“Empowered by God’s Holy Word,
we joyfully share the love of Jesus with all people
through worship, teaching, fellowship, service and witnessing.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------DECEMBER 2013
Dear Family of God at Blessed Savior,
I pray, as always, that this newsletter finds you safe, healthy,
faithful, and thankful -- and especially, BLESSED BY THE LORD.
1 John 3:1
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be
called children of God! And that is what we are!
Wow! What a statement! Indeed, the Father has Lavished His Love on
us in so many ways! Think of all the Blessings that God pours down on
you. Think of all the great things that are going on at Blessed Savior.
And He continues to Bless us with loving people, opportunities to serve
Him and our neighbor, and the privilege to grow in our relationship with
Him.
As we again approach the stable and the manger, we hear again the
Angel chorus remind us of the greatest Blessing. The Lord Lavished His
Love on us in sending Jesus to die that we might live. We are the
children of God, “that is what we are!”
1 John 3:1
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be
called children of God! And that is what we are!
In Service of Jesus Christ,
Pastor Roeglin
Advent from Colossians 3:2-4
December is usually thought of as the
month of Advent. It is a time when we are to be
thinking about preparations for the coming of
Christ. The very word itself, Advent, means
coming. When taken from the Greek, parousia, its
use in Scripture almost always represents the
second coming of Christ. So as we begin to enter
into the season of Advent, it would only be fitting
for us to think about and prepare for the second
coming of Christ.
This can be a challenging task, especially as
we are busy with all the preparations that are
necessary for Christmas. Presents need to be
purchased. Decorations must be hung, and who
could forget about the Christmas tree? These are
all wonderful things that help us celebrate the birth
of our Lord Jesus, the Christ. However, if we focus
too heavily on these things, which are earthly, we
may miss the season of Advent as it passes us right
by.
The Apostle Paul writes, “Set your minds on
things that are above, not on things that are on
earth.” (Colossians 3:2) The Christmas joy and
celebration we have is in Christ, Himself, not on the
way in which we celebrate. It is important to be
around family and friends, but this is because
together we make up the body of Christ. We have
died with respect to our lives, and joined with
others in the body of Christ. “For you have died,
and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
(Colossians 3:3)
Christmas is an important celebration in the
Church year, but we must not overlook the season
of Advent. So as you are making preparations for
the celebration of our Lord, and spending time with
family and friends, be sure to stay focused on Jesus
and his coming again. Because, “when Christ who
is your life appears, then you also will appear with
him in glory.” (Colossians 3:4) For this is where our
real hope is placed!

“What happened to our kids? They were so
excited about our Lord and His church, but I
think they have lost their faith.”
Or have you been wondering what happened to
your own enthusiasm about our Lord or His
church? Wondering when the Lord will return
and bring the joy back into your worship life, or
what you can do to get that feeling back?
Rev. Jonathan Fisk, author of Broken:
7 “Christian” Rules that Every Christian
Ought to Break as often as Possible serves as
associate pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church in
Naperville, Ill. He will be in St. Louis to share
with us what he calls “Counterfeit Christianity”
that has been fed to our family, friends and even
us—causing despair because it is not the real
thing. Having this identified, Rev. Fisk will
show us true Christianity and how we can be
the bearers of that truth.
Dear Members of Blessed Savior,
Thank you for your care, concern, thoughts and
prayers during my mother’s death. It was such
a terrible car accident, and so sad. We know
that she is up in heaven with Jesus, and that is
very comforting to know.
We appreciate your thoughtfulness very much.
In Christ,
