Term 4 Week 1 Newsletter
Welcome back everyone to what promises to
be a fantastic final term of the year. Please
regularly check the calendar in our newsletter
and on the website so you don’t miss any of the
excitement.
School Fete 19 October
This will be a very enjoyable day and will
commence at 9am and finish at 2pm. I hope to
see as many children, parents, relatives and
community members on the day. I know that the
Fete committee have been working long and
hard to make this a successful day. I believe
tickets for the raffle have gone home along with
a drawing competition. Thank you in advance if
you have assisted in any way. All funds raised
go directly back to supporting your children and
the school. Please read the P&C section in this
newsletter for further information.
NAPLAN Parent Letters
I anticipate we will send parent letters home
early next week. Students in Years 3 and 5 sat
these assessments in early Term 2. If you would
like to discuss any of the results I would invite
you to communicate with your child’s classroom
teacher to find a mutually convenient time to
meet.
Dance Eisteddfod
I thought our three dance groups were
tremendous. They obviously enjoyed their
performances at the Glasshouse Theatre. The
Stage 1 group received third place and the
Stage 2 and 3 groups were awarded Highly
Commended. Congratulations boys and girls.
Thank you to Mrs Dignum, Miss Hollis and Mrs
Rock for giving up your time so freely to support
our children.
New Cricket Nets
This exciting addition to our school is under
construction at present. Children for many years
to come will benefit from this. Thank you to our
P&C for coordinating the nets.
Busways Information
Transport NSW requires a new application form
for free travel from students who commence
Year 3 in 2014.
Busways has sent a letter and application to all
Year 2 students currently attending WPS.
Please return these completed forms to the
school front office.
If you require any further information please
contact Busways on 9497 1800.
Opera House Choir
At present our choir are having last minute
rehearsals in preparation for their performance
at the Sydney Opera House in the NSW Public
School Choral Festival. It will be an experience
that they will never forget. Thank you to Mrs
Brassey and Mrs Dignum for all their time and
effort with our lovely choir. A huge thank you to
the Wauchope Loins Club for their Lamington
Drive.
WPS Child Road Safety
Please abide by the traffic signs around our
school. The two zones at the front of the school
on Waugh Street are drop and kiss zones. You
must be within 2 metres of your car before and
after school. Unfortunately, some parents are
parking and leaving their cars. This defeats the
purpose of a fast and convenient drop and kiss
zone. With over 650 students at our school we
all need to cooperate. Thank you in advance for
your cooperation with this matter.
Snakes Alive
This show will be held on Wednesday 23
October. The cost is $5. Please return envelope
with money and permission note to your class
teacher.
Headway Presentation
Students in Stage 3 attended a head injury
presentation yesterday. Thank you Mrs Gowan
for coordinating.
Sport
Congratulations to Piper T who has been
selected to represent the North Coast in cricket
this term.
Good luck to the boy’s Touch Football team.
They will play Ocean Shore PS in the North
Coast final on Monday 14 October.
Year 6 Note
Yesterday, I sent a note home to every Year 6
student
about
behaviour
and
attitude
expectations for their final term of primary
school. Please take time to read through the
letter and discuss it with your child. My wish is
that every Year 6 student finishes their primary
school years at WPS in a positive manner. We
all know they are capable of it. In some
instances it takes some extra time and effort
from the teachers and cooperation and support
from parents and caregivers. Thank you in
advance for your assistance.
P&C Meeting
There is a meeting commencing at 7pm this
evening in the school staffroom. All are welcome
to attend.

Lions Club Support for WPS - Thank you
Members of the Opera House (O/H) Choir and
their parents are celebrating the success of a
recent Lamington Drive. The drive’s success
was due almost entirely to the generosity and
hard work of the Wauchope Lions Club.
Organiser for the Lions, Greg Cavanagh and
O/H Choir Parent Group representative, Shauna
Gresham worked together to co-ordinate the
ordering, making and distribution of more than
200 dozen lamingtons and raised $2500.00.
The Lions Club
decided
to
support our O/H
Choir, following
a letter sent to
the club by one
of
our
choir
members. The
letter requested
some support on
behalf of our
school and the
O/H Choir. When Greg Cavanagh approached
us to discuss the Lions Club’s suggestion of a
Lamington Drive, we were overwhelmed and
delighted with their offer.
On the appointed day almost 20 Lions
volunteers gathered at the Showground Hall
from 6am and worked through the day until early
afternoon to make, pack and deliver the ordered
lamingtons. What a wonderful effort!
We want to thank each and every Lions member
who may have had some involvement with this
fundraising venture. All funds raised have
benefitted all O/H Choir members by reducing
the overall cost of this excursion.
It is always an honour and reflection of our
school’s excellence, when our ‘cultural’ groups
are selected to perform at such events as The
NSW Choral Festival at the Opera House or The
NSW Schools Spectacular but the financial
burden is usually carried by individual families.
The staff, children and parents of WPS always
appreciate the support and commitment made
by our local service clubs, like Lions and Rotary,
to our school community.
Cindy Dignum on behalf of WPS O/H Choir
PS- From all reports (and personal “quality
control”) the lamingtons were the most delicious
many had tasted in years. (Just ask Mr Osborne)
Yummo!!!!
