BOARD:
Our Town Tomorrow recently received a grant from the Taum
Sauk Fund to purchase a caboose, which will be placed at the
Whistle Junction train station. Carol Kelsheimer, President and
Judy Schaaf-Wheeler, Secretary of OTT, traveled to Bay City,
Michigan to inspect this caboose and made arrangements to purchase it.
The Huron Eastern Railway Caboose #650 was originally built for
the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad. It has been completely
renovated on the inside with knotty pine paneling, a kitchen, bathroom and all new windows and solid wood doors.

as soon as the placement location is made ready and arrangements
for transporting it here have been completed.

This year’s Spring Mountain Music Festival
will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 21
and 22 on the grounds of the Iron County
Courthouse in Ironton. The festival will
feature not only two days of bluegrass,
country and gospel music, but also cloggers
and square dancing. In addition to the two
days of music, vendors and crafters will
have a wide variety of wares and food for
purchase, quilting and spinning booth, a
vintage photo booth, buggy rides, pony
style rides and a miniature train ride for
children. There will be an area set up for
pickers, so musicians are being encouraged
to bring their instruments.

are lucky you might get a glimpse of a beaver at work or the Great Blue Heron fishing.
The property is home to countless other birds, including wild turkey and the Bald Eagle, and
of course, the white tail deer. If the wildlife sees
you but you do not see it, you still will enjoy
your ride through the countryside and be able to
appreciate the beautiful wild flowers and fresh

Dennis McIntosh, President and CEO of Ozarks Federal Savings and Loan
was recognized by the national magazine Management Today. The magazine is published for all of North America, including Canada and Mexico. The
editors performed a national search to find a savings and loan that is following the

“OPERATION GROWTH START” SEEKS
TO ASSIST SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 25, 2011 – Operation
Growth Start is a new program to assist small businesses in
Southeast Missouri. Offered by the Douglas C. Greene
Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at
Southeast Missouri University, Operation Growth Start
will use five Community Advocates scattered throughout
the region to expand its outreach capabilities as well as two
business counselors based in Cape Girardeau who will be
making appointments throughout the University’s 24county service region.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is funding this
innovative new program that will provide business
counseling and resource coaching to individuals who are
interested in growing their small businesses, but need some
help. CIE Business Counselor Justin Pobst says, “Small
business owners should give us a call if they would like to
have a business counselor’s help with working through
some barriers to growing their companies. We would like
to see dozens of businesses work through problems and
become stronger and employ more people because of the
Operation Growth Start initiative.”
