All of our programs follow the principals of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) as described by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as well as The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Our new resources this year include Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson’s Speech Clarity Evaluation for Therapy Planning video series. This exciting series includes 11 clients with varying diagnoses and ages. Each video includes 2 full sessions with Sara completing an initial Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) evaluation with the client and then conducting a follow-up evaluation with a program plan update four months later. Our live-course schedule has also continued to increase this past year and has included courses in over 25 states and 14 countries! We look forward to improving this even more in 2016. If you are interested in hosting a course, please reach out as we would love to talk. A special congratulation to the 15 therapists that completed our advanced training courses this year. Finally, thank you for your continued support of our work here at TalkTools. Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson has created a program and book using tactile interventions to improve a) oral preparatory phase feeding skills and b) speech clarity in teens, young adults and the geriatric population. Activities address improving chewing, bolus formation and positioning for transport, and speech clarity. These techniques are valuable when addressing many diagnoses: dysarthria, apraxia, Parkinson’s disease, Down syndrome, TBI and Cerebral Palsy as well as voice disorders, post oral cancer surgery, and post CVA. Included in this book are step-by-step instructions for the “why” and “how”, Initial Program Plans and numerous case studies. These new video courses each include an initial Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) evaluation with a program plan and a four month follow-up evaluation with a program plan update conducted by TalkTools’ founder, Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson, MS, CCC-SLP. Each video also contains an interview with the referring SLP (and OT when applicable) and the parent of the client. The clients included in this series vary in age and diagnosis. Over the years, I have found that parents can become great assets to their child’s speech language pathologist, once they understand why they are being asked to perform certain homework assignments with their child. The exercises shown in this video are presented in a hierarchy of very small steps which will ensure that your child will not only make progress but will have fun doing so. This video is designed to not only show you what you can do to help your child, but also explains to you why you are being asked to use specific straws, horns or bite-tubes. In addition, watching this video will give you the knowledge you need to become a better advocate for your child, whether they receive speech therapy through the public school, early intervention program, clinic, hospital or private practice. Knowledge is a very powerful tool.” What Can I Do to Improve My Child’s Feeding Skills and Speech Clarity? You are invited to join the conversation on our BLOG at blog.talktools.com, where you can “Ask a Therapist” to learn more about therapy techniques as well as read about success stories.
