NEWSLETTER
2008 HOLIDAY WALK
JANUARY 8TH HOLIDAY PARTY
The 2008 Holiday Walk held on December 6th was a
great success. Hundreds came to see Santa, visit Village Hall, see the tree-lighting, pet the reindeer and participate in the Passport Game. As the afternoon turned
to dusk, the lights in town looked great and it really felt
like the Holiday Season! The event keeps growing and
I highly encourage every member to try and participate
next year. The community, especially the families in
town with children, truly love this event and keep expecting bigger and better from us.
We have already started planning some improvements for next year. If you have opinions and suggestions for 2009, please join me in organizing this event.
The Grand Prize Winner of the 42 inch Big Screen
TV from the Passport Game was Pam Dubonetti.
Our installation of officers and holiday party will be
held on January 8th at Nino’s Buona Cucina at 9237
W. Ogden Ave. Cocktails from 6 pm to 7 pm with
dinner served promptly at 7 pm. The menu for the
evening, which will be served family-style, includes
Baked Chicken and Prime Roast Beef, Pasta, Oven
Roasted Potatoes, Green Beans, Salad, Coffee and
Spumoni for dessert. There will be a cash bar! The
cost is $25.00 per person. RSVP by January 5th.
If you haven’t responded yet, do so now. You can
RSVP by sending in the response part of the invitation
along with a check for the number of people that will
be there or by calling Betty LeClere at 485-3893 or
Ellen Frantzen at 485-7042.
Have a safe and happy holiday season,

SENIOR SOCIAL

First Vice President
Mike McNeily
It will soon be time for the Second Annual Senior
Social, which is hosted by the Brookfield Chamber
and the Recreation Department. This is a great
opportunity to get together and meet some of our
senior residents. We are anticipating 50 to 75 seniors
for an afternoon of light music, snacks and beverages.
You are welcome to join this event and promote your
business or supply Valentine’s Day treats. You may
also want to make a special “Valentine” from your
business. We would love to have anything to help
make this a special time for our guests. It would be so
nice to give all of our seniors a goody bag of treats and
valentines to take home.
We will be asking for donations and RSVP’s
towards this event in January. Thank you for all your
support.

NOTICE TO
NEWSLETTER ADVERTISERS
On pages 3 and 4 in this newsletter you will find the
2009 Application for Membership. You will notice
a change at the bottom to include a “special offer”
that you may want to consider giving other Chamber
members. On the back of the application are the
specifics of your “offer.”
Please complete the application and get it in the
mail ASAP! All completed applications and
payment should be received by JANUARY 31st.
At this time we do not plan on sending out
separate reminders or applications to save some
money on postage. We decided that since the
newsletter is being mailed to all members that we
would use it as a means of getting the applications
out to the members.
Looking forward to being with you at the Holiday
Party on January 8th!
For those of you that have advertised with us
previously, your payment for your advertisement in
the Newsletter is now due. I usually send out invoices
ahead of time but this has been a very busy time for
me so I am letting you know through the newsletter
that the invoices are coming soon. I know that there
are 2 advertisers who joined us in May and I will
contact them in April about renewing their
advertisement at that time. If you do not advertise in
the Newsletter, why not start now. Contact Jerry

JANUARY 2009
FEATURE MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Brookfield Jaycees
The Brookfield Jaycees is a not-for-profit organization
which for the last 34 years has provided area residents
the tools they need to build the bridges of success for
themselves in the areas of business development,
management skills, individual training, community
service, and international connections. The foundation
of the organization is to provide members with
leadership training and personal development through
community involvement so members have the
opportunity to improve their own skills and become the
best they can be while helping others — the ultimate
“win-win”.
In 2008, the chapter increased its programming and
grew in membership every month. The chapter was
ranked first in the Illinois Jaycees Parade of Chapters
competition, a program which tracks progress amongst
all 88 Jaycee chapters within the state. Chapters are
awarded points for a variety of different items in the
following areas: Planning, Training, Personnel
Management, Public Relations, Communications,
Financial Management, Membership Growth, and
Membership Retention, Orientation, and Activation.
The Brookfield Jaycees were ranked fifth after the first
trimester with 7,470 points and moved up to a first
place ranking after the second trimester with 12,470
points. 2008 Brookfield Jaycees President, Yvonne
Agnello-Adams, stated “We are very excited to be
ranked #1 in the State, especially because the Parade of
Chapters program awards points for doing things the
chapter should do to be a well-rounded, community
focused chapter which grows in membership. We have
all worked very hard this year and this is a great reward
for everyone’s dedication and commitment to success.”
The chapter is always looking for new members who
wish to improve themselves while making a difference
in the Brookfield area. Regular membership is open to
people age 18 – 41 and Associate membership is open
to those outside of that age range. Annual events include
the Easter Egg Hunt, Fourth of July Concessions, the
Haunted House, Christmas At Your Doorstep &
countless other worthwhile projects which positively
impact the community.
Monthly meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each
month at Joe’s Saloon Banquet Room located at 9220
W. 47th Street in Brookfield. Please call the chapter’s
hotline at 708-387-4695 or visit their website at
www.brookfieldjaycees.com for more details.

SANTA ARRIVES AT JAYCEE/EHLERT
Santa’s arrival at Jaycee/Ehlert Park was a bit different
this year due to the flying conditions and visibility.
Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived by fire truck on a very
cold and windy day to the delight of a very large group
of children and adults.
