Michigan is home to more than 15,000 manufacturing companies, the leaders
of which are dedicated, not only to making world-class products, but to improving
the quality of life in our communities. Michigan’s strength is built, in large
part, through manufacturers’ contributions, including job creation, workforce
development, education improvement and support for charitable and cultural

About the John G. Thodis Michigan
Manufacturer of the Year Award
Sponsor
The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) has
represented the needs of Michigan manufacturers since
1902. As the state’s leading advocate for the manufacturing
industry, MMA works to promote and maintain a business
environment that allows manufacturers to compete and grow.
Why Nominate
The John G. Thodis Michigan Manufacturer of the Year
Award serves to focus public attention on the important,
positive and tangible contributions individual manufacturers
make to their employees, customers and communities.
Past recipients have been the subject of well-deserved
press coverage statewide and in their communities, and
have used their Award status to promote their company
and its successes. Many recipients choose to use the
honor as an opportunity to boost employee morale by
showing appreciation to their associates for their part in
earning the recognition.
Eligibility
Anyone, except MMA staff, may nominate an individual
employed in Michigan’s manufacturing industry. (Nominees
for the Special Achievement Award need not be currently
employed in the manufacturing industry.) Self-nominations
are encouraged.
Awards
Overall Awards and up to two Finalist honors may
be given in the following categories:
„„ Large Tier, encompassing manufacturing leaders
of companies with more than 200 employees.
„„ Small Tier, encompassing manufacturing leaders
of companies with fewer than 200 employees.
Judges may also bestow Special Achievement Awards to
recognize leaders who clearly deserve recognition, but
whose exemplary achievements may not fit within the
general criteria areas. (For example, an individual who is
retired from manufacturing but who has made an impact
in industry over his/her career or a leader in a support
industry who has made a significant contribution to the
improvement of Michigan manufacturing.)
Selection Process
A panel of distinguished judges, representing corporations,
universities, professional organizations, associations
and other groups serving manufacturers, will select the
recipients. The committee will base its decisions primarily
on the materials supplied by nominators. Failure to
complete the nomination form properly or submitting
inaccurate information may be cause for disqualification.
Criteria
The MMA will coordinate the judging based on five
criteria listed and weighted on the nomination form.
The judges will determine recipients based on the content
and quality of the completed nomination forms. The
submission of additional information about the nominee
and the company, such as letters of recommendation/
commendation, testimonials, press articles and company
brochures, is highly encouraged.
Awards Presentation
The 2016 Michigan Manufacturer of the Year, Finalist and
Special Achievement Award recipients will be honored at
the prestigious Manufacturing Forum.
Acknowledgment of the award recipients will be made
to statewide media and posted on the MMA website
(www.mimfg.org). The winners will be featured in an
issue of MiMfg Magazine — distributed to more than
6,000 subscribers — and will have their names engraved
on the award display in MMA’s headquarters lobby.
Recipients will also have the opportunity to use the
award logo on their company’s literature, advertising
and websites.
