PASTORAL CARE Please don’t forget to inform us if you are going to be
hospitalized so one of our priests can visit. Provide us with your name,
hospital, room number, phone number and, when possible, how long you
will be hospitalized. If you are unable to attend Mass, due to poor health,
illness or advanced age, please call so a Eucharistic Minister can bring
Communion to you. Anointing of the Sick may be requested because of
scheduled surgery or treatment for a life-threatening illness. Call us prior
to your surgery or treatment. Anointing of the Sick at Mass may be celebrated before you go into the hospital. Directly inform one of our priests or
call one of our Pastoral Administrators.

Religious Education News
Faith Formation Office: Registration for Religious Education Classes is taking place now
for the 2013-2014 school year.
A New Registration Form must be completed
for All Present Students as well as new students to our program.
Registration at the Faith Formation Office,
Monday thru Thursday 10a.m. - 2 p. m.
Tuition is $120 each for 1 or 2 children; 3 or
more children is $50 each. Cash or money order
only. NO PERSONAL CHECKS!
Anyone registering for the First Grade must present a copy of the Baptismal Certificate.
If someone is a member of another parish and
wishes to attend our program, a Release Form is
required from the other parish. Also, if the child
has already received a Sacrament from another
parish, we need a Certificate stating reception of

PROCESSIONE ANNUALE IN ONORE DI SAN ANTONIO
PER STRADE DELLA NOSTRA PARROCCHIA

Riflessione del mese di maggio
E in modo ancora più completo: nel Rosario «l'orante
contempla 15 misteri della vita del Signore; ma non in se
stessi, bensì visti attraverso il cuore di Colei che tra tutti gli
uomini Gli fu più vicina; e non con la semplice riflessione, ma
immerso nelle parole sempre ripetute dell'Ave Maria».
II nome Rosario, derivato dal latino medievale, significa
giardino di rose, mazzo di rose, ed è quel mazzo di rose
“spirituali” (perché fatte di preghiera) che si offrono alla Vergine
ogni volta che si rivolge a Lei il saluto dell'Angelo e di
Elisabetta: Ave, Maria, ... Rose, per così dire, non sciolte, ma
intrecciate a formare una elegante corona di 50, 100, 150, 200
rose “mistiche”.
Queste Ave, Maria sono dette rose, perché la rosa è il simbolo
della gioia, e l'Ave rinnova l'invito alla gioia, fatto a Maria
dall'Arcangelo Gabriele e da Elisabetta, per la venuta del
Messia.
Ad ogni Ave, Maria, la Vergine riprova la gioia del lieto
annuncio dell'Annunciazione.
Questo elemento “litanico” (cioè ripetuto 50, 100, 150, 200
volte) viene inoltre tramato sui misteri principali della vita di
Gesù, che la Madre di Gesù dovette contemplare con nel
cuore l'eco vivente del primo annuncio.
Gli elementi costitutivi del Rosario sono pertanto i seguenti: le
preghiere del Padre Nostro, Ave Maria e Gloria al Padre;
l'enunciazione e la meditazione di 20 misteri della vita di Gesù,
sentiti col cuore di Maria.
MARIA MEDIATRICE VERSO IL FIGLIO
Recitando il Rosario, penetriamo nei misteri della
vita di Gesù, che sono contemporaneamente i
misteri della sua Madre.
Il Rosario è una preghiera "riguardante Maria" unita
al Cristo nella sua missione salvifica; "a Maria", la
nostra migliore mediatrice presso il Figlio; che in
modo speciale recitiamo "con Maria", così come
pregavano insieme con Lei gli Apostoli nel
Cenacolo, preparandosi a ricevere lo Spirito Santo.
PREGHIAMO PER TUTTO IL POPOLO DI DIO
La preghiera del Rosario è preghiera dell'uomo per
l'uomo: è la preghiera della solidarietà umana,
preghiera collegiale dei redenti, che riflette lo spirito
e gli intenti della prima redenta, Maria, Madre ed
immagine della Chiesa.
Preghiera per tutti gli uomini del mondo e della
storia, vivi o defunti, chiamati ad essere con noi
Corpo di Cristo e a diventare con Lui coeredi della
gloria del Padre.
La nostra preghiera è per tutti cosicché, quando
preghiamo, non lo facciamo per uno solo, ma per
tutto il popolo, perché con tutto il popolo noi siamo
una cosa sola.
MESE DI MAGGIO, MESE DEDICATO A MARIA –
si ringraziano tutti coloro che durante il mese di
maggio hanno portato fiori bellissimi in chiesa
davanti alla statua della Madonna.
Nello stesso tempo il nostro cuore può racchiudere in queste
decine del Rosario tutti i fatti che compongono la vita
dell'individuo, della famiglia, della nazione, della Chiesa e
dell'umanità. Vicende personali e quelle del prossimo, e in
modo particolare di coloro che ci sono più vicini, che ci stanno
più a cuore. Così la semplice preghiera del Rosario batte il
ritmo della vita umana.

DOMINGO DE LA SANTISIMA TRINIDAD

Tomado de el libro “ La Palabra entre Nosotros” :
La Iglesia Celebra hoy la Solemnidad de la Santisima Trinidad . La
Iglesia asi mismo enseña que hay tres personas divinas que son
verdaderamente distintas una de la otra: El Padre, el hijo y el
Espiritu Santo. Tres personas distinas, no creadas y omnipotentes.
Este es el centro del misterio de la Iglesia católica y es la doctrina principal de enseñanza. Es
un misterio, por que como dice el Credo el Padre es Dios, el hijo es Dios y el Espiritu Santo es
Dios, sin embargo no son tres dioses distintos, sino un solo Dios, una sola revelación que Jesucristo nos presento al mundo entero.
Jesús no solo vino a revelarnos este misterio sino a ponernos en relacion con la Santisima
Trinidad, para esto fuimos purificados con su santisima Sangre y hemos de recibir la gracia
Santificante de ser templos vivos de esa Santisima Trinidad en el hogar de cada uno de

Remember When?
I recently wrote about Eugene Biancheri, a Saint Athanasius alumni who played in the school
band. The St. A’s band was known as The Fife, Bugle and Drums Band. Two other members of the
band were Arnie Giordano and Joe Oliva. Arnie played the flute and Joe the drums during the 1940’s.
One year, the band played at the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.
Many St. A’s alumni have gone on to very successful careers in healthcare, education, the religious life, entertainment and so-on. For example, Sal Ferrera was for many years President of Xaverian High School, Kathy LeDonni, Principal of P.S. 247, Artie Mattia Jr. also a Principal, Paul Iaccullo,
Chairman of the Committee for Special Ed for the NYC Board of Education, Peter Pasqua a successful
OB-GYN and the list goes on and on.
Perhaps the most famous of all Saint Athanasius alumni is Lou Ferrigno. Ferrigno attended St. A’s and graduated in 1965. He is known for his starring role in the hit T.V. series The Incredible Hulk. However it was professional bodybuilding that propelled Lou to stardom. He competed
in many competitions against many of the sports’ biggest stars namely the greatest bodybuilder of all
time and action movie superstar Arnold Schwarzenneger. Lou Ferrigno also trained with Arnold and
starred with him in the famous film “Pumping Iron” where it documented their careers and their road to
bodybuilding’s biggest stage Mr. Olympia. Lou was successful in his craft winning the IFBB Mr. America and IFBB Mr. Universe titles. More importantly, in the community of Bensonhurst he is known as an
individual who overcame the obstacle of a hearing loss at an early age and went on to achieve his
dream.

We will have two shows, one geared toward families and younger kids and then to older youth and

amazing night of celebration as the school yard and church will be transformed into a tremendous

league, with teams of all ages desired. Have

World Youth Day Fundraiser
There will be over 250 young pilgrims from the
Diocese of Brooklyn going to Brazil this summer
and we have close to 30 going with our Youth
Ministry Program. Please help them raise the
funds to be able to go and make this great spiritual journey! Barrels will be in the back of Church
each week and we ask that you be as generous
as possible. Please empty those change jars and
you can also write checks out to:

Also please try your best to support the different
events that will benefit the pilgrims directly.
The StARs Book Club will hold its next meeting on
Wednesday, May 29th at 7:30 PM in the Nazareth Institute.

The St. A’s Scouting Program meets every

Girls Summer Enrichment Camps
Come and catch the Kearney SPIRIT!! We invite all

Rosary Society
The Rosarians welcome all women of the Parish. The Society
is dedicated to the Blessed Mother, the growth of the love of
God through Mary. We honor the Blessed Mother by the constant and reverent praying of the rosary in our daily life.
We are involved in all Parish activities, liturgical and social –
and keep informed about civic community activities.
Spiritual activities include an Annual Retreat, Annual Communion Breakfast and Baby Shower for Unwed Mothers. The Society raises money to help our Church continue outreach efforts.
The fundraisers include: Christmas Fair, Basket Night, Chinese
Auction.
We attend the 10:00am Mass on the Third Sunday of the
month (except July & August) followed by a meeting & light
breakfast in the School.

Holy Name Society
New members are welcome to help with our community
service work. The Society is a spiritual organization, a fraternity of the Catholic Church, spreading devotion to the

The present Holy Name Society members dedicate themselves to corporal works in helping our Parish Organizations
and School, with various fundraising. The Holy Name meets
every second Sunday of each month (after the 10 a.m.
Mass), except for July & August.

Gamblers Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women

Overeaters Anonymous members talk about their struggles with compulsive eating. Meeting every Wednesday

with the problem drinking of a relative or friend.

have an E-form so you complete this form without writing. Just e-mail it back to us, or print it out and drop it off. All Requests
must be made using our form. E-mail completed form to AnnaMarie Scuteri at annamariesta@hotmail.com. This is the ONLY
way to reserve a room here at St. A's. The group listed on the parish calendar is the group that has the right to use that
space. If you are not a designated ministry of our parish, permission must be granted from our Pastor, Msgr. Cassato, a rental
fee is paid, and a lease agreement completed in order to use space.
Sunday Bulletin Deadlines The Sunday Bulletin must be e-mailed to our printer by 10a.m. Monday. All announcements must be
submitted in WRITTEN form only (handwritten, typed, computer, fax, e-mailed, etc) by 3p.m. Friday. Announcements received
after the deadline will be published the following week. No one on the parish staff will assume the responsibility for your ministry’s
articles. Include your bulletin articles in your advance planning for your event. All Flyers need to be approved by a staff member
and submitted by Email only to MrsAthanasius@aol.com.
