HOW TO HANDLE A BULLY
By, Cyndy Pickel
‘Cultivate Peace and Harmony with All’
-George Washington
With the possibility of improving myself, I chose to
attend a workshop at the Congress of Neighborhoods
on De-Escalating Explosive Encounters, Bullying &
Tense Situations. As I listened to the instructor, I
knew I could apply this lesson to many conflicts in my
world- real or Facebook. Most people don’t really
want to get into an argument, but sometimes we are
confronted by a bully. The bully can be aggressive
out of fear, frustration, or arrogance. We can ignore
the bully, but it won’t go away. We can’t be random
in our responses. We have to respond to every behavior to stop bad behavior. Not doing anything is
better than randomly responding, but neither will
change the bully’s behavior.

YOUTH PROGRAM DIRECTORY
The young people of our community often have
free time and get bored. This may be because the
parents work and the kids are on their own in the
hours after school, or they may just want to become involved in activities such as sports or social
activities.
The Reseda Neighborhood Council has created a
directory of activities that are available in our
community. This directory is found on the RNC
website, www.resedacouncil.org on the home
page.
The directory lists educational, sports and social
activities as well as child care that is available in
our community.
The contents are submitted to us and in no way
do we endorse particular activities. We list as
much information about them as is available, such
as name, type of activity, address, phone number,
email, website, Facebook as well as the age range
that they provide service for.

RESEDA NC EMERGENCY, DISASTER AND COMMUNITY SAFETY
COMMITTEE
The RNC’s Emergency Disaster and Community
Safety Committee is assembling an emergency
plan for our community to be prepared in case
a disaster of some sort strikes our community.
Should this happen, we cannot count on having
City, County, State or Federal aid in the short
term if a major disaster strikes.
YOU as an individual, as a family member, as a
neighbor, or a part of a business or business
center should have a plan in place should this
happen. Please contact the RNC’s emergency
committee at emergency@resedacouncil.org
to let us know about your plan.
