9th March 2016 - St Teresa`s School
Week 6: 9th March 2016 St Teresa’s School newsletter Mufti Day Yesterday in Takitimu, we looked at how the people in Fiji are coping after cyclone Winston devastated their homes. We thought about how they are beginning to adapt their old, everyday routines to their new surroundings, and were thankful that we were able to donate money to help provide food and water, and to help them rebuild. Well done to the students who wore mufti yesterday, and who donated their gold coins. The total amount we raised was $161. Thank you. Bike track: A big thank-you to Stuart who has painted a new bike track around our school field. It has been utilised well over the past week and is a lot of fun. South Wairarapa Swimming Road Patrol: Just a reminder that the Road patrollers are there for a reason—to help the students cross the road safely. We would like to remind you to use the pedestrian crossing, and to encourage younger students to use it as well. Thank you. What a fantastic day we had on Friday at the South Wairarapa Swimming Sports. Even though the water was cool, the sun was shinning and the day was very warm. All of our swimmers did their very best, and their behaviour was outstanding! Well done everyone! A big congratulations must go to the following swimmers who were successful in making it to the next stage of the swimming competition, the Wairarapa Championships in Masterton on Wednesday the 16th March: Julia O’Driscoll, Brian McCarthy, Tegan James, Shoshannah Bryce, Peter O’Driscoll, Summer Culkin, and Dylan Pugh. 63 Bell Street Featherston 5710 Ph: (06) 308 9064 Cell Ph: 027 733 1636 email: office@teresas.school.nz www.teresas.school.nz Movin’ March This month is Movin’ March. The students at St Teresa’s are encouraged to bike, scooter, walk or run to school for the entire month. The teachers will be giving out spot prizes, and the students will go into a draw to win a brand new bike, helmet, and drink bottle. Parents/caregivers can also win prizes for their family by taking photos of their child/ren on the way to school, uploading them to their Facebook page, and tagging #movinmarch. By doing this, they will go into the draw to win a family pass to one of seven locations, such as Wellington Zoo and Pukaha Mt Bruce. Check out these super movers… From The St Teresa’s Parish, Featherston: Featherston Community Board member and banjo player Peter Jackson and Trinity Roots band front man Warren Maxwell are putting together a CommUNITY Concert and Picnic in Cherry Tree park on the main road in Featherston on Saturday 19 March from 3pm. The event is to help promote goodwill in Featherston after the division and ill-feeling created in the community following the recent tragic deaths of teenagers Hoani Korewha and Pacer Willacy-Scott. Check out our blog to keep up to date with what is happening in Takitimu: St Teresa's Church is going to have a stand at Cherry Tree park at which we will give out hot cross buns and bookmarks which the students from St Teresa's School will make. The bookmarks will have messages emphasising the importance of love, forgiveness and hope. These messages will be very fitting with Easter the following weekend celebrating Jesus rising from the dead and promising us eternal life. They will also help to spread the message of mercy, forgiveness and love which Pope Francis tells us is so important for community to grow. Students and parents would be most welcome to join people from St Teresa's Church at the park to help give out the hot cross buns and bookmarks. Just come along!
