chicano batman represents los angeles by way of latin america
Chicano Batman represents Los Angeles by way of Latin America. Musically, they are a melting pot of styles, cultures, and sounds that formed originally as a trio in 2008 through Bardo Martinez, who met drummer Gabriel Villa at a local show, and soon after jamming together, decided they needed to find a bass player. The idea of a batman with a mustache, and flannel cape was Martinez’ brain child that both Villa and EduardoArenas, the newly found bassist and like-minded vigilante could relate to, and together form a team greater than the sum of its parts. QVOLÉ COLLECTIVE INDEPENDENT ARTIST MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT PRESENTS: BIOGRAPHY CHICANO BATMAN REPRESENTS LOS ANGELES BY WAY OF LATIN AMERICA Presently, Chicano Batman is a fearsome four-piece with the latest addition of Fender aficionado and guitar-tone master, Carlos Arevalo, who also linked up with the trio through mutual musical alliances. The Chicano Batman sound draws from a broad range of Brazilian bossa nova and samba, cumbia, psychedelia, and both Latin and American soul, sounding a bit like a modern-day Os Mutantes. In 2010 they released their self-titled debut through Unicornio Records, an obscure label specializing in underground sounds of different styles and cultures. After this release the band immediately generated a strong following on the East side of Los Angeles, due in part to the connections of Unicornio’s founder, DJ Lengua. In June of this year Chicano Batman released their follow-up in the form of a 4-track EP titled Joven Navegante (Young Traveler), the 10-inch version on wax officially dropped on October 12th 2012. It has the soulful mastering touches of Dave Cooley (J-Dilla, Madlib, Betty Davis), and is a tight, funky, and smooth wave of sound full of creative depth and spiritual intensity. “It is a true document of our their existence and is a definiteprogression in the band’s musicianship and musical aesthetic”, as told by bassist Eduardo Arenas, this is their bold step into the future...
