Cascade Aerospace Sponsors Third
Annual Aerospace, Defence and Security
Expo in Abbotsford

As a Platinum sponsor for the most successful
Aerospace, Defence and Security Expo (ADSE)
in its history, Cascade had the honour of
hosting a number of leading Aerospace and
Defence companies such as Lockheed Martin,
CAE, Boeing and Bombardier, on August 7th
and 8th.
With representatives from the top
Aerospace companies in North America, ADSE,
combined with the Abbotsford International
Airshow, proved itself as the premiere Industry
event in Canada.
Ben Boehm, Cascade’s Executive Vice
President and COO, provided expert comments
and answered questions as a member of the
esteemed Defence Procurement Strategy
Discussion Panel. The panel included
Charlie Bouchard, Lockheed Martin Canada;
Mike Greenley, CAE; and Barry Kohler, Bell
Helicopter Textron. The panel discussed the
implementation of Canada’s new Defence
Procurement Strategy and the many benefits to
Canadian companies.
During ADSE, Cascade awarded its top
suppliers at the Fourth Annual Cascade Supply
Chain Awards. These awards are handed to the
top five suppliers who are determined using
a scorecard system. The deserving winners
were: Pyrotek Heat Treating, Wesco Aircraft,
Aero Engineering and Manufacturing, Kellstrom
Aerospace, and DGI Supply. The Supplier
events ended with the Cascade Supplier
Classic Golf Tournament on Saturday following
the conference.
ADSE concluded with Cascade Aerospace
inviting the ADSE delegates to the Cascade
Chalet for the First Annual Dinner under the
Stars and Afterburners in Twilight Abbotsford
Airshow Opening. The airshow included
Canada’s Snowbirds, the CF18 Hornet demo
and Team Rocket Aerial fireworks display. The
evening was a huge success and attended by
members of all levels of government and many
representatives in aerospace and militaries
from North America and Europe.

3km for 3 Fathers

From June 4 to 6, the unthinkable took place in Moncton, N.B. A
lone gunman held part of the hub city in lockdown and killed three
RCMP officers – Const. David Ross, Const. Fabrice Georges
Gevaudan and Const. Douglas James Larche – as the province,
the nation, and the world watched in shock.
When the suspect was finally arrested, the city of Moncton
began their healing process. People came together to rebuild their
lives and to pay respect for the three fallen RCMP officers. On
Sunday, June 15 (Father’s Day), The Running Room in Moncton
held a run/walk which they titled “3km for 3 Fathers”.
Three employees from IMP Aerostructures, Shawna Doucette,
Cindy Hicks and Linda Carter, signed up immediately, feeling
compelled by the events that had taken place so close to their
home town. They knew they needed to do this event to honor the
three fathers who lost their lives. It was a drizzly Sunday morning
when they drove from Amherst to Moncton but that didn’t diminish
their commitment to join thousands of others from across the
region to run for those three fathers. Runners were asked to wear
the colour red to show support for the RCMP, and they did. For
as far as you see, there was the colour red, with most people
carrying the Canadian flag. It was surreal to say the least.
The event was very emotional, but positive as well, for many
who had the chance to say thank you to the many RCMP officers
who lined up along the route, forming honor guards to cheer on
the runners. As it turned out the officers hardly had the chance to
applaud the runners, as the runners were stopping at the honour
guard to shake their hands and say thank you.
The run/walk also went virtual on-line with participants joining
in from Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Alberta and even Rio de
Janeiro. All proceeds from the event went to the families of the
fallen RCMP officers.

CO’s Commendation to IMP Staff at MOB Gander

On June 26, members of IMP Maintenance
Organization at CH149 Cormorant Main
Operating Base (MOB) Gander were
recognized for their excellence in the field
of maintenance expertise and outstanding
teamwork with the presentation of a
Commanding Officers Commendation.
Earlier this year Cormorant aircraft
CH149912 required a 2400 running hour
(RH) inspection in addition to a 5000 Rotor
Hour (RH) flying controls inspection. The
inspection entailed the full strip down of all
flying controls and the removal of fuel cells
revealing corrosion issues that had to be
dealt with at the MOB.
MOB Gander had just gone through
their busiest Winter Search And Rescue
(SAR) season to date. Given this
circumstance and the intense Search and
Rescue tasking level for this unit, it was
imperative that 149912 was completed on
time. To that end, all members of the IMP
team at Gander were involved. The entire
team worked long hours to ensure that the
necessary spares were available and that
the work orders were coordinated such
that the work was completed in minimum
time.

Parm Phangura at the Commonwealth Games

Parm Phangura, the Occupational Health
& Safety Advisor for Cascade Aerospace,
is a world level Olympic weightlifter who
just recently represented Canada at the
2014 Commonwealth Games held in
Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August
3. He placed sixth in his category with a
combined total of 341kg.
“It was an unbelievable experience
and I am very happy with my ranking at
these prestigious games,” says Phangura.
“The people of Glasgow were amazing
and extremely friendly and they sure love
to party. I will cherish these games for the
rest of my life”.
Phangura has been competitively lifting
since 2001. He grew up in Quesnel, B.C.,
where he was inspired by local lifter and
Canadian national team member
Paramjit Gill.
“I got to know Paramjit Gill when I was
in high school,” Phangura says. “We used
to watch him train and thought he was
amazing. He had a superman physique
and all of us kids wanted to be like him –
he was my intro into weightlifting.”
“My cousins, Harjinder and Jaswant
Phangura, competed in weightlifting in
India and when they came to Canada, they
pushed me to train more aggressively. I
began competing at the age of 21”.
Phangura is a member of the
Canadian Senior National Team and is a
distinguished three-time Senior Canadian
National Champion, having competed
at numerous international competitions.
Ken Lundrigan’s 60th

Mr. Ken Lundrigan, the IMP Aerospace
& Defence VP Finance & Contracts,
celebrated his 60th birthday in July.
Some of the Executive Assistants
in the Exec wing, who shall remain
nameless, decided to help Ken celebrate
this significant milestone by decorating
his office. Ken was very pleased with their
efforts and didn’t mind posing for some
photos and keeping the decorations for a
number of days.

He holds the B.C. provincial records for
snatch, clean and jerk, and total records
in the 105+ kg category. He graduated
from the Occupational Health and
Safety program at BCIT in 2004. While
studying full time, he earned two national
weightlifting champion titles!
Parm joined Cascade in September
of 2012, and is very thankful to Cascade
Aerospace for allowing him the time off to
train and focus on his preparation for the
games.
His big supporters on the home front
are his young daughter Talia and his wife
Sophia Phangura, herself a nine-time
national medalist in the sport of Olympic
Weightlifting.
Walk for CF

On May 23, Eric Richards, an
Aerostructures FAI Inspector, and his
family participated in the Great Strides™
walk for Cystic Fibrosis at Dartmouth
Crossing. Eric’s granddaughter, two-anda-half­-year-­old Serena, suffers from CF;
she was diagnosed when she was six
months old. Serena’s family wanted to
participate in the walk so they could raise
funds in support of research into a cure for
this disease. I had the pleasure of meeting
Little Ms. Serena, and she is a delightful,
energetic, happy little girl, she definitely
stole my heart. Serena’s family raised
$931 for the Great Strides walk.
The Dartmouth Great Strides Walk has
raised over $100,000, which to date is the
largest fundraising year so far! There are
more than 50 walks held across Canada
every year. The Dartmouth walk had
approximately 200 participants, including
cystic fibrosis families and friends, CF
medical professionals, corporate teams,
and Kin Canada partner teams!
Proceeds from the Great Strides™
walk will support investments in leading
clinical care and world-­class research. This
incredible support has already resulted in
an increase in the median age of survival
for Canadians with cystic fibrosis from
four years old in 1960 to 49.7 years old in
2012. The Great Strides™ walk is bringing
us even closer to finding a cure or effective
control of this disease.

F2X takes Flight at Cascade Aerospace

Cascade Aerospace competes on a crowded global stage.
As international competition grows, we have faced a period of
substantial downturn in commercial maintenance work in North
America. This work has moved offshore while domestic military
contracts have also been reduced.
Against this growing international marketplace and the current
global economic instability, Cascade must remain competitive
and sustainable. To do so, we have launched an expanded
continuous improvement and efficiency program called F2X
(Flight to Excellence). F2X is designed to align our vision, regain
our competitive edge, and create sustainable growth. In EVP
& COO Ben Boehm’s words, “by increasing our accountability
and focusing on improving efficiencies we will help ensure that
Cascade will continue with a positive future.”
There are four key components to the first phase of F2X:
• Everybody in a team
• Key performance indicators to measure progress to plan
• Checking in each day
• Performing workplace 5S standardization.
The Cascade leadership team has formed the first F2X
cell, developed a strategic balanced scorecard, and has been
tracking progress against key metrics each week. The Continuous
Improvement team is continuing the program rollout throughout
the fall.

2014 Employee Engagement Survey Results

We are pleased to announce that the results of the 2014
Employee Engagement Survey have been distributed to all
departments for employees to review. The results are also
available on myIMP under Human Resources/Employee
Engagement Survey Results/Documents/2014 Engagement
Survey Results.
The survey provides employee feedback on seven key areas:
Performance Management, Management, Leadership, Information
Sharing, Health and Safety, Work Environment and Engagement.
See the overall results shown in the chart.
Participation in the 2014 survey for IMP Aerospace, IMP
Electronic Systems, and CSH was at 52 per cent, which is a slight
decrease from 57 per cent in 2013. Five of the seven categories
received similar ratings (within one or two percentage points)
as 2013. There were significant positive increases in favourable
responses for the Information Sharing and Health and Safety
categories.
Your feedback on this survey was used to determine initiatives
surrounding the recently communicated strategic plan for IMP
Aerospace. A key element of this plan is to improve employee
engagement through initiatives aimed at fostering stronger
employee relations and employee development. We recognize
that there remains much more to be done and we will continue to
respond to your feedback.
Thank you to all employees who participated in this year’s
employee engagement survey and we look forward to hearing
from even more employees next year.

Senior DND Official Visits IMP Aerospace

Mario Lagrange, the Director Aerospace Equipment and Program
Management (Maritime) (DAEPM(M)), visited IMP Aerospace
on August 11 and 12. Mr. Lagrange is the senior DND official
responsible for all in service support for the CP140 Aurora, CH149
Cormorant and CH124 Sea King fleets. As such he directs the
activity on all the contracts that DND has with IMP Aerospace on
these fleets.
Mr. Lagrange was recently appointed to his current position
after a 30-plus year career as a maintenance officer in the RCAF.
He expressed a strong desire to visit IMP Aerospace early in
his tenure to become familiar with our programs and meet the

people who deliver the critical support for the RCAF fleets that
he manages. The visit consisted of a number of briefings and
discussions on our DND programs followed by a tour of our
facilities.
Mr. Lagrange was very impressed with the scope and
depth of the activities here in Halifax and by the dedication and
professionalism of the IMP Aerospace staff he encountered. A
big thanks to all the individuals who supported this visit. The visit
was a complete success in advancing our Strategic Initiative of
Improved Customer Relations.

Amherst’s First Flight

Amherst is celebrating its 125th year as
a town and aircraft production has been a
big part of the town’s history. As a matter of
fact, the first flight of the all-Canadian built
Anson II took place in Amherst.
The Anson II was built at Canadian
Car & Foundry in Amherst. It incorporated
many improvements and innovations to
save weight and scarce resources such
as aluminum. For instance, the metal nose
was interchanged with one of moulded
plywood. In service, the Anson II was used
primarily for pilot training.
The Canadian Car & Foundry
also forms part of the history of IMP
Aerostructures. The original company,
Rhodes Curry Co., was purchased by
Enamel and Heating Products, which later
changed its name to Enheat, which is now
IMP Aerostructures.
This year marks the 125th anniversary
of the Town of Amherst. The original town
was established in 1764, two miles west of
its current location. By 1850 Amherst was
located where you find it today. By 1880
the railway had been built demonstrating
the political will to promote Canadian
industry. Amherst became a huge market
for products which contributed directly to
the growth of the town. With the help of
the newly-installed railroad, Amherst’s first
industries were built near the station where
some of the buildings are still in use today.

Amherst’s industries made it the busiest
centre in the Maritime Provinces, which
is where the term “Busy Amherst” comes
from.
Aerostructures Family Day

On Saturday, July 12, IMP Aerostructures held their annual Family
Day at the Tidnish Docks ball field. Those in attendance enjoyed a
delicious barbecue, lots of ice cream treats, miniature pony rides,
a water slide, lots of sunshine, a live band and much more.
Prizes were drawn for throughout the day, with the Grand
Prize going to Linda Carter for a two-night’s stay at the Amherst
Shore Country Inn, meals included, valued at $665. Other prize
winners were: Patti Legere, Paul Fury, Mitch Meade, and
Earl Dow ($50 gift certificates); Ken Fury, (Fastenal gift package),
Deborah Emmett (IMP bag), Allison Brown and
Janice Beed-Meade (Boeing Tianjin mugs), Alyson Fromm
(Boeing Tianjin scarf), Tracy Legere and Art Gouchie, (Boeing
Tianjin photo albums) and Andrew Savage (IMP hat/t-shirt
combo).
The band, DC Smith and The Streamliners entertained
everyone with many great songs during the afternoon.
Everyone enjoyed the day and we would like to send out a
huge thank you to our Social Committee for all their hard work
putting this day together for us. Social Committee Members are:

HSIA Cormorant Support Centre
Cormorant In-Service Support Contract (ISSC)
Renewal

IMP Aerospace & Defence is pleased to announce Canada’s
renewal of the CH149 Cormorant In-Service Support Contract
(ISSC) for the period 1 August 2014 to 31 July 2021.
Since aircraft procurement and first contract award in August
2000, IMP has been proud to maintain this important and very
capable fleet of Canadian Search and Rescue (SAR) Helicopters.
Under the ISSC, IMP is responsible for overall Program
Management including all Maintenance, Engineering, Material,
Training, Quality and Contracts support. The ISSC support team
is made up of a Cormorant Support Centre at the Halifax Stanfield
International Airport (HSIA) facilities, three Main Operating Bases
(442 Squadron Comox, 413 Squadron Greenwood, 103 Squadron
Gander) and a Depot Level Maintenance facility at HSIA. Over the
last years, this SAR fleet has generated record flying rates and
overall aircraft availability has been at all-time highs.
IMP looks forward to the exciting challenges and opportunities
ahead for the Cormorant. Congratulations to the entire support
team for this achievement.
SOFEX 2014

In May, a large special operations and homeland security
conference was held at the King Abdullah I Airbase in
Amman, Jordan. The event is known as SOFEX and
was hosted by his Majesty King Abdullah II. Amer Jbour
represented IMP Aerospace & Defence at the event after
receiving a special invitation from SOFEX General Manager
Amer Tabbah. While attending the event, Amer met with
the Royal Jordanian Air Force Commander and His Royal
Highness Prince Feisal bin al Hussein.
SOFEX, which stands for Special Operations Forces
Exhibition and Conference, occurs once every two years
and is a four-day event showcasing exhibitors and national
pavilions from many different nations. The event includes
seminars delivered by top military officials as they discuss
defense strategies, counter terrorism measures and
homeland security issues. It also provides a great opportunity
to network with notable Aerospace companies from around
the world.
18th Annual IMP Aerospace & Defence Golf
Tournament

The 18th Annual IMP Aerospace
& Defence Employee Charity Golf
Tournament was held at Fox Hollow Golf
Club in Stewiacke on July 12th. It was an
absolutely perfect day for golf (weather
wise), so everyone knew the scores would
be low. In fact the winning team shot a
–11, tying the all time record for this event.
First-place team members were IMP
power golf couple Carley Hubbard and
Mike Gibbs, plus Derek MacKay and Mike
Nunn. Second place went to
Bob Gouchie’s team (–8). Third place at –7
was Ron McNeil’s team, which also won
the Putting Contest with a team score of 8.
(Three teams tied Ron’s team in Putting –
captains Spencer Gossen, Darren Crowley
and Kent Parks – however tie-breakers
goes to team with best 18-hole score).
• Closest to Pin (W) was
Carley Hubbard at 18’ 7”.
• Closest to Pin (M) was Colin Wills at 5’ 2”.
• Long Drive (W) winner was
Sarah Reddy.

This charity golf tournament raised
more than $4,600 for Make-A-Wish
(Atlantic).

This year a special prize was donated
by Envirosystems for four rounds/carts
at Glen Arbour. The top five teams got to
battle it out in a Pitch & Putt Contest. Each
team picked one person to Chip/Pitch and
a different player to putt it out.

teams all made the cut with two teams
(Larry Lundquist and Adam Smith) just
narrowly missing the cut by one shot at
–5. A lot of players stuck around to watch
the competition which took three rounds to
break the tie between Brad Bonners and
Carley Hubbard. Then Carley Hubbard
made a beautiful chip within one foot of the
pin and Brad’s team conceded so
Mike Gibbs did not have to officially putt it
out. All-in-all a great day was had by the
34 teams (more than 130 players).
Lastly a special thanks to the company
and the social society for their continued
support of this event through their annual
contribution to cover the expenses to run
the tournament year after year.

IMP Aerostructures LOUD Shirt Day

Friday, July 18, was LOUD Shirt Day at
IMP Aerostructures! The contest was
open to all employees. The prize for the
LOUDEST shirt was a $50 Gift Certificate
for Mark’s Work Warehouse. The winner
of LOUDEST shirt was determined by
“applause-o-meter” in the cafeteria at
12:30 p.m. The rules for the event were:
• Shirts must be in compliance with company safety and dress code policies
• No torn or ripped clothing
• No attachments that may fall into or get caught in machinery or equipment
• No offensive slogans
• No bare midriffs, spaghetti straps, etc.

Tech Data Kaizen, Two Years Later

How Can We Improve Accessibility To Tech Data?

In April 2012 a Tech Data Kaizen was held with participants from
production and supporting departments. The team was asked
how to improve accessibility to tech data such as “what software
to use”, “where to find the documents”, or “what revision is to be
utilized”. The three-day Kaizen event revealed improvements
which expanded beyond accessibility. Over the intervening two
years a number of achievements have been reached:
• Updates to the RES and Scope Change e-forms and
creation of an Engineering Drawing Request (EDR) and Deviation and Waiver forms;
• Streamlining the multiple databases into a single Library and Drawing Crib (LDC) database
• Basic CMstat (PDMPlus) training
• Updating and simplifying the access to SPPs and ADs
• Improving the sign-in and sign-out of documents and usage traceability and better binding of Picture Books
• Many IT related fixes and improvements to thin client, laptop and tablet systems as well as IHS access
• Creation of the Tech data button and development of a mail run map
• IETM pre-notification changes to planning.
Still remaining to be done:
Enable a quick link to MSDSs via the tech data button and a few
more dataloads for the LDC database to bring the drawing cribs
and library fully online with all programs.
Disappointments we encountered:
The implementation of the recommendations have not been
without challenges which we continue to work with IT to resolve.
The wireless thin clients/PCs helped accessibility closer to the
aircraft, but the area of coverage in the hangars is still being
enhanced. A challenge remains in providing production with
weekly updates of the WIMS which is being reviewed.
These achievements would not have been realized without
the help of Production, the Library, CMO, Drawing Cribs, IT and
the programmers. It is their teamwork and participation that has
helped CI with these tasks.
Can we improve further? Absolutely! So at any future Kaizen
event help us strive to Continuously Improve.

This July, Halifax celebrated the 13th
anniversary of the Lebanese Festival, held
at the Olympic Community Centre. The
festival is a highly anticipated event every
year and features delicious traditional
food, music, as well as several unique
and interesting talent shows and contests.
The Festival has been hosted since 2001
by the Saint Antonios Antiochan Orthodox
Christian Church. Michel Hanna, a Senior
Aeronautical Engineer in Aeronautical
Support Engineering, has been an active
member and volunteer at Saint Antonios
for more than 20 years. He currently
assists the priest during church services
and is a Sunday School teacher.
This year, Michel provided tours of
the beautiful new Saint Antonios Church,
located at the corner of Windsor Street and
Chebucto Road. The church is currently
under construction across from the site
where it originally opened in 1980. Michel
is very proud of the new church, which
is based on a partial renovation and
redesign of the historic, centrally located
St. Matthias Anglican Church. St. Matthias
Anglican Church has been in Halifax for
more than 80 years, but its membership
has declined significantly in recent years
and the church itself was mostly being
used by other community groups. This
project will allow an important piece of
Halifax’s heritage to be preserved and
used for the continued enjoyment of all.
Michel has been honoured to serve as
a member and volunteer at Saint Antonios.
His sincere, strongly held religious beliefs
and his fulfilling work there have been a
source of strength, peace, and joy.

Aircraft Photography Contest

Over the next two issues of IMPrint we will be conducting a photo
contest to capture the beauty of aircraft for us all to see. At IMP
Aerospace & Defence we mostly see aircraft in their “disassembled” condition undergoing repairs or modification. This contest is
to let us appreciate their beauty when “they have slipped the surly
bonds of earth and are dancing the skies on laughter-silvered
wings” (John Magee). To compete in our contest simply submit an
electronic copy of a picture that you have taken and you may win
one of our great prizes!

Energy Saving Project – Compressed Air in #1

Compressing air for production purposes at IMP requires a significant amount of energy. This past Spring, the Energy Intensive
50HP, thirty year old Gardner Denver air compressor failed and it
was quickly realized that it would be uneconomical to repair. Two
options for replacement were available.
Option 1 was to replace “like for like” and install a 50 Hp fixed
speed compressor quoted at $18,000, and; Option 2 was to perform an Engineering Study of the hangar’s compressed air needs.
The outcome of Option 2 was a recommendation to install
two smaller air compressors, using variable speed at the heart
of the system, so the compressors would essentially shut down
when the demand for air was low. Although the total cost for this
system was 60% higher, the investigation of energy consumption
of both options revealed that substantial energy savings can be
realized with a variable speed system. The net additional capital
cost for option 2 was $11,000 but with a yearly energy savings of
$15,700, Efficiency Nova Scotia was impressed with the potential
savings and provided an incentive of $15,000 to IMP to off-set the
additional capital cost for the energy efficient initiative.
The new variable speed air compressor system was installed
in mid-July and everything has been running smoothly. Future
energy efficient initiatives partnering the IMP Facilities team and
Efficiency Nova Scotia include: LED Highbay Lighting Upgrades;
Energy Consumption Monitoring, and; Heat Recovery Ventilation.

Rambler Toonie Draw
Midsummer Lunch
Potluck
The Amherst Jr. A Rambler Toonie draw started in February of
2013 to raise money for the hockey team. In order to participate
in the draw you have to register and pay your toonie every week.
Every Tuesday, one lucky number is drawn. There are numerous
purple boxes located in various businesses throughout Amherst,
where you deposit your toonie along with your play number,
which is applied to your toonie via an orange sticker, and if you
don’t pay and your number comes up, you don’t win that week. A
few of those weeks the winning amount has been over $10,000.
Over the years there have been at least six winners from IMP
Aerostructures so far, with the current winner being Phil Lake
with just over $2,000. More than $80,000 has been raised for the
hockey club.
Due to the many important projects on the go and very tight
schedules, IMP Electronic Systems opted to forgo the usual “last
week of July first week of August” plant shutdown.
With many people still choosing to take their vacation
midsummer, and a shutdown in the cafeteria, the idea to have a
lunch potluck on the two Fridays was met with great enthusiasm!
More than 30 people participated each week; with more than
enough food for everyone, and some leftovers to take home!
Thank you to everyone who made the Midsummer Potluck a
huge success.

What’s Happening in Cascade’s Engineering
Department?

Cascade’s Engineering department is a Transport Canada Design
Approval Organization, which is working towards obtaining a
DND Accredited Technical Organization (ATO) certification. The
main objective of obtaining the ATO is to enhance Cascade’s
relationship with DND on the CC130 program in order to provide
effective airworthiness oversight on Tier 1 Subcontractor ATOs,
and to enable the possibility of expanding into more complex
military aircraft modifications and prototyping work. The
department is made up of approximately 70 people, including
Avionics, Structures, Mechanical Systems, Manufacturing
Methods and Certification Delegate engineers and Technical
Service representatives, CAD specialists, Engineering Leads, and
support personnel.
At Cascade’s inception, Engineering’s main purpose was a
liaison role supporting the MRO activities. Through the years,
Engineering also developed various products in support of specific
customer demand with the forward looking intent to further
develop market share of those products in the industry.
Today, Cascade Engineering, along with other departments
within Cascade, assists business development by assessing
projects that provide a net benefit to the company as a whole in
the longer term. Within the scope of Cascade’s business direction,
projects are assessed against their potential to provide significant
engineering, planning, production and integrated logistic
support activities. The longer term nature of these projects also
increases the number of aircraft to be modified and/or maintained,
increasing the level of work for all departments within Cascade.

SPTT Installed in Trenton.
Engineering department include the four CAE/Lockheed C130
trainers. These trainers are the FuT (Fuselage Trainer), the
CST (Confined Space Trainer), the FAST (Fuselage and Aircraft
Systems Trainer) and the SPTT (Servicing Part Task Trainer).
Other significant projects developed by Cascade’s Engineering
department include the Q400PF (Package Freighter), Q400F
(Freighter), CRJ200PF and the CL215 turbine conversion
program.
Cascade’s Engineering department is a very close knit group
which takes part in activities outside the work place. These
activities include: Relay for Life, Dragon Boat Challenge, and the
Big Bike Ride to name just a few. We work and play hard.

Dave Beaton – 45
years with Local 4883

Forty-five years ago, on June 18, 1969, Dave Beaton
joined local 4883 United Steel Workers and since then
has had no break in service. Dave is an Inspector for
IMP Aerostructures and previously held the position of
Machinist.
He walks to and from work every day, rarely
accepting a ride no matter what shift, no matter what
the weather. Some joke that he should have been a
mail carrier. Dave is very friendly and easy to get along
with. He is a wealth of knowledge and a great allaround guy, and has mentored many inspectors over
the years.
Congratulations Dave on your achievement from

IMP Christmas Events

The Annual IMP Aerospace Employee Christmas
Party will be held November 22, 2014 at the
Atlantica Hotel in Halifax at 1980 Robie Street.
Attendees will be treated to an extensive
buffet dinner followed by a dance with live
entertainment provided by Silent Thunder. Tickets
will be on sale in the fall for $30 each or $50 per
couple. If you plan to stay at the hotel for the
night, please call now to ensure you get a room at
the IMP Employee rate.
The Children’s Christmas Party will be at Cole
Harbour Place on December 6, 2014. The pool
is booked for IMP employees and their children
