“Make a joyful noise to
the LORD, all the earth!
Serve the LORD with
gladness! Come into his
presence with singing!
Know that the LORD, he
is God! It is he who
made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and
the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with
thanksgiving, and his
courts with praise! Give
thanks to him; bless his
name! For the LORD is
good; his steadfast love
endures forever, and his
faithfulness to all generations.”
Music plays an important role in our worship
today, and as we read in
this Psalm, our call is to
"make a joyful noise
with singing", all for the
purpose of offering
praise to our Lord. The
encouraging thing is that
this Psalm encourages
the "family," all ages to
worship Him. "His
steadfast love endures
forever and His faithfulness to all generations".
This year at Macland we
are embracing this one
theme of "One Family".
I once heard a wise man
say, concerning worship,
“In a multi generational
setting, our worship
should resemble the Sunday dinner table. Grandparents, parents, children
and grandchildren, all
together, interacting together and learning from
each other. All ages enjoying the meal, but
more important all are
receiving nourishment at
the table.” The Music
Ministry here at Macland
is working to embrace
this also as we seek to
create ministry opportunities for all generations.
*Celebration SingersThe newest area of ministry is designed for
Adults ages 55 and
above. We meet on
Wednesday afternoons at
4:30 pm in the choir
room. Our purpose is
centered on ministry in
our community. We will
work toward two ministry tours each year where
we will present concerts
in retirement centers,
assisted living facilities,
and nursing homes in our
community. Once a
quarter we will sing for
our family here at
Macland.
*Preschool and Children's Music – On August 10 we will launch
our music program for
children, which will
meet on Wednesdays
from 5:45 pm - 6:30 pm.
Our preschool children,
ages 3-5, will meet in the
nursery area, and our
children, grades 1-5, will
meet in the choir room.
In each of these areas
our children will learn
music and scripture.
Each group will sing
quarterly in our worship
services.
*Sanctuary
ChoirMeets each Wednesday
night from 7:30pm 8:45pm in the sanctuary
and is open to all adults
high school age and
above.
We are constantly looking for folks
to come join our ministry
team. Our main purpose
is leading our congregation in worship.
Throughout the year we
not only work on music
to lead our congregation
each Sunday, but also for
special events such as
Christmas, Easter, and
July 4th. In the Spring

we present "An Evening of
Praise,” a night of worship
through music.
*Worship Orchestra- An important part of our ministry team is
our orchestra. We meet each
Wednesday from 6:30 pm - 7:45
pm in the sanctuary. This group is
open to players high school age
and above.
*Special ensembles - Last year
we began a brand new ensemble,
"Singing Men of Macland". This
group is filled from men in our
sanctuary choir. We meet each
Sunday from 4:30pm - 5:30 pm.
This select group of men will lead
in worship throughout the year.
*Macland Ringers - This newest
group in our ministry, our hand
bell ensemble, is off and running.
It is exciting to open up new areas
of opportunities to praise our
Lord. We meet each Sunday from
4:15 pm - 5:15 pm in the choir
room. We have open spots still
available. If you would like to
join this team, please see Ms. Jan
Vansant.

has breath, Praise the Lord, Praise
the Lord!"

Make sure you are here for this
special day. Let's have a record

MINISTRY UPDATES
The children’s ministry has
completed a great summer of
ministry to our children and
children in our community. In
VBS children submerged
themselves in God’s Word.
They discovered that Jesus didn’t just see what is on the outside of people; He looked deep
down on the inside. Our primary verse was “Search me,
God, and know my heart; test
me and know my concerns.
See if there is any offensive
way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.” - Psalm 139:2324.
At Centri Kid Camp, a camp
for 3-6 graders, children studied the passage of Ephesians
6:10-20. They learned how the
armor of God is powerful and
real, although it is unseen.
Each day they focused on an
aspect of the armor of God.
Day 1: Unseen StrengthCampers learned where our
power comes from. Day 2: Unseen Truth- Campers looked at
the Bible as our source of
Truth. Day 3: Unseen PeaceAs we spread the Gospel, we
must remember to have peace
in all circumstances. Day 4:

Visible Faith- When our lives
are based in Truth, our actions
reflect our Faith. Day 5: Visible Boldness- Campers learned
that we can have Boldness
through Christ as we make His
message known.
Our final camp of the summer
was Winshape Camp. This
camp was held at Hillgrove
High School and had nearly
350 kids in attendance. Our
focus at camp was FOLLOW,
based on the Scripture verse,
"When Jesus spoke again to
the people, he said, “I am the
light of the world. Whoever
follows me will never walk in
darkness, but will have the
light of life." - John 8:12. Children learned the importance of
choosing the right direction in
life – following Jesus.
The support of Macland Baptist financially and through
volunteering time permitted
children to hear God’s Word in
a manner that they could understand and respond to. Those
who worked with the children
were able to witness children
grasping God’s Word through
Bible teaching and worship as
they discovered the love He
has for them. Many grew in
their faith while others took
steps towards God. In all three
ministries children made decisions for Christ. Thank you for
investing in the lives of the
next generation.
The start of the 2016-2017
AWANA year is just around the
corner. We are getting geared up
and excited to start another great
year.
Calling all Leaders, Student Leaders and those who might want to
become a Leader – we will have

Sunday, August 7th immediately
following the morning worship
service in the Fellowship Hall.
Please join us for a time of fellowship and a brief informational

MACLAND CELEBRATES
50 YEARS OF
MINISTRY
By Nancy Arrington
As a charter member I recall
the day the cornerstone in the
old sanctuary was sealed with a
time capsule inside. Knowing
very little about architecture, I
hoped that I would be around
to see how they would open it
without the building falling
down. Many other memories
come flooding through my
mind, especially of the men of
God who were sent to lead us.
Pastor Haskell White followed
Brother Johnny Foster mentioned in last month’s newsletter.
Pastor White led us through a
‘Together We Build’ program
with a vision set for the new
sanctuary that we occupy today. One Sunday he preached
about the walls of Jericho. He
felt inspired by God to lead us
in a march seven times around
the existing building followed
by the sound of a trumpet. Together we prayed that the walls
preventing the progress of our
growing church would be
brought down. In God’s time
those prayers were graciously
granted.
Pastor Dan Houston came to
Macland in 1993 and, under
his leadership, the new sanctuary was built. Not long after he
came, he preached a message
about John the Baptist and the
day that Christ came to John to
be baptized. He so
PAGE
eloquently described the scene of
Jesus’ approach to the place
where John was baptizing, that
when
he quoted “behold the
Lamb of God who takes away
the sins of the world”, it was all
I could do not to shout. Afterwards I wished I had. Brother
Dan retired in 1999, but that sermon is fresh in my mind today.
Then came the new millennium,
and God blessed us with another
young man, his wife and son, Dr.
Richard Walker, Karen and Josh.
What a preacher of the Word, a
leader, and a singer too! How
very blessed we are to have him
head our church. With sixteen
years of service, he holds the record length of time for pastoring
our church. To me personally he
has been a source of great
strength in the most difficult
losses of my life. It occurred to
me as I researched the history for
these articles that in the 70’s Pastor Johnny Foster looked like
Elvis with his longer hair and
sideburns, and in the 2000’s
Pastor Walker sings like Elvis.
They’ve both been known to do
an impersonation from time to
time, proving that God’s children
have more fun than anybody.
I hope that these newsletter articles have been beneficial to
those who have joined our
church family in more recent
years, and have reminded us all
how miraculously God still provides. He directed Moses to have
the children of Israel pass down
the miracles of their exodus from
Egypt through succeeding generations. Perhaps I’m the one
who benefited the most from my
6
research. It caused me to question
just how much of me to question
jwhat God has done for me here at
Macland I have not passed on to my
children.
Remembering our beginning and
looking forward to what God has in
store, brings to mind an old hymn
“We’ll work til Jesus comes, then
we’ll be gathered home”.
In His love,
Nancy Arrington

Macland Baptist Church is a family oriented, Bible believing, Bible
preaching Southern Baptist Church. We are traditional in worship
style. We offer a morning worship service at 10:30 am on Sundays,
Sunday and Wednesday evening services, and strong Sunday
School and AWANA programs. We also provide GA’s, Mission
Friends, Teamkid, and WMU to help provide missions education
and training for our children. We have weekday and weeknight ladies Bible studies and a growing number of specialized classes for
adults on Wednesday evenings in addition to our prayer service.
We offer a special midweek student worship and Bible study. We
have an active children’s program and age graded nurseries. Our
goal in providing these programs and opportunities is to train and
equip the body of Christ to do the work of the ministry and to reach
a lost world for Christ.
Our music is a mix of traditional hymns, Southern Gospel favorites, and contemporary specials. The preaching is from the New
King James Bible in expository style. We are evangelistic in our
approach and are missions minded.
