Save a life!
Adopt a homeless Pet!
Who could resist
this face?
Meet Charlie, a 7 year old
male Labrador Retriever
mix. Charlie is a friendly,
loving boy who has been
in and out of the YoungWilliams Animal Shelter
several times in the past
year and a half, partly
because no fence can
contain his big heart and
free spirit. He is a quirky,
flirty boy—expecially
with women—whose
personality has really
blossomed! A sweetheart,
Charlie will lay on his back
for as long a belly rub as you are willing to give.
Charlie will do best as an apartment dog or an indoor-only dog.
Even though he yearns to see the world, he loves people and
wants nothing more than to spend his golden years with a loving
family who will keep him safe.
For other possible pets from the Young-Williams Animal Center

ADVERTISING
Magazine space is no-cost to organizations or individuals caring for
animals who need homes. Monthly business rates are $300/150/75/35
for a full-page/half-page/quarter-page/business card ad in color, and
$200/100/50/25 for grayscale ads. A one year subscription is $25.
ADOPTION CRITERIA
Each organization in Critter has its own adoption criteria. All
organizations require an adoption contract and a fee to recoup basic
expenses. All will require that your adoptee be a pet, not merely
a utility animal for protection or hunting. Most will ensure that the
animals are spayed or neutered at the time of adoption; underfunded
shelters may instead require a spay/neuter contract and a deposit that
will be refunded upon proof of spay or neuter. Most will want to visit
your home and see where the pet will live. Because many of these
animals have not been well treated in the past, extra care is taken to
ensure their safety and happiness in the future.

WHY SPAY & NEUTER?
nSPAYING & NEUTERING SPARES THE LIVES OF
UNWANTED PETS! Only 1 in 9 cats and dogs born in the
U.S. will find a home. The rest will be destroyed because
nobody wants them.
nSPAYING & NEUTERING CALMS YOUR PET! Altered
animals make more affectionate companions. Altered
animals are less likely to bite because they are more eventempered.

cats and dogs have reduced risks of uterine, ovarian, and

In Tennessee you can legally smash the window of a hot car to save a dog
80-degree day, it takes just 10 minutes for the car to heat up to
99 degrees. Opening the windows won’t help much; animals don’t
have sweat glands to help them release all that extra heat.
So what can you do if you come upon a dog staring back at you
from the inside of a hot car, its owner nowhere in sight?
If you see an animal trapped in hot car in Tennessee, you can
save it. Tennessee made history in 2015 by passing the first law of
its kind in the nation. It is an extension of the Good Samaritan law
that allows you to break into a hot car if a child is trapped inside.
The measure protects people from civil liability if they damage the
car while trying to rescue an animal in danger.
Dog walks along hot asphalt streets send heat radiating up
your legs, making you grateful for shoes that protect your feet.
Your dog walks closer to the pavement and has no shoes; so
responsible owners stay in the shade as much as possible, walk
the dog on the grass on the side of the road, and set out later in
the day.
As for those coveted rides in the car? Again caution is required.
Shade or no shade, a closed car is no place for a pet in
summertime. Even the fall and winter can be tricky. On an
Specific steps must also be taken, including attempting to find the
owner and notifying law enforcement. But, if it’s taking too long to
get help and you act reasonably and responsibly you will not be
at fault.
Most people are aware of the problem, but often don’t realize
that it only takes a few minutes for a dangerous situation to
develop. Putting animals at risk of an agonizing death in a hot car
is a problem we can all agree to prevent, writes Wayne Pacelle,
President and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States,
on his blog “A Humane Nation (http://blog.humanesociety.org/
wayne/2016/05/states-act-to-prevent-dog-deaths-in-hot-cars.html).

Surgeons (ACVS) certifies veterinarians as
specialists in surgery. When your dog or
cat needs advanced surgery, they depend
on you to find a veterinarian with sufficient
experience and training to perform that
surgery. A Board-Certified ACVS Surgeon
provides unconditional reassurance of
advanced training and expertise. . . giving
you the confidence that your pet is in the best
hands. www.acvs.org
