The 9th generation Civic brings four exciting
new models to the road, each one with individual
improvements. But they also share a horde of
common innovations.
For example, the clean, flowing lines of its ‘mono-form’
design re-invigorate the new Civic with a distinctively
futuristic look. And beneath its aerodynamic skin is a
stiffer chassis and re-engineered suspension settings,
providing the basis for a safer drive than ever before.
Because driving should be a simple pleasure.
And with its more precise steering and finer handling
that’s exactly what the Civic offers. But these aren’t
even its most impressive advancements.
Inside, its space age cockpit-style cabin shows off
clever new technologies like its intelligent MultiInformation Display (i-MID) System. As part of its
ergonomic design, the gauges you need most are
arranged around the i-MID in the most convenient
places. The same principle applies to the cabin
at large.
Large being the operative word, as its clever storage
spaces and roomier interior makes use of every inch.
All of these developments make the Civic an easy choice.
In fact the only difficult decision is which one is for you.
The ultra fuel efficient Civic Hybrid with a new LithiumIon (Li-ion) battery pack. Or the popular 1.6, the wellequipped 1.8 or the highly refined 2.0, that all include
a 5-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
No matter which you choose, your Civic will be the
source of driving joy today and long into the future.
The inside story.
Just by looking at the new Civic you can tell it’s unique.
But it’s the inside that truly makes it one of a kind.
In the cabin, the large centre console has an ample armrest
and storage area.
As you take a seat in the cockpit-style cabin, the
ergonomically arranged controls seem to wrap around
you. And there’s a method to this magic. Its advanced
instrument layout places key instrument displays and
controls where they’re easiest to engage.
In fact, there are clever compartments everywhere you look.
From the door panel’s built-in bins and bottle holders, to
the glove box and driver’s side pigeonhole.
This smart interface includes the new i-MID system.
Together with a 5 inch colour monitor they deliver realtime driving information without the need to shift your
gaze from the road.
The same principle applies to keep your hands on the
wheel, with transmission paddle shifters built-in to the
Civic’s leather trimmed, sporty 3-spoke steering wheel.
And thanks to its tilt and telescopic steering column, it
can be adjusted to your perfect height. As can the driver’s
seat, with its wide range of height adjustment control.
So there’s plenty of room to move. And that is not all.
Both front seats have been redesigned to offer more
support and comfort. While the flat rear floor provides
considerably more foot room in the back, the folding
rear back seats provide flexible options for boot cargo.
Now, an interior this cool should never be cold. That’s why
all models have an automatic climate control system with
an integrated air-filtration system so effective it removes
almost 100% of pollen particles. How do you like the sound
of that?
Not as much as its 160 watt audio system. Whether the
music’s coming from a CD, the auxiliary input jack or from
a device that is connected to its built-in USB port, you’ll
never be stuck with the sounds of silence again. Especially
not with its 4 or 6 speaker set up with Speed-sensitive
Volume Control (SVC).
With so much to offer, you could say the Civic is a
sound choice.
A 1-push start smart entry system is also standard (except
for the Civic 1.6 litre), providing much convenience and
prestige in Civic ownership!
It’s fun to drive.
A new Civic deserves an exciting new look.
So Honda’s engineers undertook extensive modelling and
testing to sculpt the most bold and aerodynamic Civic in
history. The design embodies a sophisticated flair –
blending its sporty character with day to day
practicality perfectly.
Every element of its structure improves performance, from
its excellent fuel efficiency, reduced emission levels,
high-speed stability to its quietly calm cabin. Like its acute
angled windshield and slender A-pillars, for instance, allow
for a more streamlined shape and provide a panoramic view.
And its low-drag side mirrors that smooth out turbulence,
reducing wind noise.
But those are just the obvious aspects. It also boasts a new
flat under-floor that allows re-directed air from the front
and rear spoilers, to move under the car with less resistance,
resulting in 3.4% less drag.
So the Civic really is as aerodynamic as its stunning coupelike styling suggests. And ready for you to get in and take
it for a spin. The trunk, too, seamlessly ties in with its
‘mono-form’ design.
So do the wheels. Each variant comes with a unique
aluminium wheel design: 15 inch on the Civic Hybrid, 16 inch
on the 1.6 and 1.8 models and a 17 inch on the Civic 2.0.
So you’re given plenty of inches to take many a mile in the Civic.

being green.
Honda Navigation System
ECO ASSISTTM
Except for the Civic 1.6 litre, a Honda Navigation
System is standard. The navigation system provides
touch screen operations and the popular GarminTM
navigation software. A reverse camera and a Bluetooth
Hands-free telephone system are also standard.
On all Civic models, Eco AssistTM provides real-time drive
information through the two “coaching bars” on the left
and the right of the digital speedometer. The coaching
bars progress from blue to blue-green or green and vice
versa depending on your driving style. Choose to drive in
green and the fuel efficiency of your new Honda Civic will
gradually improve.
i-MID
Communication is the key to any good relationship.
And that includes the one you have with your car.
That’s why all four Civic variants are equipped with
the intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID). This
5 inch LCD colour monitor conveys everything you
need to know about your car. From maintenance
reminders, warning information and fuel economy
drive aids!
But it’s not all so serious. It also displays album artwork
from your music collection and lets you upload your
own wallpaper, to really make it your own.
Real time links with the Honda Navigation System
also display Bluetooth handsfree operation as well
as Navi Guide information.
On the Civic Hybrid, switching the i-MID to “Eco Coaching”
gives you even more green drive information. The Eco
Drive Bar swings to the left and the right when you
accelerate or decelerate in an erratic manner. Drive
smoothly and you will begin to see leaves “grow” in the
intelligent Multi-Information Display. At the end of each
journey, you are given an ECO score, which is added to
your Civic Hybrid’s lifetime score.
In doing so, you’re creating fewer emissions, using less
fuel and saving money at the petrol station. But no matter
which model you choose, you’re always scoring points for
efficient driving in a new Civic.
ECON MODE
The ECON mode takes fuel efficiency of the new Civic
to a higher level.
So now it’s time to choose how to express yourself.
Don’t get the wrong idea, though. The Civic does what
you want, not the other way around.
So when maximising fuel economy is more desirable than
sporty performance, all you need to do is push the ECON
button and your Civic hears you. That’s when the ECON
system modifies the Civic’s behaviour to enhance its fuel
efficiency by reducing throttle sensitivity, lowering the
climate control load and reconfiguring the transmission.
So you won’t burn excess fuel or a hole in your wallet.
IMA
The new Civic Hybrid is powered by the Honda’s latest
generation Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system.
Comprising a 1.5 litre, 4-cylinder, i-VTEC engine connected
to a larger, more powerful electric motor and a Continuously
Variable Transmission (CVT), it performs familiar functions.
The engine switches between petrol and electric power
to achieve the best fuel-efficiency in any conditions.
Together with its all-new Li-Ion battery, this new IMA
system has a few new tricks up its exhaust pipe. Producing
a more powerful 110 horsepower at 5500 rpm, 174Nm of
torque between 1000-3500 rpm, with greater acceleration
at highway speeds and better fuel efficiency.
And you can keep an eye on it all because its new i-MID
screen includes a hybrid/power flow meter to keep you
informed of your driving efficiency and the
Civic’s performance.
So there’s never been a better time to bridge the
generation gap.

innovation and improvement.
And there’s no better example of that dedication than
the i-VTEC engine – the beating heart of every new
Civic model.
Its ability to marry exhilarating power with extreme
fuel-efficiency is a landmark feat of engineering.
With advancements in power, torque and economy in
both the Hybrid’s Continuously Variable Transmission
(CVT) and the 5-speed transmission of the 1.6, 1.8 and
2.0 litre models.
Now that’s something to really get the blood pumping.
The final word
on safety first.
If Honda engineers are adventurous in the factory, they’re
equally risk averse when it comes to safety.
So it stands to reason that the new Civic includes accident
prevention technology like Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)
that integrates with Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering
and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist.
But it also has a multitude of provisions in case of collisions.
For a start, each model comes with active head restraints,
pre-tensioners and load limiters for the front seats.
And they all include airbags too, with dual-stage, multiplethreshold front airbags in the 1.6 and 1.8 litre variants, the
same in the hybrid which also comes with front side airbags
with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection
System (OPDS). For extra protection the 2.0 boasts all
of these plus side curtain airbags.
So a Civic cabin is a decidedly safe place to be. That’s
due, in no small part, to Honda’s patented G-Control™
body structure (GCON™).
This impact absorbing system spreads force over the
front crash structures, ensuring maximum protection
in accidents with vehicles of varying bumper heights.
Its design even features injury mitigation structures
for pedestrians.
