She plays predatory dentist Julia Harris, who ruthlessly harasses her hygienist (Charlie Day), resorting even to blackmail and threats Top: Jennifer Aniston (right) with Charlie Day in a still from the movie Horrible Bosses; Bottom: A movie poster of Horrible Bosses. CINDY PEARLMAN NYT SYNDICATE EING a rich and famous movie star isn’t a bad gig, and most of those who have managed it make a point of enjoying it – in large part because, unlike royalty or billionaire heiresses, they’ve usually had their share of awful jobs on their way to rich-and-famous. Jennifer Aniston, for example, spent 10 years playing Rachel on Friends (19942004), which left her rich even by movie-star standards and famous by almost any criteria, and now she regularly stars in major motion pictures. As she sits down at a posh Manhattan hotel to talk about her newest and perhaps most offbeat film, the comedy Horrible Bosses, she is reminded that her appointments in New York weren’t always this grand. “When I was much younger, I was a bike messenger in New York City,” the 42-year-old Aniston says. “I was 19, to be exact. You should see me riding a bike!” she laughs heartily. “Oh, I was very uncoordinated,” Aniston says. “I was extraordinarily klutzy. I should have never even been allowed on a bicycle with all those cylinders and gears, or whatever you call them. The worst day was when I actually drove into an open door. You could see that I needed to find another career option, and fast!” As it turns out, Plan B went pretty well. As Aniston settles in to talk about her movie, she looks slim and stylish. She’s thin and muscular, with a ready smile befitting a woman who has achieved practically everything short of an Oscar that an actress can aspire to – including, B Jennifer Aniston if the rumours are true, a fresh new romance with actor Justin Theroux. After winning a reputation as a latterday “America’s Sweetheart” on Friends, Aniston has been using her big-screen career to flex her acting chops, doing everything from over-the-top comedies such as Bruce Almighty (2003), The Break-Up (2006) and Just Go With It (2011) to dramas such as The Good Girl (2002), Derailed (2005) and Friends with Money (2006). In Horrible Bosses, set to open nationwide on July 8, Aniston adds a new type to her filmography: a comic villain. Instead of playing an oppressed worker, as she has in such films as Office Space (1999) and The Good Girl, she plays one of the title characters: predatory dentist Julia Harris, who ruthlessly harasses her hygienist (Charlie Day) for sex, resorting even to blackmail and threats. Is the moviegoing public ready for Jennifer Aniston as, well, a sleaze? She doesn’t know and, she says, doesn’t care. “I don’t want to play it safe all the time,” the actress says defiantly. ‘I wanted to take a risk. I wanted to do something that allowed me to go in a different direction. I’ve never had a script come to me in the past that allowed me to go in this direction. The risk made it fun. “I don’t think I really cared if there was a bad reaction to it,” she adds, “although I didn’t think there would be a bad reaction. I just thought it would be fun for everybody to see a different me. At least I hoped.” Aniston also liked the gender reversal of having the woman as the harasser. “It’s usually the male character in that role,” she says. “That’s why I thought of her like a guy. Other than that, I just stuck to what was in the script. I didn’t have any input as to what she said. That was all on the page – and I was tickled and excited. The raunchier, the better.” Director Seth Gordon says in a separate interview that Aniston was his first choice to play Julia, precisely because of the contrast between Aniston’s usual image and the character’s down-anddirty dialogue. “The only person I could imagine saying those raunchy lines and having it be electric and amazing was Aniston,” he says. “I was just so glad that she said yes.” “I just kept apologising to Charlie for everything I said or what had just happened during a take,” Aniston says. “In between straddling him, I would say, ‘I’m so sorry. Really! Are you doing OK?”’ Her fans will have more to swallow than the skeevy character she plays. Aniston also deep-sixed her trademark long, blonde hair, pinning it up under a mousy-brown wig with bangs. “I knew I wanted her to look different,” the actress says. “I’m the one who insisted on the dark hair. I was doing a movie right before this, and one after, that had me looking more like me, and I knew this character had to be different.” Predictably, executives at Warner Bros. were less than thrilled to have the film’s biggest-name star rendering herself all but unrecognisable. “We had this wonderful period of time I call Hairgate,” she says. “The studio didn’t want me to wear a wig. I was told, ‘No one will know who you are!’ I said, ‘They will know my name from the credits.”’ Aniston hung tough, and ultimately got her way. “There was just no way I could be saying those words and not look somewhat different,” she says. “I just felt such a freedom.” Not as much freedom as the Internet might want you to think. For months there were rumours that Aniston would do a topless scene in the film, but she insists that nothing of the kind was ever planned. Her scenes with Day are suggestive, but there’s no nudity. “I have no idea where those rumours started,” she says, “but it’s a good rumour. Not true at all.” It has been suggested that Aniston has taken parts such as this one and her scheming seductress in Derailed in a conscious effort to ditch her image as “America’s Sweetheart,” but she says that such is not the case. In fact, she’s clearly frustrated by the whole topic. “I didn’t take this role to rid myself of the title,” she says. ‘I don’t even know where that title came from in the first place. It’s a label. You’re branded, but you can’t do anything about it. There will always be something attached to you. “I’m an actress,” Aniston says. “And, by the way, there are so many American sweethearts. My motivation is always to challenge myself and step out of what people usually like to see me play.” Her next film, Wanderlust, will debut later this year, with Aniston paired onscreen with Theroux, reportedly her offscreen love interest as well. Aniston refuses to answer questions about her private life, of course, presumably because she got her fill of them in 2005, when her then-husband, Brad Pitt, left her for Angelina Jolie, kicking up a tabloid tsunami that continues to this day. It hasn’t helped that Aniston has had subsequent relationships with other stars, including John Mayer and Vince Vaughn, or that Pitt and Jolie have maintained an extremely high-profile not-quite-marriage. To this day every crumb of information about her personal life is devoured by the tabloids, and she is followed by paparazzi wherever she goes – to her own bewilderment. “For the life of me,” Aniston says, “I don’t understand the joy of following me as I walk down the street or buy groceries.” She has her own ways of maintaining her serenity, not to mention her famously buffed figure. “It’s yoga,” Aniston says. “I do it all the time. If I didn’t, my spirit wouldn’t feel good.” Startalk Lifeline Jessica Alba’s simple beauty routine Secret of Fox’s svelte figure JESSICA Alba says her beauty routine is very simple and she uses sunscreen everyday to keep her skin glowing. The 30-year-old actress says her simple beauty routine has always worked for her, reports femalefirst.co.uk. “My mother always told me to wash my face every night, wear sunscreen during the day and drink plenty of water. It’s simple but I like to think that it works for me,” she said. Another family trick Alba swears by is to use her lipstick on her cheeks, saying: “Before there was cream blush, my grandmother would apply lipstick on her lips, cheeks and eyes. I still do that today.” MEGAN Fox believes treating herself on the weekend is the secret to her stunning figure. “Megan has been treating herself at the weekends. On weekdays she sticks to protein with salad and veg,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted a source as saying. The 25-year-old also works out with husband Brian Austin Greene. “He has got Meg into it. She does cardio and weights twice weekly but focuses on yoga and pilates, which she loves,” he added. 34 Sunday, July 3, 2011 PLAYHOUSE www.qatar-tribune.com Beetle Bailey Blondie YESTERDAY’S ANSWER Popeye Spiderman LEARN ARABIC Angham Melodies Ala Instrument Masrah Stage Zits Kalimat Lyrics Oghnia Song Moghani Singer Dennis the Menace The Lockhorns Phone: 44666810 FOR SUBSCRIPTIONS CONTACT US AT: Fax: 44654975 Post Box No: 23493 Email: admin@qatar-tribune.com S TA R TA L K ARIES [mar 21 – apr 19] The next six weeks is a wonderful time to redecorate your home or buy beautiful goodies for family members — just because you feel like it! CARRY tops and trousers which are parallel in shade generating a good, fresh feeling. It will furthermore craft you appear 10 pounds thinner. In fact everything in black will craft you appear thinner; just make sure you add a few colours with trimmings to avert that Goth look. 2. Do not carry tee’s and wear tops that include big or hard prints on them. This grasps particularly accurate for bigger, unwieldy men. Not just are the tawdry but they also sketch consideration to your body’s higher half. Not the finest plan if you are striving to discontinue everybody from observing your large tummy. Wear a top with a miniature print that is paced rather distant apart. 3. A good belt not merely appears fashionable but will also provide you an additional slip in your waistline to make you look thinner. You do not desire any tummy extension, also called a muffin tops, so do not carry your belt excessively fixed. Maxi dresses are back this summer NYT SYNDICATE T HE Denver Post with the 1970s mood that has swept fashion for a few seasons, it was inevitable that one of the era’s iconic looks would be revived. This summer, the maxi is back. Most of the women wearing anklegrazing skirts weren’t around the first time maxis were popular, so the style looks new and fresh to them. They’re wearing the skirts and dresses to charity fundraisers, restaurants, cocktail parties and backyard barbecues. The designs are as varied as the places to wear them: Some have a loose, bohemian flair; others are tailored. They are available in a wide range of fabrics, patterns and silhouettes. Prices vary, too. Such stores as Forever 21, Love Culture and Macy’s juniors department have them for less than $30. At women’s boutiques and fine department stores, one can set you back $500. Lisa Walko, who wore a black and white print maxi dress to a recent fundraiser at the Denver Zoo, said she was attracted to the look because it was “cute and comfortable.” Most of the women wearing ankle-grazing skirts weren’t around the first time maxis were popular, so the style looks new and fresh Jennifer Niederhouse, 38, admitting to having her maxi dress for more than 10 years but only recently brought it out again. The outfit, accessorised with a crocheted and beaded scarf, makes her feel “romantic,” she said, and she’s worn it recently to weddings and a party. Nancy Taylor Farel, a Boulder image consultant, is a fan of the look. “For moms, they’re a dream come true. You can throw one on top of a bathing suit, wear it to someone’s house for a barbecue or catch a casual evening out.” “A longer hemline looks good right now,” says Ken Downing, fashion director of Neiman Marcus. And he’s not only talking about maxis. “We’re in a mood for much more polite and ladylike dressing,” he says. That noted, maxis are everywhere this summer. Downing says he’s been seeing the “breezy, effortless bohemian” look everywhere from the streets of New York City to the beach. “Some of the patterns in summer dresses are directly inspired by the 1960s and 70s; it’s all about your personal taste,” he says, adding he likes them worn with beads, a long necklace and either a flat sandal or a wedge. “You need a shoe with some heft to it,” he says. The maxi look was introduced in the 1960s and was influenced by the twin forces of the hippie era in America and Yves Saint Laurent’s high-end fashion collections in France. “Hippies in the late 1960s were into gypsylike costuming, ethnic and Native American looks” which featured long skirts, says Julianne Attmann, professor and fashion, at The Art Institute of Colorado. And on the high-fashion front, Attmann says the trade paper Women’s Wear Daily first showed maxi looks from Yves Saint Laurent in the summer of 1967. Still, it took until the 1970s for the style to gain traction. And that’s as true today as it was then, even though the public often now sees the fashion collections at the same time as the buyers and fashion editors. “That’s human nature. It takes time for your eye to become accustomed to a new look,” she says. 36 Sunday, July 3, 2011 CHANNEL SURFING www.qatar-tribune.com BEST ON TV TONIGHT 8:00 pm CNN International: INTERNATIONAL DESK 10:00 pm Cartoon Network: BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD 9:10 pm Discovery Science: THROUGH THE WORMHOLE WITH MORGAN FREEMAN 3:00 pm Fox Sports: EUROPEAN TOUR TV PRIME TIME GUIDE 7:00 PM 7:30 PM 8:00 PM BBC WORLD CNN INTERNATIONAL CARTOON NETWORK DISNEY JUNIOR BBC WORLD NEWS PRISM BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE ADVENTURE TIME JAKE & THE NEVERLAND PIRATES INDIA BUSINESS REPORT BBC WORLD NEWS CNN MARKETPLACE MIDDLE EAST INTERNATIONAL DESK THIRD EYE 8:30 PM BBC WORLD NEWS 9:00 PM 9:30 PM NEWS SPECIAL SPORT TODAY CLICK WORLD REPORT BBC WORLD NEWS 10:00 PM NEWS SPECIAL SPIRIT OF WIMBLEDON 10:30 PM 11:00 PM 11:30 PM THE MARVELOUS MISADVENTURES OF FLAPJACK PIERS MORGAN TONIGHT WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE CAR THE TECH SHOW DISCOVERY ATLAS: BRAZIL REVEALED THE GADGET SHOW SPECIAL AGENT OSO THE POWERPUFF GIRLS THE HIVE ED, EDD N EDDY JUNGLE JUNCTION CARTOON NETWORK DANCE CLUB MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD SKUNK FU! for Ishq Dangerous Scene unscene Salman encourages new talent: Asin SOUTHERN beauty Asin Thottumkal, who has shared screen space with Bollywood star Salman Khan in two films, says that the actor encourages new talent a lot. “Salman is quite encouraging of new talent. I saw a lot of these young boys come up to him with their portfolios for a break and he really encourages them.... takes them under his wings and does whatever he can to help them. I found that very nice and endearing,” Asin said. The 25-year-old actress has worked with Salman in the films London Dreams and Ready. AFTER several speculations of Karisma Kapoor returning to big screens now and then, the actress is finally making her official comeback with Vikram Bhatt’s 3D, supernatural thriller Ishq Dangerous. Karisma will feature in five roles in five different eras and lifetimes, spanning India’s important mythological and historical events. Starting from Meerabai (Lord Krishna’s devotee), then partition of India, Indira Gandhi’s assassination and finally to the present day politics. As a result, the actress has been asked to do some serious research to prepare for her characters. Karisma will get to do heavy duty action sequences and she is expected to undergo training in martial arts. KARISMA KAPOOR ASIN THOTTUMKAL Comedy comes naturally to me: Kangana Ranaut Kangana Ranaut After Double Dhamaal, Kangana will be seen in another laugh-riot Rascals, which stars Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn and is being helmed by David Dhawan IANS HE may be known for her intensity and emotive portrayals of conflicted characters in films like Gangster and Fashion, but Kangana Ranaut says that she is essentially a “funloving” person and the comedy genre comes quite naturally to her. Kangana, most recently seen in the comedy Double Dhamaal that released last Friday, seems to be consciously veering towards lighter films. The National Awardwinning actress, who started her Bollywood journey with a spate of serious films, has been seen in breezy roles in Tanu Weds Manu, No Problem and now Double Dhamaal. “I’m a very fun-loving person in real life and comedy comes naturally to me. In fact, I always found intense characters challenging. But as an outsider in the industry you don’t have a choice in the roles you are offered. You take what you get,” Kangana said in an interview. S A still showing Kangana Ranaut (centre) with Ajay Devgn (left) and Sanjay Dutt (right) from the movie Rascals. “I don’t regret the earlier films I did though - they were fantastic and brought me to this point. But I am enjoying comedy,” the 24year-old added. “Also now I think producers have faith in me, that I can do these roles well and audiences also like me in such roles...Tanu Weds Manu’ was such a hit; so I’m getting a lot of comedies,” she added. After Double Dhamaal, Kangana will be seen in another laugh-riot Rascals, which stars Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn and is being helmed by David Dhawan. Asked whether she was more comfortable with solo roles or being part of an ensemble cast, she said: “I like doing films with strong scripts that I think audiences will like, a set up that will deliver the script’s promise. It doesn’t matter if it’s a solo lead or a two-heroine film.” “Although it depends on the director and how he positions and portrays you in a film, getting noticed in a big cast is possible. People really noticed my performance in Fashion even though I was not the lead,” she added. On the personal front, Kangana, who started her career in 2006 with Gangster, is quite happy with what she has achieved in five years, particularly considering that she is an outsider in the industry. “It’s very fulfiling of course to see people appreciate your work, but I still have a very long way to go. It was very tough. I still face many challenges, but I am happy with the place I am in today.” What troubles her are the persistent rumours of link-ups. After her break-up with Adhyayan Suman, Kangana was linked with several actors like Dino Morea and Ajay Devgn and even Hollywood actor Gerard Butler. “It’s not a good feeling when you see rubbish being written. But I’m learning to take it in my stride. I guess it’s an unfortunate side effect of the job,” said Kangana. And when do you plan to settle down? “I’m just 24...there’s plenty of time for that,” a smiling Kangana said. Bollywood making international mark with better scripts: Lisa Ray MANPREET KAUR IANS HE calls herself a cancer graduate, swears by the prowess of yoga and is penning a book on the disease. All this while Indian-Canadian actress Lisa Ray has been itching to return to Bollywood, which according to her is growing by leaps and bounds internationally. “India has started to make an international impact and we are going from strength to strength. The kind of films that are being made now, the scripts...the way films are being made keeping in mind the global audience and also the technology advancements... It is growing by leaps and bounds,” Lisa said. Ray, who made her Bollywood debut in 2001 with Kasoor, received critical acclaim for her performance in Deepa Mehta’s Water. The actress was going strong with a string of films like Bollywood/Hollywood, I Can’t Think Straight, Kill Kill Faster Faster and Cooking with Stella S Life has taken a new turn and I feel blessed and rewarded. I am happy to be alive. I am working on opening a yoga studio in Canada and also writing a book on cancer awareness –– Lisa Ray when suddenly in 2009 she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma — a rare cancer of the bone marrow. But the actress says she was undeterred by the experience and looks back at the phase in a positive light. “I have been through a difficult period and I was very open about it. There are many lessons that I learnt during that phase of my life. I call myself a cancer graduate now. Now I am more prepared and enthusiastic about life. I am excited to re-engage with life,” she said. The 39-year-old, who was born to a Polish mother and Bengali father, made her cinematic debut in 1994 in Tamil film Nethaji. These days she is busy penning a book. “Life has taken a new turn and I feel blessed and rewarded. I am happy to be alive. I am working on opening a yoga studio in Canada and also writing a book on cancer awareness.” She says the life threatening disease has made her realise the importance of life. “After suffering from such a life-threatening phase, I have realised that life is too important to take it for granted. I take complete care of my health, I eat healthy, keep note of my medicines and yoga is a great help. The fact that I have always believed in yoga and have been doing it since the last 12 years can be the reason I have so much hope and energy within.” She says that relationships have become more important to her now. “I believe that relationships with people who really love and care for you help you survive. I have learnt it the hard way that one should give enough time to relationships that matter,” she said. When asked about the status of her relationship with fashion photographer Paolo Zambaldi, she said: “I am not looking forward to marrying some time very soon, but I am enjoying this phase with him right now. I wish and hope that life gets better after this.” The actress refused to divulge details about her upcoming project but maintained that she is raring to make a comeback. “I have a big project coming up, but it is not the right time to reveal this.” “I can’t wait to get back into films with a nice juicy project. Though I don’t plan anything, I will wait for something that really interests me. I am in no hurry to load myself with work and anyway I will have to wait for my hair to grow long to work in a film,” she says. Lisa Ray Sunday, July 3, 2011 HOLLYWOOD Scene unscene www.qatar-tribune.com 39 David Duchovny and wife Tea Leoni separate again Olivia Wilde spotted flirting with Ryan Reynolds ACTOR David Duchovny, who once admitted an addiction to sex, and his wife Tea Leoni have separated again, his spokeswoman said recently. Duchovny and Leoni, who have been married since 1997, previously separated in 2008, the same year he sought treatment for sex addiction. Their latest separation was confirmed by Duchovny’s publicist, Flo Grace. It was unclear when they split up. The 50 year-old Duchovny plays a sex-mad writer on Showtime cable drama Californication, after previously starring in 1990s hit drama The X-Files. OLIVIA’S flirt fest continues!: Just days after reportedly getting “touchly-feely” with Jake Gyllenhaal, Olivia Wilde was reportedly spotted chatting up Ryan Reynolds recently. According to People, the actress was seen at the Troubador in West Hollywood. California, reportedly getting cozy with the Green Lantern star. The duo enjoyed a musical performance by Jeff Bridges. According to the magazine, Olivia and Ryan left the club separately. This begs the questions, should it be Ryan or Jake for the actress? TEA LEONI (RIGHT) AND DAVID DUCHOVNY OLIVIA WILDE Transformers 3 is onslaught of technology over human drama TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK LEASED with his first effort but downright apologetic about the second Transformers movie, director Michael Bay has thrown every imaginable visual effect, CG animation and physical stunt, all in 3D, into the battle for planet Earth. Bay really needed a gag shot where one alien transforms itself into the kitchen sink. Make no mistake: Out of a line of Hasbro toys, Bay has created a world of his own. Call it Bay World. It has its own logic, which is movie logic cubed. It has its own heroes and villains, only try to tell the toys — sorry, action figures — apart. Is the machine that favours red colours a good machine or a bad one? And once you figure that out, does the damn machine switch sides? The Paramount release will be playing in much of the world by the weekend. That a huge worldwide audience is primed for this movie hardly needs stating. But the range of those actually enjoying the onslaught of technology at the expense of human drama might be P narrower than Bay, Hasbro or Paramount think. The kick of the first movie was the pleasurable shock of humans and these transformative mechanical beings interacting. The third chapter is dedicated to little more than wanton destruction. Then, too, Bay World has always felt misshapen. When these action figures take centre stage, they are so huge and the humans so tiny that they don’t comfortably inhabit the same visual space. The 3D, which is actually quite good for the most part, only exacerbates this sensation. Bay and writer Ehren Kruger kick-start the demolition derby with a longish sequence that recasts America’s space program of the ‘60s and ‘70s as an actual race between the US and the Soviets to reach the dark side of the moon, where an alien spacecraft has crashed. (For the second time this summer, following his appearance in X-Men: First Class, footage of John F Kennedy gets mixed with newly shot footage that embroils that president in science fiction fantasy.) What astronauts Buzz Aldrin — who later appears as himself — and Neil Armstrong brought back from Drew Barrymore A still from the film Transformers: Dark of the Moon. that dark side suddenly becomes vitally important to the saving of the planet now that the bad robots’ invasion is under way. Which brings the movie back to its perennial hero, Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky, who has a secret medal from the president for saving the world but can’t get a job in Washington, DC What he does have is the town’s hottest girlfriend in Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Carly. Bay has her pirouette any number of times before the camera in any number of fetching outfits to drive home this point. There’s a lot of misplaced and misfired comedy about Sam’s jobhunting with an over-the-top John Malkovich finally hiring him and about his increasing concerns about the attention paid to Carly by her boss, played by Patrick Dempsey, who seems out to match Malkovich in the mugging department. Not to be outdone are John Turturro and Frances McDormand, whose attitudes can be characterized as this: If you’re going to be in a movie with robots, you might as well act circles around them. Chew the scenery before the action figures destroy it is their motto. DC takes quite a licking — the poor Lincoln Memorial does not survive, it must be reported, and the Beltway is left in tatters. But Bay reserves near-total destruction for Chicago. The Battle for Chicago lasts for nearly a third of the movie. Or so it seems. Buildings crumble, streets buckle, humans incinerate, machines collapse and alien airships blast away at whatever is left. What never makes any sense, though, is how LaBeouf and his hardy band of humans survive any of this. They emerge from sequence after sequence of utter chaos in full makeup with hardly a hair out of place. Talk about your action figures. It was during this final battle that the 3D went badly out of focus, which might be a case of the poor projector getting overheated by the nonstop noise and pandemonium. As mentioned, machines and people switch sides and transform loyalties with considerable frequency. It’s telling that a viewer isn’t going to much care. You’re not heavily invested emotionally in these robots, and only the survival of LaBeouf and his hot girlfriend seems to interest the filmmakers. Machines grinding and slicing their way through the Chicago downtown cityscape and one building cut nearly in half and tilting like that tower in Pisa are the money shots for Bay. The kitchen sink, if you will. The millions of man hours put into producing this techno shock and awe must be staggering. Everyone got his job done, but somewhere along the way, the movie got lost. No item number in Eega: Rajamouli ACE Mollywood director Laljose is said to have made a master casting for his new movie Spanish Masala. The reports suggest that Laljose has already met Amy Jackson, the famous British model and has made her agree to be part of the film, playing Dileep’s heroine. The movie which tells the love story between a Malayali youngster and a Spanish girl, is scripted by Benny P Nayarambalam. Amy who has already made a mark in Indian films, had made her debut in Tamil films through the Arya starrer Madirasipattanam. A GOSSIP made rounds in the Film Nagar that Kajal Agarwal had agreed to do a special song in SS Rajamouli’s latest film Eega and it would be a highlight of the film. However, Rajamouli refuted those gossips and made it clear that Eega was an experimental film with an animated character of a housefly playing the title role. The director took it as a challenge to make a successful film without any top artists with established image. Rajamouli tweeted, ‘There is no truth in the rumour that Kajal is doing an item number in Eega. There are no item songs in Eega. It is a baseless rumour.’ Nani and Samanta are playing the lead roles and Sudeep is playing a negative role in the film which is being made with a whopping budget with a major share of funds allocated for special effects. AMY JACKSON SS RAJAMOULI I was misunderstood: Kajal Agarwal TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK CTRESS Kajal Agarwal whose remarks in Mumbai that ‘she never considered herself a South actress’ sparked off a controversy. After an English daily in Hyderabad broke the news on her statements, South Indian film fraternity lashed out against her and demanded her apology. Many directors even asked the South Indian film chamber to ban her from South. Shocked at the reaction, Kajal claimed that she didn’t mean to offend South film makers or the industry. She clarified that the journalist in Mumbai misunderstood her and therefore there was a ‘miscommunication’. Talking to a few media personnel she said that she will continue to do South films and she likes this industry a lot. We are yet to see how South Indian directors and producers react to her clarification. Kajal Agarwal A Vijay (left) and Deepika Padukone. Vijay - Deepika in A R Murugadoss film? TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK T’S almost official, that Vijay will start working with A R Murugadoss after completing work with Velayudham and Nanban. And to play heroine, the team seems to have approached Deepika Padukone, who is making her K-town debut through Superstar Rajinikanth-starrer, Rana. However, we can’t be sure if Deepika will give her nod for this flick as Rana will soon go on floors keeping her busy. “Both Vijay and Murugadoss wanted to work together for a longtime now and it is becoming I a reality now. The film will be in typical style of Murugadoss and at the same time will satisfy Vijay fans,” say sources. While the actor is currently busy shooting for Velayudham and Nanban, the director is giving finishing touches to 7am Arivu, the Suriya-starrer. “The Vijay-Murugadoss combo will start their new venture by the end of this year,” they add. Buzz is that Muruagadoss has politely turned down an offer to direct Akshay Kumar for a Hindi film, for the sake of this Vijaystarrer. In the meantime, the director is also busy with his maiden production venture Engeyum Eppodhum.
