AUTOMNE - HIVER 2015- 2016 / AUTUMN - WINTER 2015- 2016
As I was searching through Catherine Andre’s Winter collection,
wandering in museums and art galleries, dreaming of travels, looking
for archives and new films, I found traces of A.D.Neel. I read her books
a long time ago.

En réfléchissant à mes envies et désirs pour la collection Hiver
Catherine André, en flânant de musées en galeries, de voyages en rêveries,
à l’affût de nouveaux films, d’archives, j’ai retrouvé les traces d’A.D.Néel.
Il y a longtemps, j’ai lu ses livres.
Cette femme extraordinaire m’inspire à nouveau et révèle mon désir
profond d’essentiel, d’authenticité et d’un retour aux sources
de mon aventure personnelle pour cette collection.
A.D.Néel est donc mon icône inspiratrice.
Voyageuse insatiable et lettrée, femme aux mille et une vies, hors de
son époque, elle fugue dès l’adolescence puis voyage "outre monde",
elle fuit les normes jusqu’à renouveler son passeport à l’âge de 100 ans !
Imagine… au début du XXème siècle, ce reporter en jupons, cette femme
singulière, d’une élégance d’esprit hors norme et insolite, traverse
les contrées avec ses malles ou son baluchon, ses carnets, son plumier,
son humour, son incorrigible témérité, quittant volontiers sa redingote
et ses bottines pour endosser la pèlerine des vagabonds tibétains et
marcher jusqu’au bout de sa vie et de ses rêves…
Aujourd’hui, je la vois, en exil dans une suite du Grand Hôtel Budapest,
penchée sur son écritoire, enveloppée dans des tenues aussi inattendues
que traditionnelles : caban de marin néerlandais ou tailleur écossais,
capote de l’armée russe ou manteau feutré mongol et jupe mille plis des
femmes Miao… tous ces vêtements qu’elle a collectionnés lors de
ses voyages d’Ouest en Est.
Quelle garde robe !
Telle est la femme que je célèbre pour l’hiver 2015, authentique, unique
et au clair avec elle-même. Elle vit avec son temps mais a toujours un
train d’avance.
C’est pour cela que je t’écris.
Elle me fait penser à toi…"
This extraordinary woman inspires me again and reveals to me my deep
longing for truth and authenticity and for returning to the centre of
my soul and my life adventure.
A.D.Neel is my inspiring icon.
She is a woman of words as well as being an insatiable explorer,
she is out of her time and must have lived a thousand lives.
From when she was a teenager till the end of her life, she has always
been pushing against the boundaries and always travelling to far
away places. She renewed her passport when she was 100 !
Imagine… the 19th century is just starting and this smart and
exceptionally witted female reporter is travelling around the world
with either her suitcases or her bundle, her notebooks, her pencil case,
her sense of humour, her incurable recklessness, taking off her riding
coat and her low boots to wear a tibetan hobo’s coat and always walk
further on towards the dreams of her life.
Now, I can see her, secluded in a suite at Grand Hotel Budapest,
leaning on her desk, dressed in unexpected traditionnal clothes like
a Dutch sailor jacket or tartan suit, a Russian military coat or felted
mongolian cape with Miao multi-pleated skirt… all these garments she
has collected from her worldwide trips.
What a wardrobe !
Here is the woman I want to honour for Winter 2015 : she is authentic,
unique and can look at herself clearly. She is living with her time
but always in advance.
That is why I am writing to you.
Because she reminds me of you…"
