WAP, has recently been launched.

accessible by any Lasallian with a mobile

information for the techie Lasallian. DLSL's
announcements, news tidbits, and contact information may
now be read right from the screens of your mobile phones or

One Sign of Faith. One La Salle

June 22, 2007 marked the beginning of
one vision and one spirit with the
launching of De La Salle Philippines' (DLSP)
One La Salle Scholarship Fund.
Administrators, faculty, staff, and students
from different La Salle schools gathered at
the St. Benilde Gym, La Salle Greenhills in
an effort to raise 1 Billion Pesos in five
years to cover 20% of the tuition and fees
of Lasallian students enrolled.
In his opening message, Br. Armin Luistro
FSC, Brother President of DLSP, stressed
that the evening's celebration is more than
raising funds, but more on celebrating the
deep bond of friendship and brotherhood
as Lasallians in the Philippines marked its
97th year. With almost 90,000 students,
6,000 faculty and staff, and 18 Lasallian
district schools nationwide, the One La
Salle Campaign will make the Lasallian
education available for all while keeping
the Lasallian fire burning.
The celebration kicked off with
performances from selected Lasallian
students and alumni artists who have made
big names in the entertainment industry
namely, JM Rodriguez (USLS Bacolod),
Rannie Raymundo (LSGH), Jett Pangan
(DLSU Manila), Cooky Chua (DLSU
Manila), Drae Ibañez (DLSU Manila), Migs
Mendoza (DLS Zobel), Gian Magdangal
(LSGH) and Gary Valenciano (LSGH). The
De La Salle Voices (DLSL) serenaded the
audience with their performance of “The
Lion Sleeps Tonight”. The Kundirana
(LSGH), the Bloomfields (LSGH), the young
Beatles' group, and the Brothers', Br.

Richie, Br. Felipe and Br. Arian, likewise
inspired the Lasallians in their group
performances. The live band of LSGH
alumna, Mr. Mel Villena, orchestrated all
performances that evening.
The evening program featured Dr. Loui
Chan Gatdula, a Lasallian scholar, DLSU
HSC alumnus and the top notcher in the
2007 Physician Board Exam. His struggles
in life served as an inspiration for the
scholarship campaign to touch the lives of
many. Another highlight was the donation
of the world class live-in training center in
Tagaytay City, valued at 150 Million Pesos
by the USLS Bacolod Batch '58
representative, who will be
celebrating their
Golden Anniversary
next year. With this initial
donation, DLSP aims to touch more
than 18,000 lives as Lasallians
nationwide think as one.
The launching culminated with the
singing of the “We Are One” theme
song by Mr. Montel Acoymo, LSGH
Alumna, and the Kundirana
members. Lasallian performers and
guest artists all joined in the singing
of the Alma Mater Song rendered in
two local dialects, Ilonggo and
Bisaya, in sign language as well as
in the traditional English version.
Penny-Reyes Velasco,
environmentalist and president
of Happy Earth Inc. discussed
the effects of climate changes
in the Philippine setting. She
also clarified issues concerning
global warming.
The Science Department of CEAS,
College LRC, Student Government, and the
Council Of Student Organizations supported
the film showing/forum aimed at the
promotion of environmental awareness and
protection.

Marlon C. Pareja, Chair of
Biological Sciences
Department, De La Salle
Canlubang Environmental
Officer, Mr. Bjorn Santos,
representatives from Lipa City
CENRO, faculty members from
San Pablo Colleges, and DLSL
faculty members.
June 2007 BOT Meeting
Last June 13, De La Salle Lipa's Board of Trustees had
their quarterly meeting at the Board Room of the Sen. Jose
Diokno Building. Highlights of
the meeting included
discussions of plans for
the establishment of the
College of International
Hospitality
Management to
take care of

Tourism,
Culi
nary Arts and related courses. These programs are currently
under the College of Business, Economics, Accountancy &
Management (CBEAM).
Also during the BOT meeting, DLSL management was
instructed to get the costing of the transmission lines
relocation to give way for the planned chapel construction
next year. The needs of foreign students were also
addressed. There is a possibility that an Office for Foreign
Students, which will serve as a one stop shop to assist
prospective students in choosing a program, dorm, student
visa, guidance on local culture, etc.

Chancellor attends Smart Click Opening

Br. Manny Hilado FSC welcomed
the nursery pupils last June 14, 2007
when the PLC opened its classes for this
school year.
The students were quite ecstatic
during the balloon twisting activity
held in one of the nursery classrooms.
Br. Manny made sure that each pupil
in class received a balloon shaped in
various designs such as dinosaur,
butterfly, poodle, flower, sword, star,
numbers, letters of the alphabet, and
crown among others.
Br. Manny Hilado FSC is currently
the Vice- President for Administrative
Services of De La Salle Antipolo and
at the same time the Director of the
Brothers' Community. He has a deep
passion for entertaining young
Lasallians who are in their primary
years. He finds joy when he is able to
make children happy as he shares his
expertise in balloon twisting.
He has been traveling
to different La Salle
schools for a number
of years now to
share his talents and
touch the hearts of
many children
through his humble
way. He also made
a promise that he
would come back
to facilitate the
training for PLC
6
teachers so they can use the balloon
twisting skills as tools in teaching their
subjects.
This effort was made possible by
the initiation of the Vocation Office
headed by Br. Ritchie Yap FSC in
coordination with the Students
Services and PLC Offices. Since the
activity happened during the first day
of school when most parents are with
the kids, the event was a hit not only
among the kids but also with the
parents. They were very touched to
see a Brother welcoming the new
pupils in school.
Chancellor Juan P. Lozano, together with Linkages
& International Relations Director Arnold Capuloy,
Sports & Culture Director Morris Lingao, and Arts
Coordinator Rogger Basco, attended the SMART Click
Opening Ceremony last week. The opening was held
last week at the building right across the Hall of
Lasallian Saints.
Mr. Arnold Capuloy notes that the venue was not
your typical building as it was a refurbished 40-footer
container van with the amenities and comfort of a
typical internet cafe.
Chancellor Lozano was invited as guest speaker
for the said ceremony. In his speech, he mentioned his
appreciation for the use technology in education.
Initially, he also expressed his worries about
misguided students who use the internet for their disadvantage.
The opening ceremony was also participated in by the SMART company executives.
Hilarians Receive US$4000 Donation
by: Mr. Rey Villegas
Through the initiative of Mr. Orly Mayor, a member of DLSL Class '64, an anonymous donation of
US$4,000.00 was given as scholarship grant for the benefit of the Br. Stephen Rabisa FSC Gift of
Education scholars in the St. Br. Jaime Hilario Learning Community for their continuing tertiary education at
DLSL. The said anonymous donation was given by Mr. Mayor's friend.
The donation was coursed
through Mr. Lito Abad (also a
member of DLSL Class '64). Mr.
Abad, together with Mr. Raul

IBM MOA Signing

IBM Solutions Delivery, Inc.,
through its Human Resources & Staff
Services Division, went to De La Salle
Lipa on June 13, 2007 to conduct the
examination and pre-screening
interview of DLSL CompSci graduates
to support the former's growing
demand for computer programmers.
This activity was made possible in
coordination with CITE Dean, Alfredo
Reodica.

Memorandum of Agreement wherein

Linkages & International Relations
Director, Arnold Capuloy to sign the
MOA in behalf of DLSL. Another MOA
signing will be held soon to be
represented by the two institution's
CEO's for a stronger linkage that will
include faculty and student training, job
placement, and subject expert
exchange.
The whole day activity was
LICA Launches “Chef’s Table
Last June 22, the Lipa Institute for Culinary Arts launched its fine dining service, the "Chef's Table" at
Chez Avenir. "Les tables des chefs cuisine'ers" is part of the LICA curriculum.
Beginning June 25 until July 24, eight students from the
pioneer batch of LICA will be serving a set meal available to
all Lasallians and even to outsiders.
Below is the menu which the LICA students will be
offering at the “Chef's Table”:
Ni?oise is considered one of the best known salads in
France (where it originated). It has lettuce, tomatoes, green
beans, eggs, anchovies, and olives served with LICA's own
Chef's vinaigrette. Another selection for the entrees is the
Chef's Green Salad which is simple yet very nutritious. The
salad has healing properties as well, having medicinal herbs
as part of the ingredients.
For the "Les Plats," Crevettes, Poissons, Viandes, and
Boeuf ala Bourguiguonue will be served. "Crevettes" is
actually spicy gambas in lemon sauce. Served with jasmine
rice, it is a complete meal that conjures the combined taste
of the Mediterranean and Asian cuisines. "Poissons," on the
other hand, is baked mahi-mahi or yellow-fin tuna served
over vegetable pasta. Grated parmesan cheese rounds off
the layer of tastes that the dish presents. It is a
Proven?al/Italian favorite. "Viandes" or LICA's Chicken
Cordon Bleu is a classic. They did away, however, with the

traditional ham and used slices of chorizo instead, serving
the dish with linguini and pimiento for a taste of the
Marseilles. "Boeuf ala Bourguiguonue" is beef stew,
burgundy style. In keeping with the traditional method of
cooking the meal, the beef is marinated for hours in red
wine from Burgundy, flavored by a Bouquet Garni and bits of
pork ham.
For the soups, the Vegetable Soup au Pesto and the
Chicken soup are varieties which soup-lovers may choose
from. The vegetable soup is French in every way because of
the pesto. And yet, it is also Italian for the soup is actually a
Proven?al concoction. The chicken soup is clear (with a fatdiscarded recipe) and it the flavor of the chicken comes alive
with finely sliced vegetables which thereby adds color and
tastes.
For desserts, Fruit Tart and Fresh Fruits avec Glace are
selections which promise the ultimate sweetness fix.
Bread is also served, fresh from the oven. Wine is
available to adults, but limited only to one glass per order.
It truly is a "taste of fine dining, a touch of class."
