They joined with their College colleagues to provide an extravaganza of song, music and dance. I was amazed at the standard of performance from all of the participants. Rescheduled Sports Days (Y4-6) Congratulations to Hillary of Grade 5 for winning FIRST PLACE in my Handsome Horse Competition! I just wanted to drop you a quick line to thank you for once again supporting my latest writing competition for primary school children. The contestants were asked to write a poem about a Handsome Horse – and there were some really fantastic entries! There were a total of 105 entries from 17 schools in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, Australia and the United Kingdom, which included some excellent acrostics, haikus, diamond poems, limericks, free verse and good attempts at rhyming couplets. I’m thrilled to advise that Hillary of Grade 5 won FIRST PLACE in the Year 4 to 6 category, against a stiff field of 68 entries from around the world, in which many of the students were considerably older than her. Hillary richly deserves her first place in this competition. She has been entering my competition regularly for several years now, winning 3rd place in my Jade Dragon Story, and Runner Up in both the Autumn Haiku and Christmas Poem competitions last year. Each time, I have watched her writing develop, until her current entry, which really is quite special. Please do give her a special mention at school, and let her teacher know! I do hope to see more of Flat 3A, Block 2, Victoria Gardens 301 Victoria Road Pok Fu Lam Hong Kong sarah@auspicioustimes.com them that I’ll be posting details of my next Clever Competition soon for those who’d like a fun writing challenge in the coming term! And please tell Best wishes, Sarah Brennan Author/Publisher Sarah Brennan Little Black Colt by Hillary Light footsteps slowly pad round the field, Dawn falls on the bright moonlight, Small hooves clink against the grassy floor, As the wind gently nuzzles his ear, Fears seep, exude through his thin body, He soars below the yellow sky, The beam on his dappled face is wry, Gapes, glances and gazes join, When he vaporizes in the glimmering apple of my eye. Don’t forget, Sarah Brennan is visiting SJS in Term 3 Sarah Brennan M.A.D. really did make a difference as the sentiment expressed by the elderly people was, “We feel young again!’ Students from Year 4, 5 and 6 performed 2 dances, sang songs and gave out gifts. It was a wonderful experience for everyone. MAD Dance Hockey On Thursday March 20th 2014, we went to the hockey tournament. We were all very excited! Elyesha: It was fun that we had a big chance to compete in the hockey tournament because we had a chance to improve our skills and play matches with other people. What I really liked about the tournament was that I had a chance to play goalie and Mr. Haworth said I did a good job! At the final round with German Swiss, I was able to block most of their shoots. After all, I think that Megan did a really good job. When the final matched was over, I was running back with my goalie kit on, I tripped and everybody laughed including me! I hope that next year I can join the hockey team in Sha Tin College.
