They cover songs from early traditional bluegrass, new arrangements from bands like The Old Crow Medicine Show, and freeform inspired music recalling early Grateful Dead. This band from Winchester is acclaimed for their original songs that blend Americana, Funk/ Folk and Bluegrass together for a sound that is Velvet Water. March 12 KARLY DAWN HIGGINS Karly Dawn Higgins loves country music, especially the kind she lives. She also believes that country music, in its vast possibilities, is a vessel for the "sounds of the heart and mind." Karly Dawn enjoys singing old time mountain tunes with the same strength and dynamics as she would use to render a heart-cupping honky-tonk number. Karly Dawn plays guitar and sings for the Clack Mountain String Band out of Morehead, Kentucky where she is from. She also performs with the oldtime band Ponty's Camper, also from east KY. She is learning and loving the old time banjo and enjoys sawing on the cello and writing tunes as well. She credits mountain singers like Hazel Dickens and Loretta Lynn as her inspiration for wanting to continue in performing this music. " Karly's singing is superb: after repeated listenings I believe she is my favorite singer in old time music. She sings from the soul and she's got her own style. She's mountain-born and her roots show." - John Harrod, Kentucky Music Authority March 19 HENHOUSE PROWLERS The Henhouse Prowlers is a 5-piece traditional bluegrass band based in Chicago, IL. Drawing from influences both old and new, the Prowlers strive to express the sentiment of their own times while still maintaining the integrity of traditional bluegrass music.
