This unique series of publications currently comprises 25 distinct reference works. Each of these subsets is itself encyclopedic in nature, covering a major field of law with penetrating country-by-country monographs that describe how each national legal system governs the relevant field. These national monographs are supplemented where relevant with international monographs which detail the workings of supranational organizations that affect the field of law in question, or offer an overview of the field from a comparative perspective. Alongside the national monographs, for some specific volumes, a codex containing national and international primary legislation has been included, as well as the most important relevant case law from international courts, such as the Court of Justice of the European Communities, in that particular field. More than 1000 prominent legal practitioners in the various disciplines provide practical information and valuable insights into the legal framework and procedures specific to their country or international organization. Each monograph follows a uniform structure, and includes: I I I detailed historical background an introduction to the legal framework in-depth analysis of relevant legislation Subject indexes at the end of each monograph provide a useful and timesaving reference aid. Furthermore, a detailed topical table of contents for each monograph facilitates country-to-country and subject-to-subject comparison across all 25 fields of law. A professor with specialized knowledge in the pertinent field edits each subset of the Encyclopaedia. National Monographs When the International Encyclopaedia of Laws is completed, each subset will include approximately 50 national monographs of about 200-250 pages each. To aid comparison between countries, the monographs will follow a basic outline: International Monographs Because international law supersedes national law in many areas, some subsets also include international monographs. These are written by lawyers who work in the supranational organizations they describe – organizations such as the European Union, the International Labour Organization, the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development, the League of Arab States, the Council of Europe, the World Health Organization, and the International Maritime Organization. In addition, the Intergovernmental Organizations subset, when complete, will detail the institutional and legal position of some 55 organizations. Up to date with the latest changes: Every set in the International Encyclopaedia of Laws is updated on a regular basis, keeping subscribers informed about the latest changes in national and international law worldwide. Its multidisciplinary approach make each set an essential reference tool for practitioners and academics in each relevant field of law. Practical information: With globalisation gaining pace, legal practitioners require practical information enabling them to identify critical issues likely to affect cross-border cases. An introduction to the legal framework within each country as well as an in-depth analysis of relevant legislation are therefore included in each set. The IEL web site and the Newsletter Since April 2007 the IEL has a new web site: http://www.IELaws.com The idea behind the new web site is to have an "IEL Community" where all members can constantly and, above all, in a very simple way inform the others about legislation, events, news, and publications in their fields. The new web site will be accompanied by a Newsletter which will be sent on a regular basis to all authors (more than 1300) and subscribers.
