By Harvey Hedden COMPLETING THE ONLINE COURSE PROPOSAL FOR THE 2017 ILEETA CONFERENCE MARCH 20-25, 2017 CREATING A COURSE PROPOSAL ILEETA encourages everyone to submit course proposals What are you doing particularly well Innovative subject areas Remember your audience Must be instructor oriented WHAT ARE CONFERENCE ATTENDEES ASKING FOR? Courses specifically requested for 2017 by ILEETA members at the 2016 conference include: Remington 870 armorer, 1911 armorer, off duty encounters, interpersonal communication, de-escalation techniques, body worn cameras, pre-attack indicators, detecting terrorists, NARCAN, legal updates, crowd control, emotionally/mentally disturbed persons, media relations, creating a multi-agency shooting review team, EVOC, leadership, FTO/PTO, less lethal, PowerPoint for new trainers, excited delirium, expert testimony, use of force report writing, C.I.T. training, early warning systems, community policing/relations. PROPOSAL GUIDELINES No infomercials to sell a product, book, or service Not a bait class, (incomplete until they attend the rest of your program) What will they take back to their agency? Number of hours: 1:45, 3:45 are most popular, 1:45 blocks are repeated once 8 hour classes are generally only for live fire, certification and armorer courses What will completion enable attendee to do? What certifying authority, agency, company? If you enter more than the limits indicate they will be lost when downloaded. If instructor pre-requisites include in comments section Instructional Track: pick the one that best applies Previous experience: not required but will influence selection process COURSE LENGTH Attendance highest in shorter classes (1:45) Many attendees teach in a variety of disciplines and can’t dedicate a whole conference day to a single subject Shortest blocks are repeated which helps attendees with schedule conflicts CLASSROOM/AV REQUIREMENTS We try to match to anticipated needs, e.g. mats, anticipated attendance. No projectiles in hotel meeting rooms, these courses will be off-site All rooms will have projector, screen, speakers P.A. systems use is limited because of proximity of other classes but we have a few for larger audience courses SECONDARY INSTRUCTOR Generally only for hands on classes that require a second instructor for safety or to assist with direct instruction. They will receive a conference tuition waiver.
