WCT Special Funds
The WCT Tuition Assistance Fund was established to help
fulfill the WCT mission to be a cultural and educational resource for
the community by providing opportunities for all children to appreciate
and participate in the performing arts, regardless of ability to pay. WCT
tuition assistance allows all interested students and families the chance
to become involved with our diverse and inclusive theatre programming.

The WCT Visionary Fund was established in celebration of
WCT’s 25th birthday to build a financial reserve and to help secure a
bright future for the next 25 years and beyond! Numerous contributions,
including a matching grant, have given us a strong start toward our initial
fundraising goal of $50,000. For more specific information on this fund,
you may contact Alison Roberts at alison-roberts@comcast.net.

The Cindy Waldron Cannon Fund was established after Cindy,
a WCT parent and volunteer, passed away in April 2002, to honor her
for the extraordinary person she was and for her many contributions to
WCT. As she loved both the theatre and education, the fund is for two
purposes. The first is to support special initiatives and theatre-related
projects. The second is an annual scholarship in her name awarded to a
graduating Watertown High School senior who has participated in WCT
and has shown extraordinary commitment to the performing arts at the
high school. The 2010 CWC Fund scholarship recipient was Clara Gibbons.

The Dinah Lane Theatre Arts Fund was established on the
occasion of WCT’s 20th Anniversary Celebration in 2004, to honor
WCT Founder and Artistic Director, Dinah Lane. The mission of the
fund is to sponsor theatre arts events and performances FREE to all.
Programs such as master classes, artists-in-residence, technical theatre
activities, and special performances to supplement core programming of
WCT are supported by this fund.
To make a tax-deductible contribution to any of the funds,
please send a check indicating your intention to:

Director’s Message
W
elcome to WCT’s premiere production of Singin’ in the Rain! A
musical as grand as this one could not happen without the support of
countless volunteers, the dedication of the staff, and the talent & hard work
of the cast. Many thanks to you all!
Singin’ in the Rain is one of the most beloved movie musicals of all time. The
film was produced in 1952 (when technicolor was all the rage) and brings
us into the world of making movies in 1927, the year that the Silent Film
Era in Hollywood was replaced by “the talking picture.” The story follows
silent film stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont as they navigate their way
through the transition from silent films to “talkies.” Lina’s grating voice and
negative attitude make the transition harder for her, but Don (with the help
of his hilarious best friend Cosmo and a talented chorus girl named Kathy)
finds a way to maintain his Hollywood stardom.
Through rehearsals, the cast discovered what it takes to put on a theatre
production. As their characters, the actors learned what goes into making a
film! Some of our actors were part of making four real film clips that you will
see at this performance. While filming at the Commander’s Mansion with
Dave and Nick from WCATV, they experienced hitting their mark, camera
angles, and working quickly so as not to lose sunlight. Onstage, the crew
members explored the many jobs there are on a film crew. The stars captured
the glitz and glamour of Hollywood pre-Depression era. The fans embodied
the timeless fascination with stardom. The “Fit as a Fiddle” dancers were
taught a completely new skill: tap dancing! Every actor found their place as
part of the “machine” that made 1927 the Golden Age of Hollywood.
To quote Miss Lina Lamont: “If we bring a little joy into your humdrum
lives, it makes us feel as though our hard work ain’t been in vain for nothin’.
Bless you all.” Please, Enjoy the Show!
