AwardsProgram
In order to promote friendly competition among riders the Queen City Dressage
Circuit holds a year end awards program. These awards are presented at a banquet held in
the Greater Cincinnati area in December. Awards are given for points accumulated during the
show season at QCDC recognized dressage shows, provided the entry blank for each show is
correctly filled out (
check the QCDC box).
QCDC maintains the standards required by the USEF & USDF. All rule books from
these organizations are available online. Competitors and trainers are responsible for knowing
these rules as they apply to sanctioned shows.
QCDC Show Cancellation Policy:
Riders are encouraged to complete show requirements for that year as early as
possible in case a cancellation occurs. For 2016 we are requiring a minimum of 4 shows at
3 different locations. The QCDC board expects that its “member” barns will not cancel their
QCDC sanctioned shows. However, if a cancellation/rescheduling does occur due to weather
conditions, unplanned events, or any other situation that is beyond QCDC’s control, QCDC will
not be held responsible.

Year End Eligibility
The same horse/rider combination must show to
QUALIFY at a minimum of 4 shows at 3 different member
locations. A horse/rider combination must:
1) Ride no more than 2 consecutive levels at a show (USDF, USEF
Rulebooks DR119.2). Competitors and trainers should review the USEF
Guidelines on the Welfare of the Horse in the 21st Century, especially
Section II. G. 1-3. Those competitors preparing for USDF/USEF shows
should review the current drugs and medications rules.
2) Points will be given according to scale below only to 6th place.
One participation point awarded to each place after 6th place.
3) In addition to High Point totals YEA awards, a High Percent
Award is given for the single highest percentage (%) score at a division
level.
4) YEA given to 6 places. Riders are responsible for checking point
totals.
5) Have a current negative Coggins test to present at every show.
☛Rider must mark the correct box on Entry Form if scores are to count
toward Year End Awards.
QCDC uses the USDF Freestyle tests. If sufficient entries warrant,
a Training Level MFS award will be given. A freestyle at any level requires
movements from the highest test of the level. Riders are responsible for
downloading and reading the current USDF score sheet.

Example:
3 riders - 3 pts. for 1st, 2 pts. for 2nd, 1 pt for 3rd.

We would like to thank
our 2016 Advertisers!
Calligraphic QCDC logo horses are stylized by the free-hand
pen of Leopardo Antonozzi, who lived in Italy about 1650 A.D.
At this time the Classic Masters (ecuyers) Menou de
Charnizay, Pierre de la Noue, Jaques de Solleysel and
Gaspard Saunier were active in Continental riding academies.
The type of horse is the Neopolitan equine of Antonozzi’s Italy.
Françoise Robichon de la Gueriniérè was 70 years in the
future and the Spanish Riding School of Vienna was still nearly
a century away.
“Dressage” comes from dresser, “to position”.
A raised poll and lowered hindquarters were considered an
essential foundation for classical collected exercises.
A later type of horse accompanied the introduction of
extended movements and flying changes of leg at the canter
into the “dressage school”.
The current richness of dressage sport and
art is a reflection of its long international history.

ADVANCE & DIGITIZE your gymnastic schooling for:
• Half halt aids for all six basic dressage transitions, maintaining lightness with straightness in contact
• Performing voltes, circles and pirouettes in exact tempo & with balance while bending
• Gait extensions & collection using core body & seat aids
• Deep stretches at walk and trot
• Piaffe in hand and mounted: developing passage and flying changes
• Exercises for horse and rider position performing Standard, Gaited & Western Dressage
• Test riding strategies with emphasis on bending & lateral work
Transition Analysis is useful with SloProTM or other slow motion software on a mobile device.
Excellent “in the moment” for schooling and instruction videos. BELOW: Video frames showing
Rosita on free longe at walk to canter and canter to trot. Rosita’s transitions were schooled
on the free longe and under saddle. They are level, fluent and prompt with a trained, straight
horse. Free longe offers proof that balance & coordination are understood independent of rider.

Suggestions For Advertisers
1) Image size for ads are 7.7 inches high and 4.7 inches wide. Keep these proportions, please!
2) Try to have your ad in a file format that will print at a high resolution for best quality. The file
formats of TIF, PDF (hi res), are acceptable, but EPS files (Encapsulated PostScript) are preferred by page layout software in general use. GIF, & JPG are raster compression formats and
often yield poor results. Resolution (dpi or dots per inch) is important: 150 or 300 dpi will look
a whole lot better than web standard 72 dpi. Low resolution raster (pixel-based) files get seriously unlovely cases of the jaggies. Be wise and keep your original layered master documents
if there is a need to edit (usually Photoshop .psd files or Word .doc files). Remember, those of
you who have Word 2008 that NOT EVERYONE HAS SOFTWARE THAT CAN READ .docx
files! Alternative readable (legacy) formats are in a popup menu in your print dialog.
3) Ask your Omnibus consultants about print sizes and file formats if in doubt. Also ask about
font choices. Some novelty fonts print badly. There are three fonts on this page (Arial, Bickham
Script Multiple master and Lucida Calligraphic. This is to illustrate that you may lose your
graphic design visual joy if you use too many different serifed (Times New Roman), cursive
(Bickham Script) or novelty (Curlz) fonts. Non-serifed fonts (Arial) are easy to read and design
does not compete with legibility.
4) Remember that business cards with complicated logos may lose resolution (see #2 above)
and/or crispness when scanned or faxed. This means that small text, fine lines and pale grays
may actually disappear or become blurred in scans or subsequent re-sizing of your image file.
If need be, send your logo as a separate file so it can be sized without distortion to fit the ad
space. Make sure all contact information is current and clearly displayed.
5) Contrast of gray scale images should be kept high enough so there are clear differences in
the parts of an image. In the engraving from Ecole de Cavalerie above, there are black blacks
and white whites. Background textures create visual hash. The Digital Goddess reserves the
right to alter layouts to keep resolution and visual balance.
The Digital Goddess.

3. Know your dressage USDF/USEF Rule Books for correct tack, appropriate/safe riding attire (especially head gear), and procedures. It is the rider’s
responsibility to know the USEF, USDF, and USEA and QCDC rules. This
includes rules for show dress, saddlery/bits and conflicts of interest among
judges, technical delegates, students, organizers, secretaries. Last minute
changes can affect these relations, so be sure to check with management
at the time you pick up your show packet.
4. If you have any questions, ask the show management.
5. Always let the gatekeeper know when you are in the warm up arena and
that you are available for your ride time. Have correct exhibitor number.
6. If you are unable to show in your scheduled class(es), please let the
gatekeeper and/or secretary know as soon as possible.
7. When you are riding in a crowded schooling area, pass LEFT shoulder
to LEFT shoulder to avoid collisions! LOOK before you TURN or STOP your
horse. Outside track is for working horses: slower or walking horses stay to
the inside of the track.
8. Please, no phone entries. List all classes, including Courtesy Classes.
9. Volunteer! It’s the best way to understand how a dressage show works.
Volunteering helps management keep your entry fees LOW.
10. If riding a courtesy test (USEF 2013 Rider Test, NWHA Gaited
Dressage or USEF Western Dressage, bring 2 copies to the show.
IT IS GREAT TO BE APPRECIATED!
11. The management worked hard to organize the show for you, help them
by leaving their facility as clean as when you arrived.
12. When you are ready to leave the show parking area, clean up around
your trailer for hay, manure, papers, and other materials.
13. Remember to smile and have a good time with your horse and your
friends. Have a safe trip home.
