We have been very busy making menu changes, scheduling employees etc. We are trying to incorporate some new things to bring some more “FUN” to our club. This, of course, takes time and effort. I know that many people do not like change. That’s human behavior. I would like to say thank you to everyone for making the Installation Dinner Dance a “Beautiful Evening”. When I walked in, I was overwhelmed with excitement. I hope that whoever attended had a great evening too. At our general meeting on June 20th, we filled the empty positions of Secretary, Treasurer and Board Member. Anita Sanguinetti will be our Secretary, Al Saccavino will be our Treasurer, and Bob Thomas will be our new Board Member. There will be no elections necessary at our July meeting. The secretary will cast ONE vote. Thank you Anita, Al and Bob and welcome aboard. Once again a reminder, NO SHORTS ON FRIDAY NIGHTS -- NO EXCEPTIONS! We have some exciting social events coming up in July and August. I encourage you to attend these functions. Many people help put these together every time. It would be great to have a “full” ballroom again! GOOD NEWS! Jenny Martin and Claudia Miller came forward to take over the POT OF GOLD. The next POG will be collected starting July . It will be for 4 months instead of 3 just this one time to even out the quarter year. THE CLUB WILL BE CLOSED ON JULY 4TH. Enjoy the day. In closing, I want to thank Tomme Mayne who has been our Treasurer for 2 years. He did a phenomenal job for our club. And I want to thank ALL our volunteers who work so diligently for our club. Johnny had the role of Paulie Gatto, who was “whacked”, for leaking information of the whereabouts of Don Corleone. The scene is rather memorable particularly because of, “Leave the gun, take the cannoli.” Mr. Martino is an actor and singer born (May 5, 1937) and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He began his career as a teenager and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Universal Art Studios. This led him to a role in an off-Broadway show. He also had a hit song called “Baby Sitting Baby” which led to an appearance on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. From there he went to Hollywood. The weekend of June 9th, 2012 Johnny appeared at the Flagler County Library, for a thirty minute presentation, a book signing, and a film clip of a, as yet to debut, production. His presentation covered his life as an actor and singer, his meeting up with many stars and well-known hoods, his Sicilian origins, and an introduction to his parents. He is one of nine children, being the last-born child of the family. In 1947, his parents traveled to Italy and took him and his brother Charlie along. They spent a year in Italy spending much time in Palermo from where they originated. At the time, Italy was recovering from the war and the shoeless street children made an everlasting impact, such that today one of his charitable-concerns regards children having shoes. He has been back to Italy a number of times. Since he is a singer, he entertained, the well-attended event, with a solo rendition of the Neapolitan song, Mala Femmina, afterwards he extolled the beauty of Neapolitan music. Accompanying Johnny was his wife Lori, and biographer, Richard Lester, who published a book, “The Wish Beyond the Stars, The Johnny Martino Story.” This was available at the book signing, along with CDs of his music. Other paraphernalia related to the movie, The God Father, were on sale too. Such items as auto license tag frames, key chains, and bookmarks. The event ended with a viewing of the first Godfather trilogy of films.
