That value does not come from its useful‐ ness or how it looks or how big or healthy or productive it is … The value of human life comes from the One who made it, who bought it back, and who desires to call every life for His eternal purpose. The em‐ bryo in the Petri dish, the baby in the womb, baby Sally in the neonatal intensive care unit, Uncle Ralph in the Alzheimer’s unit, grandma in the nursing home bed, you and me—we all have value because of what God has done.” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, executive director of Lutherans For Life – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life – www.lutheransforlife.org Thanks and God Bless Pastor Hintz Hello dear friends, Ngwaga o mosa! Happy New Year! Just a quick note to let you know our family's Winter 2011 newsletter has been posted on the newsletter tab of our website at www.rudowskes.com. Why not stoke up the fire and wash away the winter blahs by cozying up with it and hearing from someplace warmer? Hope all is well with you! Rich, Maya, and the Crew The Rudowske Family Lutheran Bible Translators February, 2011 By Ron Seeman Content or Grumbling? In Exodus 14, 16, and 17, the people of Israel were in the wilderness at this time and they were becoming less content with their situation. In chapter 14 they could see only two alternatives: slavery in Egypt or death in the wilderness. In chapter 16, God met their need for food but they had disobeyed God in how they were to collect it. In chapter 17, Israel runs out of water, they grumble instead of turning to the Lord. The Israelites cried for help, but they also attacked Moses and the Lord’s motives because many of the Israelites did not understand that God was in complete control. If we look at today’s society, are we any different from the Israelites? Society today believes the way to find contentment is through materialism and circumstances. Many people think they find contentment at a fabulous resort, or having the newest car or latest electronic gadget. After having returned home or made their latest purchase, how long is it before they are grumbling about what they have? In Ecclesiastes 4:7, Solomon shows us the fact that the more people gain, the more they want. Their drive for more robs them of joy, peace and contentment. If we would only understand that there is an everlasting joy, peace and contentment, but it does not come from possessions or circumstances, it only comes from God. We can have that contentment everyday because God is in control. As Paul wrote in Philippians 4:11-13, “…I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” In these verses Paul learned the secret: All things work together for those who love God, Rom. 8:28; Our own sinful nature is our own worst enemy, Rom. 5:10 and disciplining the body makes it possible to thrive spiritually, 1 Cor. 9:27. We can read in 1 Timothy 6:6-8, “Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.” When God dwells at the center of our lives, peace and contentment belong to us. The necessities of life are provided by God. This we confess in the meaning of the First Article of the Creed; “He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life.” We receive salvation through Jesus’ death and resurrection and are able to take part in the Sacraments and confess Jesus as Lord. Because Jesus loves us completely we receive His forgiveness that He promised. We are then able to experience a life full of joy, happiness and contentment that does not depend on circumstances. In closing, are you an Israelite in the desert who complains & grumbles or are you now aware that Christ provides for all your needs? Hebrews 13:5 tells us, “…be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”” Blessings, Ron Seeman FEBRUARY TEEN ACTIVITIES: February 6 - ALC - 2:00 p.m. - Teen Mission Trip Meetings Begin to sell Auction Tickets February 13 - ALC - 4 p.m. - Homeless Shelter Sell Auction Tickets February 19 - Teen Donut Fundraiser Prep - 6 p.m. February 20 - Teen Donut Sales Fundraiser Sell Auction Tickets February 27 - 2-5 p.m. - Teen Auction Prep.
