High school food drive challenge October 1 to 31, 2014 Mission: Challenging Arizona high schools to help provide food and hope to the hungry of Arizona B ! e g han c e h et w w w. Firs t FoodB ank.o rg / Projec tHu n g er WHAT IS PROJECT HUNGER? Project Hunger is an annual food drive challenge engaging high school participation across St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance’s service area. Area high schools compete against each other in collecting food and funds. Awards are given based on most meals per capita. The food collected will benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance and the hungry families in Arizona. HOW DO STUDENTS PARTICIPATE? Staff advisors from high school clubs or student organizations can register their high school food drive at www.FirstFoodBank.org/PROJECTHUNGER or via email addressed to fooddrives@firstfoodbank.org. Student organizations within a high school can combine efforts to reach their school challenge goals. Uniting of all student efforts to raise the most food and funds possible provides hunger relief for so many in their community. WHERE DOES THE FOOD GO? Right back into the local community! St. Mary’s partners with more than 300 agencies in our service area. These partners distribute emergency food boxes, as well as hosting mobile pantries. The donated canned food is used to make up these boxes to meet specific USDA nutritional requirements. 1 in 4 children, 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 7 Arizonans who make up Arizona’s food insecure population will benefit from your donations. Contact the food drive team if your pick-up day hasn’t already been scheduled. i. Reconsider if it’s possible for you to now bring in the donation rather than use a large truck. b.
