FWADA FALL GALLERY NIGHTTM 2015 1
FWADA is a unique arts organization in a unique American place. Few cities of Fort Worth’s size are privileged to command such a wealth of major art museums, and fewer still have such a vital community spirit. What truly sets Fort
Worth apart, however, is the vigorous, longstanding, clearly defined cooperation between the museums, the university
art galleries, the non-profit exhibition spaces, and the art dealers, all of which are full working members of FWADA. To
fulfill its stated mission to stimulate interest in the visual arts through educational programs, art scholarships, and art
competitions, FWADA organizes, funds, and hosts exhibitions of noteworthy art. It sponsors the Fall Gallery NightTM for
members and friends, as well as Spring Gallery NightTM.
All these attainments have created a stable environment that produces a steady stream of top-notch talent, including
major local artists who exhibit their work nationally and internationally. Newcomers are frequently dazzled by the quality
of work being created in every medium and style. Their passion reinvigorates Fort Worth patrons who have become
habituated to the riches that surround them, reminding them anew that the most authentic cultural connection they can
make is the one that affords direct communication with the artists who interpret and illuminate the life experience they
share through common background and interests. Although the city is justly recognized for its cosmopolitan worldview,
it is the local artists and their devoted collectors who are the lifeblood of the Fort Worth art market.
The members of the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association are pledged to the maintenance of a high standard of ethical
conduct and professional integrity, these businesses furnish a model that gallery associations in other cities might do

For her first exhibition in Texas, Sandra Vásquez
de la Horra presents a series of drawings and
sculptures featuring strange figures enacting
nightmarish behavior. Born in Chile, now living
in Berlin, the artist is recognized for her captivating and sometimes unnerving images, which
suggest Using pencils, she draws on different
types of paper, which she then dips in wax,
resulting in mysterious, seductive works.

Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic
Through January 10, 2016
This exhibition of approximately 60 works begins
with early examples of paintings inspired by
Wiley’s observations of the street life in Harlem;
these images of African-American men, mark the
onset of his focused exploration of the male
figure. In subsequent work, Wiley further
examines the European tradition of a portraiture,
taking specific paintings by renowned masters
such a Titan Van Dyck, and Manet and replacing
the historical subjects with contemporary, young black men sporting fashionable
urban gear.

On April 25th Douglas Walton and a group of 15 artists were bound for Tibet by
bus, when giant boulders began to fall. The Nepal earthquake had occurred,
changing life as they had known it.
Amid destruction and chaos, they made art, sheltered on a terraced field, for
nearly a week, until helicopters evacuated them back to Kathmandu. There, they
continued drawing the rubble of ancient monuments, forever transformed.
This selection of drawings, paintings, and photographs comprise a record of
Doug’s earth-shaking adventure in Nepal.

work using an ancient kiln type from Japan. The

sensibilities and at the same time revives an ancient ceramic tradition. The group show
includes Tadashi Hirakawa, a potter and artist from Bizen, Japan who has studied ancient firing
techniques and coined the term Tsuchigama; Yukiko Akai, who has worked with Mr. Hirakawa
for the last five years and has helped in the construction and firing of this type of kiln; Tomoko
Sakomoto; Chris Powell; Sydney Williams; and Courtney Hamilton.
