“The mission statement is to strengthen and support our community by promoting business growth and economic development.”
Vol. 19, No. 1
A Publication of the Farragut / West Knox Chamber of Commerce
It is hard to believe that 2005 has come and gone. Hopefully
the year was filled with many highlights and few lowlights.
The chamber enjoyed a very successful year thanks to all
of the volunteers who gave of their time and spirit. Over 100
new members were welcomed into the chamber this past
year. Thanks to all of those who were sponsors to the chamber’s major events this year as well as those who opened up
their businesses for either a morning coffee or evening networking event!
Now, look out 2006…The year started off without pause
with a Breakfast Speaker Series featuring Dr. Jeff Wadsworth,
ORNL. Thanks to the sponsors for the event: Gold-Cariten
Healthcare; Silver, First Tennessee; and Bronze, Resource
Accounting (story will follow in Feb. edition). Three more
breakfasts are scheduled for this year. March 28th, Jim
Nixon, Turkey Creek Land Partners; August 15th, Dr. Bill
Bass, Forensic Anthropologist, University of Tennessee; and
November will be announced any day!
The auction this year is themed, “Give My Regards to
Broadway” and the stage is already being set for May 12th.

Winter is here and cold weather has settled
in…sort of. Whether you are looking for activities
to enjoy the crisp, chilled air or would prefer the
warmth of live entertainment, Knoxville offers an
array of indoor and outdoor activities.
In the winter months, ladies are first in
Knoxville as the University of Tennessee Lady
Vols basketball team plays its season at Thompson
Bowling Arena. Known as the “winningest” program in the nation, the Lady Vols have won six
NCAA National Championships and are working toward another winning season. Visit
http://utladyvols.collegesports.com for more
information.
With its best team in five years, the UT men’s
basketball team is also playing for a winning season at Thompson Bowling Arena. For more
information on games and ticket prices, visit
www.utsports.collegesports.com.
If you want to see live, indoor sports but prefer
to feel a chill in the air, Knoxville’s own minor
league hockey team, the Knoxville Ice Bears, can
be found tearing up the ice at the Knoxville
Coliseum. Chilly, the Ice Bears mascot, is great
with kids and always ready to give a warm, friendly hug. Call 865-525-PUCK for more information.
If the thrill of the game leaves you cold,
Knoxville also offers live musical and theatrical
performances at a variety of venues. Broadway in
Knoxville, “Broadway’s best,” performs at the
Knoxville Civic Auditorium. The family owned
company brings in Broadway musicals, plays and
special attractions from around the world. Catch
“Miss Saigon” Feb. 25-27 and “Crazy for You”
dedicated to the Girls Fast Pitch Softball Program and are looking for businesses to help in the further development of these
facilities. If you or your business is interested in learning more
about this opportunity contacta Don Hutchenson, League
Commisioner at 966-0907, Jerome Moore, 599-0435 or Laura
Lee Sturgill at 966-5906.
The Farragut Intermediate School PTA proudly announces
the 3rd Annual Family Fun Night to be held at the school on
Friday, March 3, 2006. This fundraising event will include a
silent auction, food, games, contests, prizes and much more.
All proceeds will go towards playground equipment and
improvements for the 5th grade playground with the goal to
promote physical fitness. For more information on how your
business can help, contact Charlotte Jensen at 675-7649.

• Take into account that great love and
great achievements involve great risk.
• When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
• Follow the three R’s:
1. Respect for self
2. Respect for others
3. Responsibility for all of your actions
• Remember that not getting what you
want is sometimes a wonderful stroke
of luck.
• Learn the rules so you know how to
break them properly.
• Don’t let a little
dispute injure a
great relationship.
• When you realize
you’ve made a
mistake take
immedate steps to
correct it.
• Spend some time
alone every day.
• Open your arms to change, but don’t
let go of your values.
• Remember that silence is sometimes
the best answer.
• Live a good, honorable life. Then when
you get older and think back, you’ll be
able to enjoy it a second time.
• A loving atmosphere in your home is
the foundation for your life.
• In disagreements with loved ones, deal
only with the current situation. Don’t
bring up the past.
• Share your knowledge. It’s a way to
achieve immortality.
• Once a year, go someplace you’ve never
been before.
• Remember that the best relationship is
one in which your love for each other
exceeds your need for each other.
• Judge your success by what you had to
give up in order to get it.
Happy New Year to all!
