Friday Night Entertainment - Starting at 6 p.m. Jesse Gregory & Faultline Jimbo Whaley & Greenbriar Steve Gulley & Friends Jesse Gregory and Faultline are a new, but noteworthy band that is definitely worth the listen. They bring new sounds to bluegrass as well as keeping the tradition alive! “Jesse sings with power and authority, and stands out from most of her contemporaries both for the quality and tone of her voice.” – John Lawless Jesse Gregory - Vocals, Guitar Ryan Blevins - Mandolin Jesse Allison - Bass Rusty Breedlove - Banjo Meade Richter - Fiddle The band has recorded five bluegrass projects in the past six years, and are best known for their “Back of the Book” cd. While the band can play traditional tunes, they are most known for their original songs. Whether you are brand new to bluegrass or a traditional fan, this band will be sure to please. Jimbo Whaley - Vocals Kipper Stitt - Banjo Scott Carris - Bass Matt Leadbetter - Dobro Roger Helton - Fiddle, Guitar Steve Gulley is considered a stalwart of the very top echelon of lead and tenor singers in the bluegrass business as well as being a gifted songwriter and guitarist. As a songwriter, he has been fortunate enough to have his songs recorded by many top groups. Steve has earned multiple Male Vocalist of the Year nominations at SPBGMA. Fiddlers will play 2 tunes: a waltz and a breakdown. 2. Bands must have 3, but no more than 6 members. No one can play in more than 1 band. 3. Bands will play 2 tunes: 1 vocal and 1 instrumental; or 2 vocals, minimum. Bands may be required to play up to 5 songs depending on number of bands entered. 4. Mandolin, banjo and guitar will play 2 tunes of choice. 5. All entrants are allowed 2 back-up musicians. 6. No tune can exceed 2 1/2 minutes. 7. No taps allowed in Buck Dancing competition. 8. These tunes are not allowed in playoffs or any other competition: Banjo: “Foggy Mountain Breakdown,” Fiddle: “Black Mountain Ray,” “Orange Blossom Special” and “Mockingbird.” 9. No electrical instruments (except electric bass) or drums are allowed. 10. Registration will absolutely close in each category when the first contestant in that category performs. 11. Contestants in the juvenile musician category will play 2 tunes of choice. Contestant must be 12 years of age or under. 12. No tune or song may be played more than once during all appearances of a contestant band. 13. Approximately 15 minutes prior to each event, contestants will draw for order of appearance for the upcoming round. Contestants must be ready to play when called upon. Failure to do so may result in loss of points. 14. All recording rights and photos are reserved and shall become the property of the Smoky Mountain Fiddler’s Convention. 15. All decisions of the Judges and Committee will be final. 16. There will be no charge for registration for competition. Musicians must pay admission at the gate and there will not be a refund. 17. Winners of Junior Fiddler (under 55), and Senior Fiddler (55 and older) will compete for the Smoky Mountain Fiddler Champion. They will play 3 tunes: a waltz, a breakdown, and a tune of their choice. The Champion Fiddler will receive a cash prize of $200. 18. Festival Officials may make changes due to the number of contestants at their discretion. Contact: Larry Smith, P.O.
