Just a Note from the Potentate
Well another month has passed and the fun just keeps on
coming. October was a very busy month with the State Fair
of Texas, a Cruise and a Halloween Party. Thanks to all who
participated in these events to make them a success.
A big thanks goes out to Ken Dillingham and the Staffers
for the work they do at the Great State Fair of Texas. This is a
huge commitment of time and talent to pull this off. 24 straight
days of parades is a back breaker, but they always seem to get
it done. And if you haven’t heard the band lately, you should.
They sound pretty darn good. Also thanks to all the Hella Nobles and Ladies who work the Parade Committee.
You all give a positive face to our Temple through your time and efforts.
Now, some of you might have attended the Supreme Queen’s visit to Shalman #90. If you did, you got to
see your 2nd Ceremonial Master, Darrell Hefley, and Potentate make an attempt to entertain the folks who were
there. As always, our Queen, Her Majesty Carol Hefley, and her ladies did a great job hosting this event. Thanks
to all the ladies of the Nile for your support to this great Temple.
Then before the fair was over, many of us headed for Galveston for the Cruise. I think everyone had a
great time. That’s all I’m gonna say because what happens on the Cruise, stays on the Cruise. We did have 43
staterooms full of Shriners and Ladies. You can only imagine what that was like. I can tell you it was pure heaven.
Wish more of you could have been there.
After the cruise, we had a Noble’s Golf Tournament at Buffalo Creek. I can tell you that I had a great time.
But what I was doing most likely wasn’t considered golf. Thanks to Kerry Davis and the Agente group for making
this happen. Maybe we will do it again next year.
Just a couple of notes about November. Membership is the word of the day. We need all of you to take a
bit of time and help us grow. Bring in a member for the ceremonial on November 21st. Another case where your
Temple needs your help in finding new members. We will also be celebrating another Military Appreciation night
at the November Stated Meeting on the 19th. I promise this is one you don’t want to miss.
Finally, as the year comes to an end, Janie and I are feeling especially blessed to have so many great
friends here at Hella. Without you and your help, none of this would be possible. Many thanks from both of us.
Yours in the Faith,
Bobby and Janie

HELLA SHRINE FLYING FEZZES
TO ALL NOBLES INTERESTED IN FLYING OR AVIATION
Parade season has hit high altitudes for the Flying Fezzes as we participated in the Opening State
Fair Parade, Cedar Hill’s Country Day on the Hill
Parade and the Family Day at the TMRC Parade.
Originally formed in 1976 to assist in transporting
burned and crippled children to the Shrine Hospitals, the Flying Fezzes now assist in raising money
for the transportation fund and help bring awareness for the hospitals through active participation
in parades. Look for us with our flight worthy
plane float in the upcoming holiday parades. Please
look on our unit page at Hellashriners.org for more
information and updates about our activities. All
Nobles are invited to join us at all parades and ride
on the float or in the pull vehicle. Comprised of
pilots and those interested in flying or aviation, an
open invitation is extended to all who join us to
complete our mission.
Our October meeting was productive at the Taxiway Café located within Lancaster Airport. We
conducted our business and then adjourned until
we met again to participate in the Frisco Community Parade, Motor Kops for Kids at Hella and our
Fall Ceremonial.
Our November meeting will again be held at Hella
during the Fall Ceremonial on November 21. On
the agenda will be the plane float and winged fez
renovations, upcoming parade participation and a
possible future squadron flight to one of the Shriner Hospitals.

“Shriner’s Military Appreciation Night”
Honoring the Men and Women presently serving in the Police and
Fire/Rescue Departments, the Armed Forces of the United States,
the Veterans who have served in the past, and especially those who
have given the ultimate sacrifice, “Their Lives,” in the protection of
the Freedoms and Rights given to all of the Citizens of this Great
Country that we have the privilege of living in today.
This will be our opportunity to say “THANK YOU” to the Men and Women who
have volunteered to wear a Uniform of the Armed Forces or to serve our communities
as Police or Fire/Rescue!
Illustrious Sir Don Young has asked all members, past and present, to wear their uniform, shirt, hat, or any other article of identification that will allow us “civvies” to
recognize your service!
Let’s show that Shriners are PROUD SUPPORTERS of those who keep us safe!
Guests and Family are WELCOME to attend.

Hella Shrine Circus Newsfront
It is already mid-November, and our 2016 Circus is
less than 2 & 1/2 months away.
• All should have received the circus kick-off letter
with your five exchange tickets. Many have already
replied with payment for your exchange tickets or a
donation.
• Remember that you need to advise us of the circus
performance date and time that you want. A follow-up
reminder will be sent to all Nobles in November. We
still have plenty of time to work through the details.
The final cut-off date is not until January 4th.
• A reminder of the excellent benefit to you or your
unit for selling business ads. Forty % of the add cost
goes right back to the seller. You can choose to keep
the money, or donate it to your unit or Lodge or back
to the Temple. This can add up fast. We count on our
business ads to cover the printing cost of the circus
program, and many units count on the 40% as a valuable unit fund raiser. As of this writing, very few ads
have been turned in, and we are in danger of not having
enough to cover the cost of printing. As an added incentive, the top ad seller will receive a bonus of $500.
The deadline for turning ad sales is December 7th.
• Program ads are also another way for units, clubs and
individuals to show your support for our circus and to
give back to your Temple. I would like to see all units
and clubs have an ad in the circus program, as well as
many individuals.
• We continue to look for ways to enhance your circus
experience. We have recently met with the 101s to see
how we can improve the food service to our volunteers. We have also had several discussions on better
ways to sell ride tickets.
Circus Performance Schedule - all at the Frisco
Dr. Pepper Arena:
• Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening, January
27, 28 and 29
• Saturday and Sunday, January 30 and 31, three performances each day.
• Exact times will be communicated at a later date,
but figure approximately the same times as the 2015
circus.

Richardson DeMolay
Members of the Richardson DeMolay Chapter attended
the annual State Master Councilor’s Conference held at the Masonic Temple in downtown Fort Worth on Saturday, September
26th. Richardson Chapter DeMolays who attended the Conference
include Romeo Alexander, James Eyre, Philip Eyre, Aidan King,
and Ethan Medley.
The State Master Councilor’s Conference is held in the
fall of each year to bring together DeMolays from various Chapters across the state to learn about topics that will help them to succeed in DeMolay, as well as in life. The State Master Councilor,
who leads the Conference, is the top officer of DeMolay in Texas,
elected for a one-year term. This year’s State Master Councilor
is Tony Peebler, a freshman Engineering student at Texas A&M
University.
This year’s Conference topics included Leadership 101,
Membership, 7 Keys to a Successful Chapter, Master Councilor
Term Planning, Activities and Event Planning, How to Put On a
District Conclave, and Know Your State Officers, among other
useful topics. The boys also engaged in such team-building and
fun activities as Air Pong, an Elephant March, a Pipe Pong Relay,
and Tennis Ball Transfer.
The Richardson DeMolay Chapter meets on Saturday
mornings, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, at the Richardson Masonic Lodge building located at 528 Lockwood Drive, Richardson,
Texas. Snacks are served, and visitors are welcome. In the meetings, DeMolay members engage in leadership training activities,
public speaking, and planning for upcoming social and athletic
events, as well as various electronic and table games, all under the
supervision of adult leaders. DeMolay members run their Chapters and set their own agendas.
The Richardson DeMolay Chapter is a member of DeMolay International, a worldwide organization for young men,
ages 12 to 21, that emphasizes leadership, public speaking, civic
responsibility, and traditional values. Famous American DeMolays have included John Wayne, Walt Disney, Walter Cronkite, astronaut Neil Armstrong, and many, many others. DeMolay members engage in a wide variety of fun and learning activities.
As an organization, DeMolay stresses 7 Cardinal Virtues:
Love of Family, Reverence for God, Courtesy, Fellowship, Fidelity, Cleanness, and Patriotism. The name “DeMolay” comes from
Jacques DeMolay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templars,
who gave up his life and was burned at the stake, rather than to
give up the secrets of his Order or the names of his fellow knights.
His courage and fidelity to his principles and his fellows serve as
an example for DeMolays everywhere.

Chapter, contact the Advisory Council Chairman, Dr. Lynn Little,

Hella Legion of Honor
The Legion of Honor has been very busy this year so
far. We have been in several parades, a funeral, two
Circuses, Posting the Colors at Hella Stated Meetings
and a Flag Retirement Ceremony. We are not done yet,
as the year is not over.
Rex and Janice Walthers
Color Guard at the Denison Parade left to right, Charles
Lee, Patrick Travers, Don Young and Marceleno Luna
In the coming last two months of this year, we will be
in several more parades and participate in the November Special Meeting, Honoring All Veterans. We will
be doing the Empty Table Ceremony and Posting the
Colors, as well as doing another Flag retirement Ceremony for the Hella Temple Flag at the November Hella
Stated Meeting.
If you would like to join us and help us perform all
the aforementioned duties, we would like to have your
membership in the Legion of Honor.
The Legion of Honor was formed in 1980 for Nobles
who are, or previously have been active in the Armed
Forces of the United States and its allies and presently
has approximately thirty members.
The LOH Parade Jeep
Discussing Battle Plans at Denison Parade
The Legion of Honor Unit primary objectives are: To
foster a spirit of Patriotism, Love of Country, and Flag.
To perpetuate the memory of our Comrades-in-Arms
who made the Supreme Sacrifice by giving their lives
for our country while members of the Armed Forces.
To strive for an increase in friendship and cooperation
between the Legion of Honor and other units of Hella
Temple.
The Unit has the responsibility to present the Flags at
all Shrine Ceremonies and area Parades. The Parades
are really a lot of fun and the Unit has a Float for those
members who, for various reasons, cannot carry a Flag
or march. The Unit also has an active Drill Team which
competes at various events during the year.
So the Legion of Honor is the Unit within Hella Temple
that “Carry the Flags” for children with burns or orthopedic needs!”
The Legion of Honor would like to extend an invitation
for you to become a member of this Unit and for your
lady to become a member of the Legionettes.

Hella Membership
October 2015
The Numbers as of 10/1
• Creations - 50. Goal for year is 75.
• Restorations - 30. Goal for year is 49
• Affiliations - 8. Goal for year is 11
• Suspensions - Goal for year is less than 114. As of 10/1, we still have 261 Nobles who have still not paid their
dues for 2015.
Creations
• We still have a very good chance of achieving our goal of 75 for the year. Twenty at the November ceremonial
11/21, and five at the December short, 12/16 form would do it.
• A full ceremonial is scheduled for 11/21. We need to start now generating petitions for this ceremonial. It is going to be a big deal. All short form Nobles, and their Ladies, will be encouraged to attend also. Dinner and dancing
will follow the ceremonial.
Restorations
• Restorations have fallen below the rate needed to achieve our goal by year end. This effort is critical to us meeting our overall goals. Everyone knows at least one brother who has demitted or been suspended. Do your part.
Lodge Visitation and Ambassador Program
• The previously announced lodge visitation program to promote Shrine membership has started. Steve Lang,
John Krodel, Wayne Osborne, Jerry Barrera and Bob Moore are scheduled to make visits. Our goal is to visit at
least 20 Lodges by the end of the October, more if possible. We will be presenting a consistent message. If you
would like to be part of this effort, or would like to make the presentation at your lodge, please contact me soon.
First and Second Line Signer Incentive
• Don’t forget about the great incentives and rewards we have for Nobles who bring in new Nobles.
- Two 1st line and next year’s dues paid. If done in 1st year, Noble receives silver medallion in addition to dues
paid for next year. Member still pays for Hospital & per Capita of $35.00.
- 1st line signers entered twice and 2nd line entered once for each new Noble for Southwest Airlines $500 gift
card drawing (two, $500 gift cards), if we meet Illustrious Bobby’s goal of 87 creations.
Our priorities for the remainder of the year;
• Achieving our goals is more than possible with your help. Be a part of something special.
• Our short form process is very important. My target is seven in December.
• We need at least 20 candidates at the November Ceremonial. Start working now in your Blue Lodges and get
those petitions in. As of this writing we only have a few commitments.
Working together, we can achieve our membership goals for this year.
Fraternally, Bob Moore

Nile News From Queen Carol Hefley
Ladies, what a great October we had! Texas Days was full of fun, laughter
and friends. I’m sure we will all laugh someday about climbing the stairs
at the Hilton in Ft. Worth! Thanks to the Shalman Dancers, Clownettes and
Pageantry for the Tributes they were all wonderful. The very generous donation you all made to the Daughters of the Nile foundation is absolutely my
favorite gift of all! Thanks so much.
Then the Supreme Queen’s visit! What can I say but the officers were magnificent, the Pageantry,
Clownettes and Dancers once again were awesome. But most of all we all just found a new best
friend in Supreme Queen Sharon K. St. John. What a wonderful, warm and gracious Lady. I know
we all want to keep her right here with us!
Supreme Queen Sharon will be visiting the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Shreveport, Houston and Galveston before the end of October. She will be presenting plaques that represent
$1,000,000 in donations to both Shreveport and Galveston Hospitals. Each of you are part of that
donation with all the hard work and donations you orchestrated. Be Proud of being a Daughter
of the Nile!
Shalman’s CRA Fundraiser (affectionately called the Queen’s Ball) is scheduled for November
14, please get your tickets soon from Princess Tirzah, Dawn Sanders. We are going to have another wonderful evening of fun, laughter and friends while making money for the Daughters of
the Nile Foundation. Come roll some dice, play a little black jack, bid on the silent auction and
bring a check! It’s all for our Shrine Children!
In Nile Love,
Carol Hefley

Department of Agriculture
Visits Galveston Hospital
Shriners Hospitals for Children - Galveston recently announced a partnership with the Texas
Department of Agriculture to help increase access to medical care in rural Texas communities. In
recognition of this partnership, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller recently visited with
hospital leadership and staff members on September 28 to discuss the collaborative effort to advance technology and other initiatives such as telemedicine.
“Texas is blessed to be home to this life-saving and life-changing hospital which is widely recognized as the finest pediatric burns hospital in the world,” Commissioner Miller said. “I am
so proud that Texas Department of Agriculture is working closely with Shriners Hospitals for
Children so that more Texans can benefit from the unique training and expertise of these worldrenowned health care professionals.”
By working with the Texas Department of Agriculture’s State Office of Rural Health, Shriners
Hospitals for Children - Galveston will be able to help increase access to patient care in rural
Texas. Innovative techniques such as telemedicine have been designed to treat critically burned
children in need of immediate medical care who do not live near a hospital.
“Partnerships and projects focused on telemedicine will help provide access to medical care and
save lives in rural Texas,” Commissioner Miller continued. “The dedicated health care professionals at the Galveston Shriners Hospital are extraordinary caregivers who perform miracles
each and every day. They not only save lives, they also improve them.”
Dr. David Herndon, Chairman of the Board of Governors David White, Texas Agriculture
Commissioner Sid Miller, and Hospital Administrator Mary Jaco visit during the Texas
Department of Agriculture’s visit on September 28.
