El Sexo Débil (The Weaker Sex) follows the
story of a father and his sons who, one day,
are suddenly and inexplicably abandoned
by all the women in their lives, from grandmother
to wives to girlfriends and granddaughter,
even the female housekeeper. As the
Camacho men try to understand what has
happened and why, Helena appears in their
lives and turns their already upside-down
world even more so. In trying to figure out
how to fend for themselves they go through
a process of denial, rejection, confusion,
resistance, assimilation, understanding
and, finally, acceptance.
The series calls into question who really is
the so-called “weaker sex”. Can men really
live without women? What good is it to be
brave, courageous and strong in a world
where women no longer need men to
survive? Could it simply be that as long as
they stick to their chauvinistic ways they will
indeed be the weaker sex?
