What is Holy Hour, Eucharistic Adoration? (V)
(Simple Practices for a Renewed Eucharistic Spirituality)
Beloved brothers and sisters, as we continue our spiritual
journey and faith proceedings on the meaning of Eucharistic adoration, it is
pertinent to explore the necessary connection between what we believe –
the real presence of Jesus in the Sacrament of his body and blood and what
we celebrate- the feast of the Lord-the Holy Mass. In
reality, what we believe
(Lex Creendi) leads to what we celebrate (Lex Celebrandi),
and what we celebrate makes what we believe more
palpable and more enriching. Thus, there is a connection
between the Holy Mass and Eucharistic Adoration.
At Mass, Jesus gives us a
gift, not of silver or gold, not of cattle and bulls, he does not
offer us a gift that has a date of expiration, a gift that is
subject to change or that which appeals to the post modern
values of quick service and wait and take mentality. Jesus
offers us a gift of Himself. He gives us His body and blood
under the appearances of bread and wine. As we receive the
Eucharist, we are filled with grace, our sins are forgiven,
our lives are transformed, we become like him whom we
receive and in return, an attitude of thanksgiving is joyfully expressed.
While the Holy Mass remains a beautiful context to receive the
gift of Jesus himself, the Holy Hour or Eucharistic adoration offers us an
opportunity to give thanks. It is a moment to say: Thank You Jesus, thank
you my Lord (as Fr. Regi would always invite us to say after Holy
Communion). It is a time to proclaim with the Apostle Thomas in
acknowledgement of who Jesus is: “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28).
The Eucharistic adoration offers all believers the
opportunity to practice the spirituality of one of the ten lepers in Luke’s
Gospel
(Lk 17: 11-17), who, when healed and made whole, decided to come back
to Jesus and with all his heart and mind, gave thanks. The Scripture said,
“He knelt down and worshipped Jesus” (Luke 17: 16). Worship
(adoration) is a seminal way to give thanks. In giving thanks, we renew our
commitment to follow the Blessed Lord.
True gratitude to God instantly puts us in a place of
realizing we are dependent on God and His mercy. Whatever I have just
received-whether it is a cup of coffee, a borrowed pen, an invitation to dine
at
El Pollo Loco, or the deepest desire of my heart reveals that someone
beyond myself has just positively impacted me and made my life better. In
these acts of charity, I remain grateful to the individual by saying “Thank
you.” Also, this gesture of gratitude enables me to find a place to say:
“Thank you Jesus, thank you my Lord” as St. Ignatius instructed that we
need to find God in all things.
This Ignatian mantra “Finding God in all things” reveals
that Jesus accompanies us even when we are heartbroken or scared. And
when it seems that there is no way out from our existential troubles and
mishaps, we can still reach for sincere gratitude and experience God’s love
and graciousness in our lives. When we “sit in gratitude” during Holy
Hour of Eucharistic adoration, we taste a cup of relief and the words of
Jesus in Matthew 11: 28 “Come to me all you who are over labored and
over burdened, and I will give you rest,” become a recipe that ushers a new
taste; a taste of hope and joy which is a gift from the Blessed Lord.
A Simple Practice For the Week
Beloved brothers and sisters, as we come to Mass this week
and in the subsequent weeks, let us prayerfully make the connection
between the Sunday or weekday Masses and our spirit-filled Thursday
Eucharistic adoration. If we indeed receive the gift of Jesus Himself (Holy
communion), it is therefore a wholesome spiritual exercise to come with
your parish family to give thanks to Jesus on Thursday 6:30 to 7:30pm. If
we stand in reverence to receive our Lord on Sundays, we ought to kneel
in adoration on Thursdays to say: “Thank you Jesus” or sing joyfully
“thank you for saving me, thank you my Lord, thank you for saving me,
thank you my Lord.” Practice true gratitude this week and your life will
never be the same.
Wishing you many blessings and a fulfilling Eucharistic Week,
Fr.Ben

¿Qué es la Hora Santa, Adoración Eucarística? (V)
percances existenciales, podemos acudir a mostrar sincera gratitud y
misma. Deseándoles muchas bendiciones y una Semana Eucarística
gratificante.
