1. General conditions of our Work Camp Project
All our projects cooperate with a national based NGO, in the case of the work camp we offer the NGO is
Fundación Tomillo.
1) Number of Volunteers, Duration & Location
- AIPC Pandora hosts 15 international volunteers on the work camp.
- Duration of the project is from 8th to 21st August 2016.
- Location: It is an organic farm of 29.5 hectares on the banks of the river Tiétar. The nearest town is
Villanueva de la Vera. The meeting point for volunteers could be established in Oropesa de Toledo,
which can be reached by train and once there, a responsible for the farm will pick up the volunteers.
2) Project Coordinator
- The project has 1 coordinator who is trained by AIPC Pandora and Fundación Tomillo. He/She will not
constantly stay at the farm but there will be a continous contact by phone.
3) Accommodation & Food
- Accomodation is at the farm where the work camp takes place.
- Accomodation in tents, there are a kitchen and bathrooms; bringing a sleeping bag is convenient.
- Participants are responsible for keeping the accommodation clean during the project.
4) Free Time
- Participants are responsible for organizing their own free time with camp leaders in holiday. Host
organization will advise volunteer with information of local attractions.
5) Insurance
- AIPC Pandora provides insurance for accidents only during the project (No dental clinic, illness, 3rd
party’s liability compensation.Therefore, Participants MUST bring their own insurance for health,
travel and the 3rd party’s liability compensation. More details about the policty will be provided when

participants enrollment
6) Transportation
- All participants are advised to arrive at Madrid, Adolfo Suarez Airport. The group meeting point will be
in Oropesa de Toledo, which can be reached by train from Madrid and once there, a responsible for the
farm will pick up the volunteers.
7) Participation Fee
- There is a participation fee of 300 euros per participant. The fee includes among other aspects:
insurance of volunteers, orientation upon arrival and coordination 24x7, evaluation and program
development, board and lodging, travel to the planned activities and collaboration of a professional to
train volunteers in the use of agricultural machinery.
8) General Qualifications
- All volunteers are required to speak English or Spanish.
- Participants should be motivated and be open-minded to the Spanish culture such as manners and
foods.
- Generally, participants between age 18 and 30 can be accepted.
- Volunteers should understand that this is NOT a vacation trip neither cheap travelling.
- No illegal drugs in Spain.

It is a life experience, living and working in a farm, with international volunteers and the local people in chaege,
located in one of the richest biodiversity rural areas of Spain.
About 2 months ahead, the information sheet is sent by the incoming organization to the outgoing organization
to be delivered to the volunteers who were accepted to join by both organizations. It contains following

Information about the local culture, traditions and lifestyles
will provide the volunteers a first reference framework
about the characteristics of the area where they will live
during their stay in the farm.
Learning and recreational activities.
Learning, we aim the participants to acquire a better
understanding of environmental related matters and their
personal training (sessions about soil, crop, bird observation,
training in emotional ecology etc.) With recreational
activities, we try and achieve a good social climate and group
cohesion, besides group approach to cultural heritage of the
area (Visit to Castro Celta, trekking excursions, workshops,
activities on sociability, festivals…)

Working clothes (clothes that can be harmed by working)

Phone number of farm responsible will be given to
volunteers, available 24 hours.
Orientation
On arrival, participants will get a short orientation and introduction to the program.
First aid
Our project leader has a first aid training.
Insurance
Accident insurance for the development of the activity is arranged, the details will be with the farm responsible.
In addition there is an emergency plan of the farm on a permanent basis

Overall Project goal
Conservation and sustainable use of the existing riverbank woodland together with building small
infrastructures to improve the deteriorated areas and setting up small temporary constructions to allow

carrying out educational activities of environmental awareness
and reencounter with the essence of Nature.
Specific goals
1.- Set the parameters of intervention in the existing woodland area.
2.- Design and implement the necessary actions to contribute to the better conservation of the area.
3.- Develop small infrastructures / activities to improve the ecological stability of the target area.
4.- Setup temporary infrastructures which enable the use of space for teaching purposes related to
the environment
5.- Collaboration between people from different areas, in the group activities with other groups
coming from Fundación Tomillo
Project activities
A series of activities for the conservation and use of existing woodland are set as follows.
Listed activities are not necessarily in chronological order since the sequence can be changed depending on the
needs and requirements of each moment.
1.- Environmental study of the area: soil situation in the area and phytosanitary status of existing specimens.
Determine the degree of intervention in order to keep the ecological balance, preventing unwanted
deforestation. Figuring out subsequent conservation actions.
2.- Cleaning up the forest
2.1.- Elimination of fallen tree specimens: There are currently a large number of specimens that for
various reasons are fallen into the area of operation, those will be eliminated, for which the cutting and
withdrawal from the area becomes necessary by mechanical means to a storage area. Once in this area,
best destination has to be decided; to grind and return them to the site of operation in order to improve
the soil by crushing wood, biomass production destination, burning and use of ash as possible fertilizer etc.
To carry out this activity, a trained professional in the field will instruct the volunteers to execute the tasks,
since they need to use professional machines and tools (s.a. chainsaws, saws cut etc ...).
2.2.- Marking: A selection of specimens that, due to its phytosanitary status are recommended to be
eliminated, will take place. As a result, a sanitized area is achieved within certain environmental
parameters.
2.3.- Felling and removal of marked specimens: The same procedure as in 2.1 will follow, resulting in the
elimination of prior marked specimens.
2.4.- Intervention in areas of shrubs: As with the tree species, the first step will be to remove those
areas of shrubs that are dry or with a unfeasible phytosanitary status, as well as those areas that have
been encroaching on undesired spaces.

2.5- Delimitation of areas of shrubs whose sanitary status is optimal, it will consist of cutting and
delimitation of the spaces that will be occupied by those species within the global space.
It is important to consider the fact that these spaces are commonly used for small fauna, so a good
management of them is essential.
It is also essential to consider that although the area of intervention originally belongs to the farm, there is
a regulation that determines two areas of public use with regards to river beds, therefore the forestry
authority in the area should be kept informed of all actions carried out.
2.6 - Bonded zone of five meters wide margins of the channel, located within the restricted water area,
reserved for surveillance purposes, fishing and rescue.
2.7- Restricted water area consists of a space of one hundred meters wide on each side, starting from
the line marking the maximum level of the channel, in which land use and activities developed therein, are
conditioned by what it is.
3.-. Improving the area called "arroyo Braceta”: This proposal is one of the possible improvements that can
be carried out in the area of action, being open to any proposal, only if it involves the sustainability of the space.
This stream, a small tributary of the river, at times of maximum flood, collects the excess water, producing the
flood of a large area, around 3 hectares. During rainy season, the force of water causes the removal of much of
the vegetation generated. To establish small natural dams is proposed, possibly by using wood from the
eliminated trees, giving use to these ones and enabling to reduce the water velocity, in order to substantially
reduce uprooting vegetation and increase sedimentation index, which may eventually allow recovery of the
area and its incorporation into the forest.
4.- Improvement and promotion of associated fauna. Adequacy of landscape for enhancing life of some of
the native populations; creating nesting areas, transfer of anthills etc...
5.- Setup temporary infrastructure to enable the realization of educational activities within the forest
Taking into consideration the characteristics of space, which is an organic farm, subject to the restrictions laid
down by the regulations listed above, our proposal would be to build one or several platforms whose design
enables an easy assembly and disassembly, what would qualify as "temporary buildings". The structure will use
recycled materials, such as wood pallets or similar materials whose clamping mechanism does not involve
modification of the land, but through the possibilities of the environment, wired to healthy tree specimens.
The ultimate goal of these buildings is to use them for group learning activities, which fall within the main
activities developed by Fundación Tomillo, whose mission is to contribute to changing our society positively,
helping people in difficult situations to improve their lives and their community, encouraging people to develop
their potential and seeking to improve their living conditions and their environment, through education and
employment as fundamental tools.
6.- Collaboration in the organization of recreational educational activities carried out by groups that are
doing other activities in Fundación Tomillo.

It will consist of providing support to professionals who accompany
various groups that from
Fundación Tomillo moves to the farm in order to carry out activities.
For the first workshop, forest cleaning will be the activity to be developed and specifically cutting
and collecting fallen tree specimens.
