Vlaag inbrake
in middedorp
‘n VLAAG inbrake het die afgelope ruk in Tzaneen se sakegebied
voorgekom. In een van voorvalle verlede Dinsdagaand is ‘n fietswinkel
onder andere beroof.
Twee minute is al wat dit gekos het om ongeveer R30 000 se skade
aan te rig.
“Ons was eintlik gelukkig,” sê Brendon Stoltz, eienaar van Grabba
Cycles, na daar verlede Dinsdag by sy winkel ingebreek is. Volgens
hom het die alarmstelsel wat vinnig afgegaan het, verhoed dat baie
meer skade aangerig is. Dit het die diewe vermoedelik afgeskrik en
hulle het laat spaander met twee fietse en vyf valhelms.
Die diewe het toegang gekry deur ‘n venster aan die kant van die
gebou wat hulle op ‘n manier oopgekry het. Die diefwering voor die
venster is “soos ‘n tandestokkie” gebreek.Wat vreemd is, is dat die
diefwering heeltemal weg is.
Die boewe het ‘n tuisgemaakte hak gebruik om kleiner items nader
te hark sonder om die alarm te aktiveer. Dit het egter nie gewerk
met die fietse nie en een van die inbrekers het vermoedelik deur die
venster geklim om hulle deur die venster aan te gee. In die proses is
‘n glasrak wat onder die venster gestaan het gebreek. Die beweging
is deur alarmstelsel se ogie opgetel en het die alarm laat afgaan. Die
boewe het toe met hul buit gevlug.
Volgens Stolz was Letaba Alarms en die polisie se reaksie puik.
Beide was binne minute op die toneel.
Die inbraak by Grabba Cycles was egter net een in ‘n reeks van
inbrake op dieselfde aand.
Konstabel Glenda Maimele, woordvoerder vir die Tzaneen
polisiekantoor het bevestig dat nog vyf inbrake verlede Dinsdagaand
plaasgevind het. Een besigheid en een huis is geteiken in nedersettings
suid van Bolobedu. In Medipark is twee gevalle van huisbraak
aangemeld en in Florapark nog een. Niemand is al in verband hiermee
gearresteer nie en ondersoeke duur voort.

Crime news in brief
Tzaneen: Police in Tzaneen
have arrested 111 people for
various criminal activities over
the past week.
Tzaneen police spokesperson,
Constable Glenda Maimele said
two people were arrested for
assault common, eight for assault
with intent to cause grievous
bodily harm, six for theft and
eight for shoplifting.
Two people were arrested for
housebreaking and theft, one
for possession of dagga, two for
malicious damage to property
and one for trespassing.
One person was arrested for
contravening the protection
order, 12 for prostitution, one for
rape and two for public drinking.
Five people were arrested for
reckless and negligent driving,
one for contravening the Liquor
Act, five for drunken driving and
54 for contravening the Road
Traffic Act.
Ritavi: Police in Ritavi have
arrested a total of 55 people for
various criminal activities during
the past week.
According to Ritavi police
spokesperson,
Constable
Vongani Ngobeni, seven people
were arrested for contravening
the Road Traffic Act, 11 people
were arrested for contravening
the Liquor Act, four for assault
common and 11 for assault with
intend to cause grievous bodily
harm.
Three suspects were arrested
for rape, five for theft, one for
contravening a protection order
and three were arrested for
possession of dagga.
Four people were nabbed for
house breaking with intent to
steal and theft, two were arrested
for car hi-jacking, two for reckless
and negligent driving and another
two were arrested for malicious
damage to property.

It’s cooking in
Haenertsburg
DURING the weekend of May
3 & 4 the quaint Village of
Haenertsburg comes alive with
the sounds of chopping, sizzling
and clattering of pans and the
tempting aromas of good food as
professional and amateur chefs
gather in the Village Hall to test
their skills in the popular cooking
competition.
Now in its fourth year the
competition has grown and the
organisers added a third exciting
new category – outdoor cooking!
Judging is done by independent
food fundis who will have a
tough time in choosing a winner.
An essential ingredient in all
the dishes will be the delicious
kiwifruit. The public is invited to
watch these masters at work and
to cheer on their favorite team. All
three competitions will be held at
the Village Hall on Saturday and
Sunday from 11:00 – 14:30
This is truly the festival for
foodies. Four wine estates,
including Zandvliet, Boschendal
and Welgemeend Wine Estates
will be offering their wines
for tasting. A live cooking
demonstration and wine talk
in the Village Hall with a step
for step explanation of some
unusual and exciting recipes you
always wanted to know. Deep
South USA Louisiana Cajun,
exotic Indonesian and delicate
and trendy brunch dishes will
be demonstrated, shared with
a suitable wine and tasted in
3 separate cooking sessions
throughout the day. Cape Wine
Master Junel Vermeulen from
Zandvliet Wines will be leading
the wine talk.
The popular Craft Beer tent
will be offering four craft beers,
including brews such as Jack
Black Lager and Darling Brew
Slow Beer, for tasting and for sale
and one of our local brews, Iron
Crown Brew, will be participating
as well.
At the Country Market you can
stock up on all the interesting
little gifts and goodies you don’t
actually need, but want. Organic
cheeses,
preserves,
pickles,
delicious kebabs, hamburgers the homemade type! – Pancakes,
authentic Indian curries, sushi
and lots of other interesting and
tasty foods will be on sale. The
restaurants in Haenertsburg will
be spicing up their daily menus
with delicacies featuring the kiwi
fruit, so watch their blackboards!
And it is not all about eating,
drinking and cooking, farm tours
will give you an inside view on
the cultivating, picking and uses
of this mysterious little fruit.

SAVF-projek
DIE SAVF het ‘n nuwe projek nl ‘n Sakkie
vir ‘n Pakkie begin en vra die gemeenskap se
samewerking en ondersteuning.
Daar is ongelooflike groot nood in die
gemeenskap en die SAVF voorsien sowat 70
gesinne van die nodigste lewensmiddele.
Hulle pak dus 70 pakkies per maand en
deur die m and kom daar nog versoeke vir ‘n
kospakkie.
Die doel van die projek is om gesinne in
nood elke maand met ‘n kospakkie te kan
voorsien.
Daar word 70 persone benodig wat elke
maand bereid is om so ‘n kospakkie aan te
koop teen ongeveer R270.
Twee vriendinne kan dit saam doen indien
hul dit so wil hanteer.
Die SAVF voorsien die sak met ‘n lysie van
die spesifieke benodighede wat benodig word,
wat dan voor die 15de van die maand by die
SAVF kantoor te Agathastraat no 1 ingehandig
moet word.
Indien die persoon later wil ophou kan hy/
sy die SAVF net laat weet of iemand anders in
sy plek kry om voort te gaan.
Dit is egter baie belangrik dat die sak elke
maand moet terug kom anders is daar nie vir
almal ‘n kospakkie nie.
Sodra die persoon sy pakkie inhandig, gee
die SAVF weer ‘n sakkie vir die volgende
maand se kos.
Ondersteun die projek en maak ‘n verskil
aan diegene in nood.

Man in court for witchcraft
related killing
A 29 year-old man who allegedly hacked his
grandmother to death in a witchcraft related
attack appeared in the Giyani Magistrates’
Court last Wednesday.
Bongani Chauke of Mshiyani village is
accused of killing his grandmother, Miluva
Chauke (83) whom he blames for his mother,
Anna Chauke (52)’s death a week ago.
The woman died after a short illness and
was buried last week Saturday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Ronel Otto
said after the funeral, Chauke started
accusing his grandmother of causing her
mother’s death by bewitching her.
“He hacked her to death with an axe,” said
Otto.
Otto said he fled the scene after the
incident but he was arrested later. Chauke
was remanded in police custody pending
further investigations.
He was due to appear again at the time of
going to press.
Jetty 3 will be a voting station
AS with the previous elections, there will
be a voting station at Jetty 3 for the general
elections on May 7.
Confusion reigned during registration
weekends as voters were unsure of where
registration was taking place. In the past
the Lions Club’s clubhouse was used for
registration and voting.
After the clubhouse burnt down, multiple
locations were used for these purposes,
leading to uncertainty and confusion among
voters.
Due to this, the IEC has decided to erect a
tent on the grounds at Jetty 3 which will be
used as the voting station. Be sure to vote,
every one counts.

CALENDAR
Agricultural Expo
planned for Aug
AN AGRICULTURAL Expo will
be held in Tzaneen from August
26 to 28.
This was announced after a
meeting of a variety of role players
at the municipal chambers on
Tuesday.
The meeting was organized
jointly by Mokgadi Nkoana of the
Local Economic Development
Department of the Greater
Tzaneen
Municipality
and
Moshate Media, an events and
public relations company from
Gauteng.
The meeting was also attended
by Agri Letaba, the Tzaneen
Chamber of Commerce and
GTEDA
(Greater
Tzaneen
Economic Development Agency).
The meeting was chaired by
Kwena Maphoto, the CEO of
Gteda. The Agri Expo will be
held at the show grounds and
is primarily aimed at emerging
farmers.
A similar Agri Expo for
Limpopo was held at the
Polokwane show grounds last
year, but the organizers felt
Tzaneen was a better option in all
respects.
The Tzaneen show grounds
is a more suitable venue, there
are many more farmers in this
region and this area is a prime
agricultural region. In their
presentation Moshate Media
indicated that 2 000 emerging
farmers from all over Limpopo
will attend the event.
It will also consist of an
indoor expo, an outdoor expo,
workshops, an Agribizniz Summit
and an Agri Youth Indaba. Plans
for a gala dinner are also afoot.
According
to
Mahlatse
Masimini, the MD of Moshate
Media, event partners such as
the National and Provincial
Departments of Agriculture,
commercial banks and other
sponsors are already on board
and planning for the event is
already well under way.
The final stage was the approval
of the Tzaneen Municipality, who
will be a major partner, who
organized the meeting to get the
approval and support of other
role players before confirming
their commitment.
It was emphasized at the
meeting that the Limpopo Agri
Expo will not be in opposition to
the annual Letaba Show (which
will be held from August 7 to
9) but rather a complimentary
event.

ABOUT TAX PRACTITIONERS

PRACTITIONER OF LETABA ACCOUNTANTS
PROLONGED efforts to clean up an industry
where every Tom, Dick and Harry could
previously file Tax returns and offer Tax
Advice came to an end on 30 June 2013.
From 1 July 2013 Section 240 of the TAX
ADMINISTRATION ACT NO. 28 OF 2011
(TA Act) became law which deals with Tax
Practitioners. Only natural persons may act
as Tax Practitioners. National Treasury and
SARS said in motivation of the amendment
that they had long been concerned that Tax
Payers could be advised by a Tax Practitioner
without any qualifications or experience and
who is not governed by a Professional Code
of Conduct and that there are not enough
controls to ensure that Tax Payers receive
advice consistent with the tax legislation.
Every natural person who provides
advice to another person with respect to the
application of any Tax Act; or completes
or assists in completing a document to be
submitted to SARS by another person in
terms of any Tax Act, must register with
SARS as a Tax Practitioner, in such form as
the Commissioner may determine, within 30
days after the date on which that person for
the first time provides advice or completes or
assists in completing any such document.
The provisions of the previous paragraph
do not apply in respect of a person who
provides the advice or completes or assists
in completing a document solely for no
consideration to that person or his or her
employer or a connected person in relation to
that employer or that person.
In practice this means that if your external
accountant or external bookkeeper is not a
registered Tax Practitioner he cannot charge
you any fee to complete any Tax Return or
providing you with any Tax Advice.
Apart from registration with the South
African Revenue Service (SARS) as a Tax
Practitioner every Tax Practitioner must
also be registered with a RECOGNISED
CONTROLLING BODY.”
The changes aims to ensure that tax
practitioners possess certain minimum
qualifications and experience, regularly
update their knowledge base and that their
clients have recourse in cases where improper
advice was given. It is envisaged that this will
improve compliance with tax regulations and
general accuracy.
A senior SARS official may lodge a complaint
with a Controlling Body if a Registered Tax
Practitioner or person who carries on a
profession governed by the Controlling Body,
did or omitted to do anything with respect
to the affairs of a taxpayer, including that
person’s affairs, that in the opinion of the
official was intended to assist the taxpayer to
avoid or unduly postpone the performance of
an obligation imposed on the taxpayer under
any Tax Act, by reason of negligence on the
part of the person resulted in the avoidance or
undue postponement of the performance of
an obligation imposed on the taxpayer under
any Tax Act, constitutes a contravention of
a rule or code of conduct for the profession
which may result in disciplinary action being
taken against the Registered Tax Practitioner
or person by the Controlling Body.
At the end of 2012 there were 17 000
tax practitioners not registered with any
organisation – about half of the 34 000
practitioners who help taxpayers submit their
returns. Many practitioners may not even be
aware that they need to register. Taxpayers
should check that their Tax Practitioners are
registered.
The following five controlling bodies have
been recognised by SARS in terms of the Tax
Administration Act:
Institute of Accounting and Commerce IAC;
South African Institute of Chartered
Secretaries and Administrators - ICSA;
South African Institute of Chartered
Accountants - SAICA;
South African Institute of Professional
Accountants - SAIPA; and
South African Institute of Tax Practitioners
- SAIT.
A number of controlling bodies were also
automatically recognised in terms of the Tax
Administration Act:
General Council of the Bar of South Africa,
Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors
(IRBA) and
Law Societies established in terms of
Chapter 3 of the Attorneys Act, 1979.
The benefit for bona-fide registered tax
practitioners’ are that unqualified, cut-price,
fly by night operators will effectively be
taken out of the market. Jumping from one
tax practitioner to another will not achieve
anything since all registered tax practitioners
will in future insist on compliance with the tax
laws as they are held personally accountable
through their professional body and the Tax
Administration Act, so taxpayers won’t get a
different outcome by shopping around.
Any person who wilfully and without
just cause fails or neglects to register as a
Tax Practitioner as required under section
240 of the TA Act, is guilty of a CRIMINAL
OFFENCE and, upon conviction, is subject
to a fine or to imprisonment for a period not
exceeding two years.
During the course of this year, I will continue
to publish a monthly article in the LETABA
HERALD on different interesting tax and
business related topics with the heading “DID
YOU KNOW” as a service to the community.

makietie afskop, maar weens ‘n baie groot
vraag na hul produkte is die winkel reeds
oop. Volgens Rey kon hulle nie aanhou klante

“’n Kwart van ons ‘camo’-klere is reeds
verkoop, en dis nog nie eers te koop nie!” lag
hy.
Hulle beplan om binnekort ‘n aanlyn
winkel te skep sodat hulle regoor die land kan
verskaf.

Bo op Letaba kop by Letsitele staan ‘n kruis.
Dit is n baie groot kruis sodat mense dit van
vêr kan sien. Kan sien dat hier op Letsitele
soos op baie van ons ander dorpe in die land
kinders van die Here woon. Maar ek wil nie vir
u net van die kruis op Letaba kop wat oor ons
dorpie waghou vertel nie. Ook van hom maar
nie net van hom nie. Want u sien ook binne
ons kerk is daar n kruis, ook niks vreemds nie
want baie ander of moet ek eerder sê meeste
ander gemeentes het mos deesdae n kruis
binne die kerk. Maar die kruis binne die NG
Kerk Letsitele is spesiaal, want met hom word
daar op Goeie Vrydag n kruistog teen Letaba
kop na die ander kruis wat permanent op die
kop staan onderneem. Dit is n mooi, n baie
mooi gebeurtenis hierdie wat ek graag met u
deel. Nie om te probeer spog deur dit wat hier
by ons in die Laeveld gebeur nie, want ons
weet mos dat daar in baie ander gemeentes
baie ander meer imposante dinge rondom
Paasnaweek gebeur. Ek deel dit graag met u
want hierdie kruistog vat nie net aan ons hart
nie, dit laat ons ook, nie onveranderd nie.
Lydenstyd op Letsitele is vir ons n mooi en
n groot tyd op ons kerk almanak. Soos in baie
ander gemeentes hou ons elke aand gedurende
die groot Lydensweek n byeenkoms in die
kerk wat op die Donderdagaand voor Goeie
Vrydag eindig met n Donker diens wat fokus
op Jesus se lyding aan die kruis. Hierdie
dienste berei ons dan ook geestelik voor vir
die gebeure van Goeie Vrydag. Vrydagoggend
om 8:00 vier ons die gebruiklike nagmaal
tydens ons Goeie Vrydag diens in die kerk
en dan om 9:30 kom die gemeente, nou in
gemaklike klere, met mense van baie ander
kerke weer in die kerk bymekaar. Nou kom
ons bymekaar om die kruis wat binne die
kerk is teen Letaba kop op n kruistog uit te
dra na die bopunt. Al die leraars van al die
verskillende kerke wat teenwoordig is kom
voor die kansel bymekaar en dra die kruis tot
buite die kerk gebou, daar wag al die mense
wat deelneem aan die kruistog om die kruis
verder te neem tot bo op Letaba kop.
Met die kruis voor en almal wat volg word
daar n gelid gevorm van n klomp mense wat
nie in Israel nie maar in Limpopo simbolies
op Jesus se voetspore stap. Vier vier dra die
kruis en elke paar honderd meter teen die
kop uit word draers omgeruil want elkeen
moet n beurt kry om die kruishout aan sy
liggaam te voel skaaf. Uit die foto’s sal u sien
dat die kruis werklike grootte is. Langs die
roete op boontoe is daar sewe stop plekke
met kleiner kruise wat daar aangebring is en
waarop teksverse geskryf is. Hier stop ons en
bepeins die teks gedeelte op die klein kruisie
wat verband hou met Jesus se kruistog. Op
hierdie wyse raak ons deel van dit wat daar
op die via dolorosa gebeur het nie net deur
die kruis heen nie maar ook deur die woord.
Hier by die stop plekke gaan ek voor maar
Pastoor Max Rasakanya tolk elke sin wat daar
gesê word en so hoor Shangaan en Afrikaan
saam die woord. En nou hier op die tog teen
die berg uit maak dit skielik nie saak wie jy
is of wat jy doen of waar jy woon nie, want
ons fokus nie op ons pad nie maar op Sy pad.
En jy besef skielik as die sweet jou afloop as
jy en jou Shangaan broer saam die kruis teen
Letaba kop uit dra dat Sy lydens pad het Hy
vir ons almal geloop en nie net vir my en my
mense nie maar vir al Sy mense. Rus rus gaan
ons. En as ons bo kom. Dan staan die mense
van ons plaaslike sap fabriek daar vir ons en
wag met heerlike sap wat hulle vir ons gebring
het. En daar is stoele en selfs n kateder vir ds
Dawid Nyati wat die boodskap gaan bring.
En skielik besef jy dat die pad wat jy
opgeloop het na die bopunt was skoongemaak.
En as jy vra wie het die paadjie oopgesny,
wie het die stoele gebring, wie het die sap
gereël, wie het die kateder gebring, dan kry jy
maar net die antwoord: “ Ds die dag is maar
eintlik vir ons belangrik ons doen dit so. “ En
ek dink onwillekeurig aan die woorde van
my voorganger ds Barry van der Merwe wat
aan my gesê het dat die vorige dominees die
gemeente geestelik mooi grootgemaak het.
En ek staan met n dankbare hart verstom
om te sien hoe belangrik die Here nog vir ons
mense is. Dankbaar dat ek deel van hierdie
ervaring kon wees. Want ook vir my , my vrou,
dogtertjie en seuntjie het dit nie onveranderd
gelaat nie.
En nog is dit het einde niet. Sondagoggend
kry ons klomp mekaar weer daar op die kop.
Ses uur moet jy reeds met jou koffie en beskuit
reg wees om die eerste strale van die nuwe
dag waarop ons Here opgestaan op die kruis
op Letaba kop te sien val. En na die erediens
die oggend is jy moeg, want dit was n week
van kerk hou, net soos pinkster. Maar dit
was n goeie week, n week waarin jy elke aand
asook die Vrydag en Sondag saam met ander
gelowiges intens in die teenwoordigheid van
die Here was. En al wat ons kan sê is dankie
Here dat u so goed is vir ons en dat ons u
liefde ook so deur die mense van Letsitele kan
sien en ervaar.

Hospital, Ellen Madike
at her farewell
funcƟon on Friday.
Hospital CEO retires
AN unknown author once said retirement is
the world’s longest coffee break.
In that case this would be the same to
outgoing chief executive officer of Van
Velden Memorial Hospital, Ellen Madike.
The hospital staff bid farewell to her on
April 25 at the hospital’s dining hall. She
was accompanied by her two daughters, two
of her church mates and her grandson. The
staff had only good things to say about their
CEO. Madike joined the hospital in 2003 and
since day one she strived for good relations
with her staff. CEO’s from different hospitals
attended the event. The hospitals represented
were Nkhensani, Sekororo, DR Maphutha
Malatjie, Dr CN Phathudi and Letaba
Hospital.
Deputy Manager Nursing, Notsi Makhubele
said the staff is going to miss Madike and they
also appreciate what she has done for them.
She also described her as a brave woman
who stands her ground and speaks her
mind. Makhubele also added that no one will
replace Madike, she said: ‘Take your shoes
along because we don’t expect anyone to fit in
them.’ The hospital choir, made up of general
workers, also blessed Madike with their
sweet voices. CEO of Dr Maphutha Malatjie,
Rebecca Peta applauded Madike saying she
had run her race successfully. ‘Madike is
a people’s person and she has the ability to
bring the best out of other people,’ she said.
The District Office sent the Community
Liaison Officer Masilo Mogale who said they
appreciate her good work. Ever since she
took the office they never had complaints
from the Hospital. When Madike gave her
keynote speech she told her staff that she is
going to miss them but jokingly said she will
come take walks with them every Friday. She
thanked stakeholders who have worked with
the hospital all these years, the stakeholders
include: the South African Police Services,
Department of Home Affairs, Correctional
Services, Mediclinic, South African Social
Security Agency (SASSA) and many more.
She said she is happy that Dr. John Mybhurg
is the one taking over.

Hierdie jaar word ‘n bergfiets uithourit
beplan vir die fikse fietsryers en sal daar ook
dan korter roetes wees vir die kinders en
gesinne wat dit net vir die pret wil ry. Meer
inligting binnekort hieroor.
Daar sal ook kos- en kunsstalletjies wees en
die kinders sal heeldag besig gehou word in
hul eie veilige afgekampte area.
‘n Volledige program sal van hierdie maand
af beskikbaar wees by Mosaiek en kaartjies is
alreeds daar te koop.

Redenaars vaar
goed in
kompetisies
DIE Hoërskool Ben Vorster se redenaars moes
verlede week hulle staal wys tydens die Vossie
redenaarskompetisies, gehou op Maandag, 14
April, by die skool.
Al die redenaars het hulle baie goed van
hulle taak gekwyt. Die redenaarskompetisies
stel ál hoër uitdagings aan die redenaars.
Die onvoorbereide toesprake tel al meer.
Dit onderskei ware redenaars van ander wat
bloot voordra. Die onvoorbereide toesprake
by graad 10 tot 12 tel 80% vanjaar, terwyl
die voorbereide toesprake net 20% tel.
By graad 8 en 9 was die verhouding 70%
vir onvoorbereide toesprake en 30% vir
voorbereid.
Die redenaars wat deurgedring het na die
Limpopo-Noord Streekskompetisie van die
ATKV op Donderdag, 24 April 2014, is:
Juniors: Anzeret Scheepers, Wian Jacobs,
Eduard O’Reilly, Kara Greyling en Zané
Pelzer.
Seniors: Talitta Smit, Gretchen Bekker,
Mariska de la Rey, Isabel Opperman en Lucea
Roos.
Die Junior Vossie Redenaar vir 2014 is
Anzeret Scheepers. Talitta Smit is aangewys
as die Senior Vossie Redenaar vir 2014.
Die organiseerders bedank graag die
redenaars vir hulle harde werk, die beamptes
wat werksaam was by die kompetisies en die
beoordelaars: Sanet Muller, Annemarie van
Zyl, Nikki Pohl, Hannelie Schoonraad en

JANNELIZE Bessenger, graad 12-leerling
van die Hoërskool Ben Vorster, het op
Saterdag en Sondag, 12 en 13 April , aan die
Hans Merensky gholf klubkampioenskap in
Phalaborwa deelgeneem.
Sy het ‘n ronde van 8 oor baansyfer gespeel
en moes Sondag ‘n baie goeie ronde speel om
in die kompetisie te bly.
Jannelize speel toe Sondag gelyk aan
baansyfer (72) en wen vir die 5de jaar
agtereenvolgens die klubkampioenskap.

het op Saterdag, 19 April, ‘n gholfdag
aangebied ten bate van Vossie-netbal by die
Tzaneen gholfbaan. ‘n Woord van hartlike

RALLYE Sports Tzaneen Rally
will take place on Saturday May
10.
It will start at 10:00 at Letaba
Packers in Politsi.
There will be lots of spectator
points on five stages.

MTB Challenge this Saturday
THE Miami Magoebaskloof MTB Challenge will
be hosted at Merensky Highschool on May 3.
Entries and registration will be at Misty River
Spur on Friday May 2, from 18:00 – 21:00.
A special Spur-ala-Miami Cycling Pasta buffet is
on the menu for all cyclists.
Late entries and registration at Merensky
Highschool on Saturday morning from 06:00 –
7:30.
The race starts at 08:00.
Distances of 70km, 39km and a 14km funride.
A junior race for small toddlers and children
around the rugbyfield.
Coffee will be for sale at the start.
Spur Burgers and Cold Beer for sale at Spur’s
Beergarden. Tuckshop open. Jumping castle and
kiddies face painting.
On Sunday, May 4 the Magoebaskloof Hotel
Road challenge will be hosted from Magoebaskloof
Hotel.

Hotel Saturday, May 3, from 17:30 – 19:30 with a
carbo-load pasta buffet on the menu specially for
the cyclists.

Hotel on Sunday morning from 06:00 – 07:30.
Race starts at 8:00. Distances of 90km, 70km
and 22km. 60 marshals on the road for cyclists
safety as well as traffic officers and motorbike
marshals. Coffee will be for sale at the start
together with hamburgers, sausage rolls and other
refreshments.

Rally teams excel
The MDJ Motorsport team
of Erik De Jager and Alexx
Godrich claimed first in class
D and sixth overall during the
Regional rally championships
in Bronkhorstspruit. Photos by

TZANEEN based rally teams once again
made their home town proud bringing
back great results from the second round
of the Afican Regional rally championship
in Bronkhorstspruit last weekend.
The MDJ Motorsport team of Erik De
Jager and Alexx Godrich claimed first in
class D and sixth overall.
The team climbed as high as fourth
overall in the VW Citi Golf but an array
of mechanical problems saw them drop
to 6th , during the last two night stages,
although they maintained a comfortable
lead in their class.
This was Alexx’s (16) first ever rally,
following in his fathers footsteps who is
a multiple South African class champion
co-driver and currently navigating for
South Africa’s Giniel De Villiers.
Eddie
Simpson
and
Chersie
Groenewald claimed second in class E in
their Opel Corsa after a steady run, while
fellow Tzaneener, Peter Pilusa and James
Thompson was short on their heals
claiming third in class E in their Nissan
Sentra.
Tzaneen residents are in for some great
rally action when the first round of the
Northern Regions Rally Championship
kicks of in tzaneen on Saturday 10 May.
