Become a Lifeguard
Lifeguards protect their community by recognizing,
preventing, and responding to water-related
emergencies. In order to get a position at most
facilities you need to become certified, and most
employers look for American Red Cross
Certifications.
Obtain your 2-year certification by taking the
lifeguarding course from the American Red Cross.
Courses take as little as 24 hours and emphasize
hand-on training supported by lifeguard instruction.

Program Requirements/Prerequisites:
• Must be at least 15 years of age
• Complete course pretest administered on the first
day of class

Become a
Water Safety Instructor
Learn to teach children and adults water safety,
survival, and swimming skills. Also make
community water safety presentations.
Obtain your 2-year certificate by taking the water
safety instructor course. Course can take as little
as 32 hours and emphasizes the practice of skills
and techniques needed to become a successful
water safety instructor.
Dates and Times:
Session I: January 5 - January 23
Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-9:30 PM
Saturday 8:00 AM-12:00 PM
Session II: January 26 - February 13
Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-9:30 PM
Saturday 8:00 AM-12:00 PM
Session III: February 16 - March 5
Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-9:30 PM
Saturday 8:00 AM-12:00 PM
Session IV: March 15 - 26, April 5 - 9
(no classes due to spring break)
Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-9:30 PM

Water Safety Instructor Training
