DAY 02: MASAAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
After breakfast, depart to Maasai Mara National Reserve which is in the south western part of Kenya and
forms part of the greater eco-system that encompasses the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The
Masai Mara is one of the best known and most visited reserves in Africa.
Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park, surrounded by
concession areas and tribal lands of the Maasai tribes’ people. These are unfenced from the Mara and act
as a buffer zone for the National Park and form part of the migration area. The Masai Mara consists of
open savannah, rolling grasslands and undulating hills. July to September sees the annual migration of
wildebeest, zebra and gazelle coming from the plains of the Serengeti. Driven by dry conditions in the
Serengeti and led by the lightning and thunder to the north, huge herds of mammals cross the Tanzanian
border and rivers to reach the Mara's grasslands. Drive back to the lodge in time to freshen up for dinner
and overnight.
Overnight: Mara Sopa Lodge

DAY 03: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
You will spend your day in the park and enjoy the sheer profusion of life supported by the Masai Mara &
Serengeti Ecosystem which is beyond belief. It is home to many other species of mammals – Leopards,
cheetah, hyena, rhino, families of elephant, herds of cape buffalo, the elegant giraffe, eland, various
species of antelope and gazelle, monkey, families of warthog and a host of others. Masai Mara is also
home to over 500 species of birds. Ostrich and secretary birds can be seen wandering through the grass,
whilst black crested snake eagles and African fish eagles hunt from the air. Flocks of the bizarre-looking
and large marabou stork can be seen sitting in trees. Ruppell's Griffon vultures and Egyptian vultures
follow the Great Migration, gorging themselves on carcasses left behind in the Masai Mara.
The reptiles of the Masai Mara are often over-looked, however there is plenty to keep the herper
occupied. The most visible of the Masai Mara reptiles is undoubtedly the Nile crocodile, which you will
see probably in the Mara & Talek Rivers. If the timing is right, you may even see a crocodile make a kill
during the famous wildebeest river crossings.
There is also a large variety of snakes in the Masai Mara (including huge African rock pythons, blacknecked spitting cobras and puff adders), lizards such as the enigmatic red-headed rock agamas and
chameleons, and the well-respected leopard tortoises. At an extra cost, you can also visit a Maasai Village
to experience this nomadic tribe’s way of life and see their colorful culture.

The park is a place for a variety of flora and fauna; Ornithologists often describe Lake Nakuru as “the
most tremendous bird spectacle in the world”. The Lesser flamingo can be distinguished by its deep red
carmine bill and pink plumage unlike the greater, which has a bill with a black tip. The Lesser flamingos
are ones that are commonly pictured in documentaries mainly because they are large in number.
There are estimated to be over a million lesser flamingos (Greater and Lesser) and other water birds
including a variety of terrestrial birds numbering about 450 species in total has their habitat in this park.
There are up 56 different species of mammals including white rhinos, lions, leopards, baboons.etc.

DAY 05: TSAVO WEST NATIONAL PARK
Begin your drive to Tsavo West National Park with picnic lunch enroute. At just over 8,000 square
miles; Tsavo is the largest national park in Kenya and one of the largest in the world. Because of its size
the park was split into two, Tsavo West and Tsavo East, for easy administration. Located midway
between Nairobi and the coast, the area boasts volcanic hills, four rivers, more than 60 major mammal
species and 1,000 plant species. The northern part of Tsavo West is the most developed and has
spectacular scenery with a rolling volcanic landscape carpeted in long grass and dense bush.
Although the tall vegetation makes game spotting trickier than in some of the other parks, Tsavo West's
bio-diversity is amazing. The landscape is a mixture of grassland and forest shrub vegetation. Thus
driving and exploring the vegetation almost assures you close encounters with the following animals:
lions, leopard, cheetah, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, kongoni, waterbuck, klipspringer, impala, gazelles,
buffalos, and elephants. Apart from Tsavo’s elephant population there are many lion –some undoubtedly
the descendants of the infamous and feared “Man-eaters of Tsavo” popularized in the film Ghost in the
Darkness. In addition to lion the resident carnivores in Tsavo include serval, hyena, leopard, cheetah,
and caracal. The landscape is dominated, especially off the hills, by the giant baobab, a tree which is
reputed to live 1,000 years.
Tsavo West is famous for the Mzima Springs. This star attraction is a pool of natural spring water with
underwater viewing hides for observing hippos where a gushing supply of fresh, crystal clear water has
created an oasis for wildlife. A specially constructed underwater observatory provides visitors with a
unique view into the underwater world of Mzima. The water catchment is divided into two pools; here
you can view hippos and crocodiles. The upper pool is occupied by the hippos and lower pool by the
crocodiles.

and untapped arena of arid bush land which is washed by the azure and emerald meanderings of the
Galana river, guarded by the limitless lava reaches of the Yatta plateau and patrolled by some of the
