Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
DAY 1 - 2
THE NAIROBI NURSERY
During your stay in Nairobi at Hemingways, a beautiful hotel in
Karen, you will have VIP access to the Nairobi Nursery outside
of public visiting hours including an intimate experience with
the elephant orphans whilst they are out browsing within the
forests of Nairobi National Park, as well as encountering the
DSWT’s resident orphaned black rhinos.
Your time at the Nursery will also allow you to meet some of
the famous faces of the Nursery Keepers and the DSWT team.
This special visit will then be followed by evening sundowners
with Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick on the veranda of her home
at the Nairobi Nursery within Nairobi National Park.
DAY 3 - 4
UMANI SPRINGS - KIBWEZI FOREST
Leaving Nairobi you will be transferred by road 3½ hours further
south to the remarkable Kibwezi Forest, Kenya’s last remaining
groundwater forest and one of the DSWT’s protected habitats.
Here you will discover the forest and its surrounding wilderness
from your exclusive home-away-from home at the DSWT’s private
Umani Springs eco-property, which offers tranquility in stylish
comfort.
During this leg of your safari you will be hosted and guided by the
DSWT’s Field Manager whilst having the opportunity to visit the
Chyulu Hills National Park and joining one of the DSWT’s field
teams out on patrol within the forest.
DAY 5 - 6
ITHUMBA CAMP - NORTHERN AREA OF TSAVO EAST
After the delights of the Kibwezi Forest you will be driven 2 hours
by road to the remote wilderness of Tsavo East’s Northern Area to
Ithumba Camp. Ithumba is a simple but beautiful property that
you can enjoy exclusively, ably guided by our team.
This rustic yet stylish camp is based at the foot of Ithumba Hill,
commanding views across the Yatta Plateau offering a truly wild
experience. Sleeping under canvas in comfortable safari-style tents
you can shower under the stars and immerse yourself in the sounds
of nature, whilst being wined and dined in style.
Ithumba is where one of the DSWT’s two orphan relocation units
are based in Tsavo, and where you will have the opportunity to
meet and enjoy the Ithumba orphans, their keepers and even their
wild elephant friends.
DAY 7 - 8
