recently. Elizabeth
Turner's Bead Buddies are a great addition to your next project that requires beading and we have
some more of our unique laying tools made from porcupine quills with beaded handles. With the
holidays headed our way for 2013, please note our finishing deadlines for all of your decorations and
gifts.
Enjoy your summer and stop in to Needle House to see all the “cool” things that we have in store for
you!
Happy Stitching,
Holiday Finishing Deadlines
With all of the wonderful projects our stitchers are working on, it is that time of year to talk about
holiday finishing. October 1st will be our deadline for stockings to be completed in time for Santa
Claus to fill them up on Christmas Eve! The holiday finishing deadline for ornaments, pillows, and
stand-ups will be September 14th. Beginning August 15th, each stitcher is limited to two (2) items
for holiday finishing. If you have more than two items in a series and need fabric for later use,
please let us know.
Please check our website and Facebook page starting on September 1st as we hope to be able to
extend the deadline if possible! As always, it is our desire to provide you with beautiful finishing at
Needle House!

Sneak Peek of Penelope - Peter’s friend, Penelope
(a.k.a. Petunia in former newsletters!) has just
hopped off to the finisher and will take her place on
display at Needle House soon!
Laurie Walden has created a spectacular
companion for her Peter Rabbit and you will just
love the pair of them!
Stitch guides for both of these adorable rabbits will
be available in August. Laurie’s Thursday class is a
great opportunity to work on these projects if that
works with your schedule. Come and see Peter
and Penelope at Needle House.

Stitch INs & OUTs - Interiors and Exteriors Plus
We can hardly keep this new book from Little Shoppe
Canvas Company, Inc. in stock. It has already been very
popular! With categories including Baskets, Fabric,
Windows, and Floors, Stitch INs & OUTs is an excellent
addition to your bookshelf. If you are stitching a
bookshelf, you will find an entire section on Houses and
Moldings! This is a must see at Needle House next time
you are in to see us!
Great Layers for Needlepoint
A book to ignite your creative spark! Julia Snyder gives us
so many options for creating a layered effect with different
textures and threads. Clear and useful diagrams help you
keep your place in the process. Clothing or textile areas
on your canvas will become rich tapestries if this book’s
techniques are employed! Equally interesting use of these
composite stitches would be for background hills or landscape areas. This
book is full of stitch combination that you have not seen anywhere else. You
will find yourself looking for places to include them on your next project!

Pavement 8
Stitch INs & OUTs
By Little Shoppe Canvas Company, Inc.
This is just the stitch for a road or a pathway ~ but do
not let that limit the possibilities of this fun stitch. Try
using an overdyed floss or two different values of a
color to show movement in the pavement. A variation
on an alternating mosaic stitch, Pavement 8 will add
dimension and depth to your next project.
