j Heroines in Technology The Northern Virginia chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA NOVA) and the March of Dimes announced the recipients of the 2011 Heroines in Technology Awards on Friday, October 21, 2011 at a black-tie gala event that raised $165,320 to support the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies. Since its inception in 2001, Heroines in Technology has raised more than $1.3 million to support the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies. The March of Dimes is pleased to partner with the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA NOVA). AFCEA fosters an ethical dialogue between industry, government, and academia on the effective use of technology. The March of Dimes is AFCEA NOVA’s charity of choice because of their mutual belief in the value of science and technology. Science and technology has fueled the innovations and advances in the fight to improve the health of babies, specifically preventing premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality. Heroines in Technology honors local women who balance demanding roles in the fast-paced technology sector with significant commitments to community service. The following are the 2011 Heroines in Technology: j Rising e Heroin Tiffany Mensah Tiffany Mensah, Benefits/Payroll Specialist, CCSi. Tiffany Mensah developed a corporate social responsibility program for CCSi employees and family members known as the Community Involvement Programs (CIP). She also manages the planning and logistics for every outing, which can range from an ice cream social at the Armed Forces Retirement Home to a book drive she coordinated with the Sandals Foundation to a shoe drive for Souls4Soles. While studying for her master’s thesis in Nairobi, Kenya, Tiffany also volunteered as an English teacher at Skynet Business College, a school where a majority of the students are refugees seeking asylum from neighboring tumultuous regions. She also volunteered at the Ray of Hope Clinic and Community Centre in the struggling slum of Kawangware. photo by Perry Rundall j ual Individ e Heroin Teresa Bozzelli Teresa Bozzelli, Vice President and Managing Director, Sapient. Teresa Bozelli’s dedication to her community is both hands-on and strategic. Through her visible leadership roles with organizations like the Capital Area Food Bank – where she works handin-hand on site with a team of volunteers – Teresa has inspired many others within her company to become more actively involved. In addition, she is part of the global leadership team behind Sapient’s Gives Back Program, which enables all employees to participate in service hours with a charity of their choice. Teresa’s strategic guidance has also helped groups like The Children’s Inn and No Greater Sacrifice grow. Under Teresa’s direction, the 2011 Children’s Inn Gala set a new bar by embracing emerging technologies, resulting in record level year-over-year increases in donations and attendance. Lockheed Martin was the event’s Dinner Sponsor and Sapient served as the Cocktail Reception Sponsor. Additional event sponsors included AFCEA International and Speakerbox Communications. Media partners included Federal News Radio, Washington Life magazine, Fairfax Woman, and Smart CEO. Video production was provided by Mind & Media.
