class of 1962 - East Carolina Alumni Association
CLASS OF 1962
Golden Alumni Memory Book
A Look Back...
“From the sandy wastes of the outerbanks to the upper tricklings
of the Roanoke, from the broad fields of the coastal plain to the
moss-draped shores of the Cape Fear came men and women
to establish a college in rural Pitt County. East Carolina College,
when it was founded fifty-five years ago, was destined to
become the educational and cultural hub TO SERVE the eastern
section of the state.” —Buccaneer, 1962
Hail to thy name so fair, dear ol’ East Carolina. From learning
environments with lively class discussions, discovering new
ideas, and seeing the world with a new perspective to fond
memories of courting, spending time with friends, and finding
your own way…these are just some of the reasons why East
Carolina is such a special place.
It’s been 50 years since your graduation from East Carolina, yet
you are still an integral part of our University’s past, present, and
future. It is through our alumni that East Carolina has remained a
beacon in the East, guiding young minds on the same adventure
of self-discovery that you experienced 50 years ago.
Today, ECU boasts a record enrollment of more than 27,000
students and is the third-largest institution in the University of
North Carolina system. Thirteen colleges and schools provide
programs in education, humanities, social sciences, and several
professional programs including business, nursing, medicine,
technology, and engineering.
It is with pleasure that the East Carolina Alumni Association
give you, our golden Class of 1962, this memory book to
commemorate your 50th Class Reunion. Thank you for your
years of service and dedication to
your alma mater. This book contains
the memories of many of your 1962
classmates. We hope you enjoy
“catching up” with your fellow 1962
Pirates!
