Adopt a homeless Pet!
Playful Jim
Jim clearly likes to climb
into things. In the morning,
he will hang out with you in
the bathroom while you get
ready, sometimes climbing
into the sink and lying on
his back to chase water
dripping from the faucet.
He just loves to play! He
chases his feathery toy and
a laser pointer.
Jim is a cute, cuddly fellow
with a huge personality. He
has never used his foster family’s furniture as a scratching post.
He likes everyone, including the family dog who licks him all over.
(Jim loves it!) He likes you to pet him when he eats and will come
when you say “treat.” Jim usually sleeps with his tongue hanging
out. You can even touch it and he won’t wake up. When he is
sleeping nothing disturbs him!
Based on size, temperament and the long tail, they believe he
could be part Maine Coon.

ADVERTISING
Magazine space is no-cost to organizations or individuals caring for
animals who need homes. Monthly business rates are $300/150/75/35
for a full-page/half-page/quarter-page/business card ad in color, and
$200/100/50/25 for grayscale ads. A one year subscription is $25.
ADOPTION CRITERIA
Each organization in Critter has its own adoption criteria. All
organizations require an adoption contract and a fee to recoup basic
expenses. All will require that your adoptee be a pet, not merely
a utility animal for protection or hunting. Most will ensure that the
animals are spayed or neutered at the time of adoption; underfunded
shelters may instead require a spay/neuter contract and a deposit that
will be refunded upon proof of spay or neuter. Most will want to visit
your home and see where the pet will live. Because many of these
animals have not been well treated in the past, extra care is taken to
ensure their safety and happiness in the future.

They call him Bill Murray, and for good reason. He is quite the goof ball. Bill is a
2 year old Golden Labrador mix, with lots of energy to play. He loves chasing balls,
playing with stuffed toys, and going on walks; though he needs some leash training to
stop him from pulling too hard—so you will need to be strong, and strong minded. Bill
Murray knows how to sit and shake on command and he’s very food motivated. All he
wants to do is play and be yours. TVGRR is not sure if he is housetrained but Bill is a
quick study, learning new things easily. This handsome boy gets along with dogs but
not cats. He would love to be in a foster home or a forever home soon!

New Low-Cost Training Keeps Dogs at Home
Hundreds of dogs are returned to shelters every year because
of behavior problems. One of the most effective means to
prevent this is proper training.
The Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley (HSTV) offers a
new low-cost training program to help their adoptive community
keep the commitments to the dogs they adopt.
Group classes are $30 per class and limited to 3 clients.
Classes cover a variety of common behavior and training issues.
They are held 6 days a week, including mornings and weekends
to provide flexibility for your busy lifestyle.
Private in-home classes ($50 per class) are also available for
dogs that may not do well in a class setting with other dogs.
HSTV Adopters receive the first class free and then a $10
discount per class. Non HSTV adopters are also welcome. See
humanesocietytennessee.com/training-2/ for more information.
The HSTV training program is funded through a grant from the PEDIGREE
Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides grants to
organizations that help dogs in need. Learn more about the
PEDIGREE Foundation at www.pedigreefoundation.org.
The Pantry For Feeding Pets
(PFFP project) began to help
people coming to local food pantries for food for themselves,
who were also have difficulty feeding their dogs and cats. Often
what happens is that dog and cat owners think they will have to
abandon their pets, sacrificing the love and companionship of
their animals because they cannot care for them properly.
Pantry For Feeding Pets volunteers believe that just as no
person in our community should go hungry, neither should their
pets go hungry or be forfeited for lack of food.
In March 2009, after soliciting for pet-food donations, PFFP
began distributing dog and cat food to owners in economic
need, shut-ins, and formerly homeless veterans. From
January 1, 2015, through September 30, 2015, PFFP
distributed 18,516 pet-food family portions.
Serving the Knox County and surrounding areas, Pantry For
Feeding Pets distributes free pet food to Senior Citizens, and
low income families through Fish Hospitality Pantries. For more

OF EAST TENNESSEE

Schotzie, a 3 year old female,
knows some basic obedience,
such as sit and down; and
she is already house- and
crate-trained. She does need
some work walking nicely on a
leash. She would do best with
another young/active dog.
Rocky is newly available for
adoption. Contact German
Shepherd Rescue of East
Tennessee for more information.
Nikki came into the shelter in
March 2014, two days after a
partial tail amputation. After a
total of three tail amputation
surgeries and several months
in a loving foster home, she has
learned to enjoy life as a dog.
If stressed, Nikki will still chase
at her tail, but she will stop with
correction. Nikki would do best in
a home with another calm dog or
possibly as an only dog.
