The Saskatoon Preschool Foundation 3144 Arlington Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L5 (306) 683-8384 www.spf.sk.ca Printed by: Pro Print Inc. & zu.com communications Guiding Principles: A Message to Our Community Acting in the best interests of children. Support for families. Respect for the values and cultures of families. Appropriate input from children. Appropriate involvement of children. The year 2003 marks the tenth year since its organization that the Saskatoon Preschool Foundation has worked toward helping children in this community! We are proud of that. Vision Statement: We see all preschool children having opportunities for a better future and becoming successful participants in society. We see quality preschool programs diminishing the impact of poverty on children and families and on our community. As a result of increased parent participation in preschool programs, we see greater support for children’s education. We see preschool programs expanding as needs are identified and as finances become available. Highlights in 2003 include a significant increase in the number of families who applied for preschool tuition subsidy assistance. As a result, children from approximately 100 families were able to attend preschool. The cost of this totaled more than $32,000. Mission Statement: To advocate for and support access to quality preschool programs for Saskatoon children. Thanks to your donations, this expense was covered! Issues to be overcome include greater promotion of the Foundation so that more people are aware of our programs. As well, more attention to importance of preschool is required. The Foundation is important to the Saskatoon community. Likewise, the many donors and partners listed later in this report are important to the Foundation! Rita Priestley President Les Ferguson Executive Director ABC Club Schools and any other groups are invited to make donations to the ABC or "A Better Chance Club." Rita Priestley, President Planned Gifts The Planned Giving Committee encourages the public to consider the tax advantages of donating a significant gift to the Foundation. Ron Hirsch, Chairperson Programming Support and Advocacy The Programming Support and Advocacy Committee was established to keep abreast of the needs of preschool children in the city. Brian and Loretta Hartsook were invited to attend the December meeting of the Board to provide an update on current results of the national research project, Understanding the Early Years, undertaken in thirteen communities in Canada. Brian and Loretta reviewed the research process and highlighted findings for the Saskatoon component of the research. The Executive Director, President, and Vice President met with the Directors of each of the School Divisions to highlight the work of the Saskatoon Preschool Foundation and to discuss ways that the Foundation could be responsive to the needs of families with preschool children in Saskatoon. Rita Priestley, Chairperson Public Relations The Public Relations Committee members work to promote the Saskatoon Preschool Foundation at its major fund raising events. The committee including Mona Etcheverry, Shirley Green, Anne Maduke, Craig Peterson, Shirley Spence, and Les Ferguson work with the local media to make our events so successful. We appreciate the support given to us by the Star Phoenix and the local radio and television stations.
