PO Box 2019 • 1115 Outlet Center Drive Smithfield, NC 27577 Telephone: (919) 938-0306 SECC Code: 3615 www.jcartscouncil.org Community Outreach • Music for the Lunch Bunch – a weekly concert series performed by local and regional musicians during the summer months • Art exhibits - work by local artists and students of Johnston County schools on display at Animal Protection Services, Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, local restaurants, Johnston Health Care, and the Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce • Artists Paint-In/Paint-Out - a monthly opportunity for artists to gather and create art • Art for Hope - arts activities for oncology and hematology patients at Johnston Health Grassroots • Awards Grassroots Arts Grants to local arts groups and non-profit organizations in support of projects and/or events that will culturally enrich Johnston County residents 2015-2016 Recipients: Ava Gardner Museum Benson Foundation for the Arts/Benson LIttle Theatre Boys & Girls Club of Johnston County Clayton Piano Festival Clayton Visual Arts Clayton Youth Theatre First Missionary Baptist Church The Johnston County Chorale Johnston County Music Association The Neuse Little Theatre Tobacco Farm Life Museum Scholarships • Partners with Johnston Community College to award scholarships to students pursuing careers in the Arts Special Events • The Annual Johnston County Art and Food Festival is an opportunity to view a juried art exhibit by local artists while sampling delicious foods provided by our finest local restaurants. (March 17, 2016 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) • Art in the Garden, in partnership with DeWayne’s Showplace, allows artists to exhibit their work during the spring open house. (April) Regional Artist Project Grant Program • Collaborates with the North Carolina Arts Council and a five-county consortium (Franklin, Vance, Warren, Johnston, and Wake) • Awards grants of up to $1500 to local artists to pursue projects that aid their professional development Frank Creech Art Gallery • Partners with Johnston Community College and community volunteers to reopen the Frank Creech Gallery in 2016 with art exhibits, events, and receptions • Makes the gallery more accessible to the visitors and citizens of Johnston County Artists in the Schools AITS is a grant program that supports the placement of professional artists in the classroom, grades K-12, for curriculum-based performances, workshops and residencies. AITS provides artists from the genres of music, dance, writing, theatre, visual arts, storytelling, and multi-disciplinary arts, giving students tools of learning and cultural enhancement not available from any other source. The Johnston County Artists in the Schools Program is modeled after the Artists in the Schools program of the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and is supported by services provided by United Arts. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. A Message from the President… e arts are an important part of our heritage, culture and daily lives and should be encouraged, supported, honored and cherished throughout Johnston County. e Arts Council supports opportunities for theatre groups, visual artists, dance troupes, musical events and literary efforts for all its citizens through grants, partnerships and Johnston County Arts Council sponsored events.
