Lenten Gospel Acclamation
3rd Sunday of Lent
Entrance Chant: Return to God
Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and
earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was
buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose
again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated
at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he
will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the
communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Sending Forth: Save Your People
Draw Near
1. Draw near and take the Body of the Lord, and drink with faith the Blood
for you outpoured. Saved by Christ’s Body and his holy Blood,
with souls refreshed we give our thanks to God.
2. Christ, our Redeemer, God’s eternal Son, has by his cross and blood the
vic’try won. He spent his life for greatest and for least.
Praise Christ, the Paschal Victim, Christ the priest.
3. Let us approach with faithful hearts sincere and claim the promise of
salvation here. Christ rules our hearts and all his saints defends;
He gives believers life that never ends.
4. With heav’nly bread Christ makes the hungry whole; his living water fills
the thirsting soul. Alpha-Omega, unto whom shall bow
All nations of the earth, be with us now.

Reading the Face of God VIII DISCERNMENT
Discernment is prayer, it is a gift of God. It is impossible to discern if we are not first of all committed to doing God’s will. If
doing God’s will means nothing to us, we don’t need discernment; we just do what-ever is fun or easy. When we are committed to
follow God, we must go to Him in prayer, but such prayer is like wrestling with God. Consider the story of Jacob in Genesis; he
had a history of taking the easy way out of dilemmas so when his slightly older twin brother Esau was about to receive his
inheritance from his father Isaac, Jacob dressed up in Esau’s clothes in order to steal the blessing from his brother. [Genesis 27 and
following] Shortly thereafter Jacob left his homeland and spent many years working for his uncle; during that time he married his
wives and had many children. When he moved back to the Land of Promise he spent a restless night before meeting his brother
whom he had cheated. He described it as wrestling with an Angel, and usually that is how discernment prayer is too. Often we
make decisions by taking an easy way, and if it seems inconvenient or difficult we might just say “forget it.” Or we might get mad
at God because not all decisions fall into our lap. But when we are committed to doing God’s will we will want to engage in
prayer, even though like Jesus in Gethsemane we might wish it would pass us by. Openness to God’s will however does not
necessarily imply that we never do anything fun and have to go around with a long face. Being a religious nut-case or “fanatic”
may be just as much a block to doing God’s will as taking the easy way. IHM Pray for us Father Jerry
LEYENDO LA CARA DE DIOS VIII
DISCERNIMIENTO
encontramos inconveniente o dificultoso nosotros simplemente diremos “olvidalo.”

When Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for a drink of wáter,
He opened the door for a life-changing realtionship with Him.
Scripture says her testimony drew many others to Him as well.
We, too, must be ready to respond whenever and wherever the
Lord speaks to us and be prepared for it to change our lives!
