To Chris, the two key ingredients of photography are light and time. Light can transform the mundane into the exotic and is the trickiest part of photography, as it is down to nature you have no control over it, patience is the only tool that can be used. Time on the other hand is a variable controlled by the photographer. An exposure can be anything from a fraction of a second to several minutes. Freeze framing a scene, to Chris, seems unnatural because he sees the world as constantly changing, nature isn’t still so why should a photograph. In his work, he strives to find the most perfect light and a timing that enhances the scene. They use only good quality materials to make good quality, high end products, thereby giving the original article a second chance. Artist and designer Michael Limon works with friend Sylvia Soulsby who is a very good sewer/ knitter, and with his designs and her skills, working together they have produced some beautiful, original and unique articles. e.g Jewellery, bags, slippers, headbands etc. Due to demand, at present the main articles they manufacture are bags of various styles. The designs are heavily influenced by Polly’s cultural heritage, from both her Danish ancestry and her British roots. This fusion of cultural perspectives combined with Polly’s interest in the people and nature around her combine to create contemporary products which aim to raise a smile. Polly’s “Why Aye” range developed after Polly settled in Newcastle and developed a love for the passion and proud nature of Geordies and people from the North East. Polly wanted to celebrate this pride by developing a range of home and gift ware depicting Geordie sayings via pictograms. These have proved incredibly popular with Geordies, and ex Geordies all over the world. Polly’s Animalask range and Oh Deer range capture the imaginations of Children and adults alike, drawing influence from historical traditions, whilst updating these for modern day living. Polly takes these ideas and develops contemporary (more animal friendly products) creating a unique collection with a witty edge.
