About the Project:
The US Highway 61 (Main Street) Project includes the
reconstruction of US Highway 61 between Old West Main
Street and Potter Street in downtown Red Wing. The City
has developed a project to replace utilities, reconstruct
the roadway corridor, enhance multimodal travel, and
incorporate key streetscaping elements.

The primary improvements of the project include:
•Full pavement reconstruction and utilities replacement
•Narrowed overall roadway pavement section with the use
of 11’ travel lanes
•Improved street lighting - decorative and efficient
pedestrian/roadway lighting
•Improved Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
pedestrian facilities
•Mid-block pedestrian crossing between Hill Street and
Franklin Street, including median refuge and HighIntensity Activated crossWalk (HAWK) signal system
•Pedestrian bump-outs at key intersections downtown
•Traffic Signal upgrades
•Streetscape improvements including trees, planted
boulevards and medians, pedestrian and bicycle
amenities, and gateway and historic district identity
features
