STAY CONNECTED WITH THE Sikeston Regional Chamber “Where Southern Hospitality Begins” JULY NEWSLETTER july 2014 Volume 4, Issue 6 In this issue STRATEGIC PLANNING KEEP COLOR AND RUN ON NEW MEMBERS FIND OUT WHO’S GOT SPIRIT SIKESTON CORPORATE GAMES 2014 SJBR Page 2 Page 3 strategic PLAN The Board of Directors and Staff at the Sikeston Regional Chamber are constructing a short and long-term strategic plan. We have enlisted the expertise of an external consultant to help us identify our strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to better represent the Sikeston regional business community. Our fundamental goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of SRC in helping our members and the local business scene grow. We hope to develop a specific road map for the future direction of the Chamber throughout the region. Currently, we are working to strengthen our mission statement to address the economic needs of a regional and national business association. The SRC aspires to be a positive influence in the expansion of new and existing business and individuals within the Sikeston region. Ultimately, the foundation of the Chamber is to promote economic development, membership, and to create conditions where our individual members and businesses are encouraged and inspired to succeed. Corporate Sponsors KEEP COLOR AND RUN ON 2014 RODEO RUN Back by popular demand, the 2014 5K Run/Walk theme will be KEEP COLOR AND RUN ON, a tribute to the famous Color Run. Runners will be showered with colored powder at every kilometer in this all out happy, colorful event. Last year’s run brought over 200 participants and a variety of sponsors in an attempt to promote a healthy and active lifestyle in the community. SRC is excited to partner with regional sponsors including, Allen Home Care, ESI.comm, First State Bank and Trust, Focus Bank, Grant Financial, Missouri Delta Medical Center, Mitchell Insurance, Montgomery Bank, Orgill, Pepsi and Randy’s RX! SIKESTON CORPORATE GAMES Sikeston Corporate Games within the City of Sikeston Parks & Recreation Department wrapped up Saturday, June 28 at the Sikeston Complex with events of Olympic proportion. This year’s field of employers included 14 teams over approximately 16 events. Several area companies that participated were: Alan Wire; Bootheel Counseling Services; City of Sikeston; DeWitt Company; Health Facilities Rehab; NewWave Communications; Orgill, Inc.; Sikeston Public Schools; Southeast Correctional Center; Tetra Pak Materials; and Wal-Mart, just to name a few. The City of Sikeston has hosted Corporate Games for the past 20 years and encourages any community oriented company to participate in the (friendly) competitive events. Corporate Games offer local companies a good opportunity for internal team building and company pride (not to mention a little fun and exercise!) Contests ranged from physical events such as basketball and volleyball to mental events in the form of a trivia contest and strategic events like horseshoes and billiards. Special Congratulations go out to Orgill, Inc. for placing first overall in the standings and DeWitt Company for receiving the outstanding Sportsmanship Award.
