* Thanks to your donations at m.a.r.y.’s day, we have the funds to start our website!!
much gratitude for m.a.r.y.’s day 2014!
To all of our generous supporters:
We want to thank each and every one of you for
making m.a.r.y.’s day 2014 a huge success!
The day started with a
“traditional” drumming
circle, featuring Krickett and
Roberto Gutierrez… and
spotlighting several of the
children as “leaders” in the
rumble!
Frank Gerrish of Fat Studio Los Angeles, led the kids in
some impromptu expressive exercises.
Looks like they
all had a great
time!
Tess Damon
conducted an art
workshop and the children created imaginative
sculptures from a hodge-podge of materials.
Block cars were uniquely
decorated and raced with help
from Bubba, Merari, Niko and
Natalie.
The ladies also helped make
some creative puppets with
socks, feathers, foil stems,
and other doo-dads!
Ver-r-r-y interesting!
(Continued on page 2)
Although attendance was down this year, due in
part (we believe) to starting so early in the day, we still
had a nice turn out. Many of you have sports
commitments this time of year, and we overlooked that
in our planning. We had some late comers who were
disappointed at missing all the fun, but we compensated
by providing the children with goodie bags! Yet even
with the lower attendance, we raised over $900 this
year, almost double last year’s donations (thanks to
some very generous people!). Next year, we plan to go
back to a mid-afternoon start time… and hope you can
all plan to be there on Saturday, September 26, 2015!
We would like to thank our many corporate
sponsors, including: REMO, Menchie’s, Mr. Flav, Trader
Joe’s, Brunswick

appearance.
And if, inadvertently,
we have forgotten to
mention anyone by name,
please accept our apologies
and gratitude as well!
Krickett, could not have
done any of this without the
love, help and support of her
husband, Richard, aka Bubba,
and her two boys, Jaivin and
Sterling—ramp builders,
decorators, artists, and all
around handy people!
Liz would like to extend a special thank you to

an art affair — eat, drink and be m.a.r.y.
This program consists of three art workshops, one each in December, January and February, and a dress rehearsal,
culminating in an Art Exhibit – gallery opening style, with an hors d’oeuvre buffet and mock champagne! – and a musical
presentation by the children on March 7, 2015. Although we would encourage and would appreciate a commitment to
the whole program (five Saturdays), children are welcome to participate in any or all of the workshops.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Eat, drink and be m.a.r.y. event on March 7, 2015.
Art and a New Year
Saturday, December 6, 2014
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
18013 Duncan Street, Encino
Children will express their dreams and hopes for the new year using a variety of
artistic mediums. Each child will have the opportunity to create two pieces – one to
take home, and one for the exhibit/auction at the Eat, drink and be m.a.r.y. event in
March. Proceeds from the sale of artwork will go to the m.a.r.y. foundation.
Art and Music
Saturday, January 10, 2015
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
18013 Duncan Street, Encino
In fellowship with another non-profit, children get to decorate an instrument – either a
drum or shaker – and learn to play it with music. There is a fee for this workshop to cover the
cost of the drum/shaker. Children are invited to display their instruments at the Eat, drink and
be m.a.r.y event, and will have the opportunity to perform for our guests.
Art and Etiquette
Saturday, February 7, 2015
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
18013 Duncan Street, Encino
This workshop will consist of creating imaginative centerpieces and decorations – one to take home and one to share/auction at Eat, drink and be m.a.r.y.
Proceeds from the sale of artwork will go to the m.a.r.y. foundation. Children
will learn how to make introductions, how to set a buffet table, and how to serve.
They will be able to show off their skills at the Eat, drink and be m.a.r.y. event.
Dress Rehearsal
Saturday, February 28, 2015
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
18013 Duncan Street, Encino
The “dress rehearsal” afternoon will give the children an opportunity
to practice making introductions, setting the table, and rehearse a musical
number for the Eat, drink and be m.a.r.y. event. A chef and a musician may
be on hand to facilitate the rehearsal.
Eat, drink and be m.a.r.y. - Workshop Culmination
Saturday, March 7, 2015
Time and Location are
yet to be determined.
Children and Parents, friends and family, are invited to this Art Exhibit and Silent
Auction of the children’s unique and beautiful creations. Children will introduce their
parents to one another, serve refreshments, and provide musical entertainment with
their hand-painted instruments.
We will also be holding a bake sale and a raffle to raise additional funds for the
m.a.r.y. foundation.
We look forward to seeing you there!
