Adventure In Short Supply,
Said Nobody, Ever.
With North America’s greatest vertical at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, an average snowfall
of 40-60ft per year in the winter, two famous National Parks at our doorstep, easy access
to the alpine in all seasons, and more adrenaline pumping outdoor recreation than you
can shake a stick at – we’re pretty darn sure nothing is in short supply.
Ok, well maybe the crowds.
Recently named as a “must do trip” on National Geographic’s Ultimate Adventure Bucket
List, here you’ll find a vibrant mountain community with a rich heritage. Come tick one
off the list, and experience #TheRealStoke for yourself.

Revelstoke is a hiker’s paradise. There are
options spanning short to long; river valley
flats to alpine ridges; and a diversity of
ecosystems in between, including the only
inland temperate rain forest in the world.
We are lucky to have two national parks
close by, offering hikes for any level: from
short and (relatively) flat, to long, steep,
ridge walks and summits.
Outside of the parks lie a plethora of other
hiking opportunities.Whether it’s the
majestic view across a sea of peaks or an
up close examination of the alpine flowers,
you will be surrounded by beauty in your
hiking excursion.

Explore our backyard at Mount Revelstoke
National Park. From town, you can walk
up into the Park, accessing the 2 km,
5 km and Inspiration (3 km) loops as
well as the 10 km summit trail which
takes you to the top. This park spans the
gamut of ecosystems, from rain forest
(Interior Cedar/Hemlock) in lower realms,
ascending to the snow forest (Engelman
Spruce/Subalpine Fir) and ending at the
summit in upper subalpine meadows.
These meadows are flower-filled in July
and August.
From the summit, there are various short
loops (each approximately 1 km in length),
as well as some longer hikes towards Eva
and Miller Lakes and Jade Lake. These
lakes offer a refreshing dip on a hot day.
For even better views, hike up to Jade Pass.
Pack a lunch and head out for the day
45 minutes east on Hwy #1 to Rogers
Pass: the center of Glacier National Park.
Here is the birthplace of North American
mountaineering and the park is also
steeped in railway history. Glacier National
Park is well named, and when at Rogers
Pass, you will see glaciers to the north and
the south..
Abbott's Ridge is a local favorite, offering
360 degree views of the surrounding
peaks once on the ridge. Park at the
Asulkan/Illecillewaet parking lot to access
the trailhead. The official trail ends near
the start of the ridge but you can continue
towards the summit of Mt Abbott for a
little ways if you are comfortable with
exposure.

Revelstoke climbing is best known for its easily accessible,
single pitch sports climbing on steep rock. Most routes
range from easier 5.8 to difficult 5.12 climbing. Before you
hit the wall, stop off at Valhalla Pure for a Revelstoke Rock
guidebook. Most of the crags don’t have signs, and this book
has excellent information on how to get there. Always pack a
helmet when heading out climbing in Revelstoke.
The Vertically Inclined
Head out to Begbie Bluffs, a zone housing single pitch, easily
accessible sports climbing. This climbing area is located just
10 minutes out of town on Hwy 23 S. A 15 minute walk on a
well-defined trail will have you climbing in no time.. This area
is kid and dog friendly, and most walls have afternoon sun. A
spectacular day can be spent on these key walls: Raptor wall,
Rabbit wall, Popeye wall, and Bifacial wall. Some of the best
climbs in this area are: High and Dry 5.8, Bifacial Retouch 5.9,
Quid Pro Quo 5.10a, Octagon 10.b, Good Guys Wear Black
5.10b, Flashdance 5.11a, and Spanakopita 5.11c.
Spend the morning at Blanket Canyon/Blanket Creek Bridge:
Single pitch steep sports climbs in a shady canyon where
you’ll find solitude by the flowing creek. This area is located
24 kms from town on Hwy 23 S, there is a 5 minute steep
walk in, and you'll find climbs ranging from 5.10a – 5.12b.
The best climbs at Blanket Canyon: Schweppes 5.10a, Zygote
5.11b, Security Blanket 5.12b. The best climbs at Blanket
Creek Bridge: Undercover 5.10c, Electric Blanket 5.11b,
Blanket Arete 5.10d (2-pitches). These areas are not suitable
for kids or dogs.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at Shaketown, full of short single pitch
sports climbing and socializing. Try your hand at: Quicksilver
Daydreams 5.10b, Two Hands 5.11a, Flying Shoes 5.11b.
If you've still got some juice, head down to Waterworld, 2-4
pitch adventurous steep sports climbs over top of Revelstoke
Lake. Just 12km on Hwy 23 N, and a 5 minute walk in, these
climbs range from 5.10b – 5.12a. Take caution of potential
rock fall and always wear a helmet. Be sure to choose a climb
well within your means, as you rappel down and then climb
back out. Best climbs: Pirates of the Waterworld 5.10b and No
Panic In The Titanic 5.11b. This area is not suitable for kids or
dogs.

Revelstoke is home to hundreds of kilometres of sweet singletrack
offering up something for every type of rider. World class trail
networks can be found on all sides of the valley bottom, dozens
of shuttle access freeride trails snake through the mid-mountain
elevations, and up high you’ll find our trademark alpine trails. It
would take weeks to ride everything here but if you’ve only got a
couple of days, then stock up on energy bars (or burritos and Mt
Begbie beer) and follow this jam-packed itinerary.
Head out early to Mt. Macpherson for a quick spin on some classic
Revy singletrack. Flowdown is a great new trail that is buff and fast
while trails like Tantrum and Sex On The Beach will give you more
of a technical challenge. If eye popping all-mountain type descents
are what you’re after then check out trails like Berm Donor, SuperHappy-Fun or my favourite, TNT to Break-a-Leg.
After your morning pedal, fuel up and get yourself dropped off at
the Frisby Ridge XC trailhead. This buttery smooth out-and-back trail
climbs through old growth forests and alpine meadows for 11 km
before dropping down to a small alpine lake, very invigorating on a
warm summer day. The views are amazing in all directions, but keep
your eyes on the trail and revel in the fast, flowing and super-playful
descent back to the trailhead parking area. Continue on to the steep
and technical Ultimate Frisby DH trail and keep shredding. This trail
combo dishes up over 5000 feet of descending and measures in at
30km total.
The Frisby DH spits you out at the base of Boulder Mountain,
Revelstoke’s freeride playground. Go and do some shuttle laps of
Loggin’ Leftovers, Iron Lotus, or local’s favourite, Boondocker. There
are about a dozen distinct trails on Boulder which offer something
for everyone. Wooden features, jumps, drops, steeps, and high
speed flow are all found on these DH trails. Finish your day shuttling
right into the sunset.
Start your morning with a scenic drive to the Keystone Standard
Basin trailhead. Keystone is another Revelstoke alpine treasure.
More technically demanding than Frisby, Keystone is an 11.5 km
out-and-back trail that challenges riders with its steep punchy
climbs, rugged fast descents and exposed side-hill sections, all
mixed in with the most perfect alpine singletrack you will find
anywhere. This backcountry trail sports awe-inspiring views and is
the epitome of Revelstoke mountain biking. Big mountains and big
adventure!
On your way back to town you will find the Sale Mtn FSR and the
EPIC Martha Creek DH trail, a favourite amongst Dh’ers and Enduro
riders. Shuttle up 5000 feet to the summit of Sale Mountain and get
gripped for a thrilling 9 km descent! The trail finishes at the Martha
Creek Provincial Park on the shores of Lake Revelstoke, the perfect
place to wrap up your weekend with a refreshing swim and a
satisfying “Cheers!”

The Revy Riders Dirtbike Club's trail system and
tracks are rapidly gaining a reputation as one of
the best all-around riding areas in Canada. They
are conveniently located just 10 km's north of
downtown Revelstoke off of the paved Westside
Road.
The Moto Head
A full sized Motocross track and a challenging
Endurocross track await you, as does the hugely
popular kids and beginners track.
The staging area also hosts a viewing platform for
spectators to conveniently check out the action, and
a nice kiosk with information and maps for entire
riding areas.
Pick up your copy at
the Revelstoke Visitor
Information Centre.
The trail network features two main separate
riding areas, the original Lower Frisby trails and
to the north, the Deadmans Creek trails. Each
have incredible riding, spectacular views, and as
challenging of a trail as you desire.
For more information please check out www.
revyriders.com or see Revy Riders Dirtbike Club on
Facebook and Twitter.
Warm up with some laps of our tracks to get the
blood flowing:
-Full sized motocross track with plenty of big, safe
tabletops to launch and big, sandy berms to rail
-An Endurocross track with the latest and usual
obstacles
-A separate and specific kids and beginners track
Once you've had your fill of the tracks, beginners
should check out "Kick Start" or "Easy Street." If you
are a more Intermediate skilled rider, "Ego Trip" is a
huge hit. Each of these trails are on the Lower Frisby
network.
Once you've reached expert status, after some loops
on "Hybrid" or "Squirrel City ", the long and very
challenging "Rowlands Revenge" will give you what
you desire. This trail, with its remoteness, relentless
features, and amazing views, will certainly go down
as one of the premier trails in Canada.

After warming up with a day on the resort, book a day-trip with
any of the cat ski operations around Revelstoke. Either join a
group as a solo rider, or talk to the operation about filling a

amazing deep powder descents and cozy climbs, as you kick back

are equipped with sound systems, and are happy to facilitate
between-run dance parties.
With a belly full of gourmet cookies, (cat and heliski operations
are known for fueling their guests with decadent cuisine) and a

Many of the local heliski operations offer an array of single and

The Backcountry Junkie
Powder slayers, deep snow lovers, you found yourself at the
right place! Revelstoke is an amazing place to ski in and out
of bounds. With record snowfall every year, whether you are
a resort skier or a backcountry fanatic, there are plenty of
options to satisfy your craving for adventures.
Of course with the desire to explore comes a fair amount
of risk. Before heading out to spend an incredible day in
the mountains, make sure you and your group have the
appropriate equipment, knowledge, and information about
the snowpack, avalanche condition and weather. Every day
starts with a quick look at www.avalanche.ca. If you feel
overwhelmed and want to make the most of your day in the
mountains, think about hiring a ski guide. Play safe & enjoy!
Ski local at our go-to zone on Mount Macpherson. Whether
you simply want to go out for a small day or a full one, Mt
Macpherson never disappoints. Park at the Cross-Country
ski lodge (5$ parking fee) follow the Main Loop up until you
get to the Mountain Climb Trail, which is the second trail
junction about 1.5 km from the Parking Lot. From there, the
cross-country ski trail will end with a bridge crossing. The
uphill track starts from there. There are several options from
this point. You can either climb up “The fingers” which are the
prominent avalanche corridors that can be seen from town.
The Fingers are ideal for a shorter day or multiple descents.
You can climb to the top of the fingers and explore the ridge
finally leading to the summit if you have the legs and the
lungs. From the summit, skiing “The Womb,” which is a large
avalanche path on the skier’s right of the summit is always a
great end to the day. If, from the bridge, you choose to keep
going on the Mountain climb trail until the end, you will find
yourself surrounded by large cedar trees. Lap these trees or
climb higher to gain a zone called the Burnt Nob.
If you are willing to drive, nothing is quite like a day at
Rogers Pass. Head 75km East of Revelstoke and you will find
yourself in Glacier National Park, one of the best places to
backcountry ski in Canada. The possibilities are endless here.
The best place to start is a quick visit to the Discovery Centre
where you can buy you Park Pass, get a Day permit for access,
and find out what zones are open for the day. Please note
that artillery is used regularly for avalanche control to keep
the highway corridor safe for all, so it is your responsibility
to check that the area you are wanting to explore is actually
open that day.
One great zone to ski/ride is actually right from the Discovery
Centre. Walk behind the hotel to find the trailhead. Follow the
trail up the Connaught drainage to find many options along
the way. Grizzly Shoulder, Teddy Bear Trees and Ursus Trees
and 8812 are on the right hand side. Hour Glass & Cheops are
on the left side of the drainage.

The Nordic Enthusiast
The Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club can trace its roots back to 1891.
Today the club is a registered non-profit organization. Almost
all of the services provided by the club are accomplished by
the hundreds of volunteer hours of its members. These services
include trail maintenance, trail grooming, groomer servicing,
special events, website maintenance, our newsletter, and a Ski
League Program for children. The trailhead is 7 km south of
Revelstoke on Highway 23, at an elevation of about 640 metres.
The Revelstoke area is famous for its huge snowfall (almost
350 cm per year measured at the Revelstoke Airport) and
the trail system’s easterly aspect helps keep snow conditions
excellent throughout the season. Approximately 26 km of trails
are groomed for both skating and classic technique with a
Bombardier BR275.
Group and private lessons are available through our in-house
coach, and ski rentals are offered at local Nordic retailers. Our
snow phone, website, and Facebook page can provide you with
daily trail condition reports.
Grooming usually starts in late November with a final grooming in
late March. For the 2014/15 season, we have a new light system
on 6km of trails.

Take a morning group or private lesson with our in-house Nordic
coach to hone your skills and learn new techniques. Contact
coach@revelstokenordic.org to book. After your lesson, grab Fido
out of the vehicle for a quick lap around our popular dog loop
along BCIT and Roadway Ramble. Check the Nordic Trail Map if
you are unsure of the location of any trails.
Head back to Revelstoke for lunch and a relaxing afternoon
downtown. Check out some of our local Nordic retailers if you're
in need of some new gear.
Now that you’re comfortable on the trails, show up after dark. Ski
our six kilometers of new lit trails, and then put on your headlamp
with a picnic dinner in your backpack and ski up to the Ole
Sandberg cabin, via the Main Loop trail. The cabin is rustic and
basic, with a wood stove and a large deck. After dinner, finish your
ski around Main Loop and back to the main day lodge.
Try out the perimeter loop; clockwise, beginning with Mickey’s
Loop, Main Loop, Loggers Lane, and Hydro Way, and making your
way back via Beaver Lake, Easy Al’s, and Roadway Ramble. Extend
this with a quick descent down Novice glide and back up Cedar
Ramble if you want a longer ski.

Sledding in Revelstoke offers some of the best mountain
riding in the world and every day I am thankful to be living in
such a picture perfect town! Seeing the sun rise over Boulder
Mountain means a great day ahead. Our two most popular
riding areas are Boulder and Frisby Mountains, offering
groomed trails up into the alpine.
The Mountain Sledder
Once in the alpine the riding is endless, from deep and open
bowls, to tight and technical trees. Being up in the mountains
during the winter is a sight to behold, with views as far as the
eye can see.
Get up early to chase the powder. Join a morning snowmobile
tour – your certified guide will ensure you get the best out
of your ride, the groomed trails on Frisby Ridge, and the
legendary alpine powder.
Now that you are familiar with your machine, the trails, and
the snowpack, rent a snowmobile, and spend the afternoon
exploring the vast network of groomed trails and challenging
alpine terrain on Frisby Ridge and Boulder mountains. Don’t
forget a trail map.Take a flask and enjoy a hot chocolate at
the Frisby Cabin, and push your limits on the Bill Gill Trail right
up to the summit as darkness falls on the spectacular views.
Now head back down to town for a well-deserved cold Mount
Begbie Brew!
Rent a snowmobile (or use your own machine), and explore.
Pack some food, extra layers and all your safety gear. Trailer up
and take a drive to one of the epic snowmobile zones in the
surrounding area. Try Sale Mountain or Keystone/Standard
basin to the North, or Hall Mountain to the South. Be sure to
check for current snow and avalanche conditions, and obey
all seasonal area closures. Contact revelstokesnowmobileclub.
com for more details, and avalanche.ca for the latest bulletins.
After all that, your aching body will appreciate a soak in the
hot tub at the Community Centre or at your hotel. Treat
yourself to a massage at one of Revelstoke’s finest spas to
ease those tired muscles. Share your stories and adventures
with your buddies over dinner, and start planning your next
snowmobile trip in Revelstoke.

The Fun Family
The magnificent mountain scenery and
the enormous amounts of snow that
fall here during the winter is what really
put Revelstoke on the map, but there
are so many more attractions that make
Revelstoke one of the best places to live,
explore and experience with your family.
In the winter months, head to Turtle Creek
at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, which
features a magic carpet for beginner
skiiers, and a tubing area that is sure to
keep your little ones entertained. Nordic
skiing at Mount Macpherson is a great
place to visit with the family, bring some

National Park, a great destination for all
ages with an easy 2km loop on a beautiful

Head back towards Revelstoke and then

Revelstoke. One of our favorite places to
bring a picnic lunch or dinner is Martha

Hwy 23N. There is a pebbly beach with
a large shoreline to explore and a great
playground with mountain scenery that
can't be beat. The water is cool and clear
and mighty refreshing on a hot day. Stop
in at the Revelstoke Dam on route!
If you find yourself here on a rainy day,
head to the Aquatic Center - featuring a
great water slide, warm leisure pool, hot
tub, sauna, steam room and lap pool. All
the windows and beautiful murals make
you feel like you are still outside!

that offer great views of the surrounding
mountains and rivers.

The History Buff
Revelstoke is a community that oozes
history around every corner. From the
lovingly restored heritage homes and
commercial buildings, to the numerous
museums, there is an opportunity for
everyone to get in touch with the spirit
of Revelstoke. Stroll down any street
in Revelstoke, and you see that it has
retained many of its original early 20th
century business buildings. This is a
city that acknowledges its history and
celebrates it.
The community was established in 1885
during the time of construction of the
Canadian Pacific Railway, but even long
before that the Sinixt First Nation, the
explorers and fur traders, and the gold
miners were discovering the beauties and
the challenges of this region.
There are many ways to explore this
fascinating history. We are proud of our
history and heritage and are delighted to
share it with you.

Cathy's Suggestions - Day 1
To begin your exploration of Revelstoke’s
history, start at Revelstoke Museum
and Archives, where you can spend an
hour learning about the origins of the
community and discovering the impact of
avalanches in this region in the stunning
new “Land of Thundering Snow” exhibit.
Marvel Revelstoke’s ski pioneers in the
“First Tracks” exhibit. If your family has
arly connections to Revelstoke, talk to the
knowledgeable archives staff to explore
your roots. Pick up a copy of the Heritage
Walking Tour brochure for a self-guided
tour of the city and enjoy a leisurely stroll
through the beautiful Heritage Garden.
A trip to Revelstoke wouldn’t be complete
without a guided tour of the Nickelodeon
Museum, a remarkable private collection
of mechanical musical instruments.
Plan for 1 ½ to 2 hours for this unique
experience. The collection is housed in the
beautifully restored McKinnon block, built
in 1912 as a pool hall.
End your day with a walk along the
Revelstoke River Trail, starting at the
Community Centre, and follow the
heritage markers for a history lesson
as you enjoy stunnign views along the
Columbia River, and across the Mark
Kingsbury Pedestrian Bridge.

Cathy's Suggestions - Day 2
Today, head to the Revelstoke Railway
Museum, where you can chat with a
retired locomotive engineer, and try your
hand at driving an engine yourself on the
railway simulator. Marvel at the size and
power of Engine 5468, and learn of the
struggles to build and maintain a railway
through this rugged terrain. Plan on 1-2
hours to explore this museum.
Walk from the Railway Museum to the
Tournament of Champions Circle to
discover more about Revelstoke’s ski
history, and follow the trail up to the Nels
Nelsen interpretive area, where you can
see the original ski jump. Continue your
exploration of Mount Revelstoke National
Park on foot by ascending the Summit
Trail, or drive the Meadows in the Sky
Parkway to Balsam Lake. Plan on 2-3 hours
to fully explore Mount Revelstoke National
Park, or longer if you are on foot.
Revelstoke has an abundance of rich
forests, and the best way to explore the
region’s connection to the forests is by a
visit to the B.C. Interior Forestry Museum
on Highway 23 North, near the Revelstoke
Dam Visitor Centre. Be amazed at the early
equipment used by Revelstoke’s pioneer
loggers, and discover the importance of
the forest industry to this region.

maybe even be working on a piece.
Next door is the unique, world famous Nickelodeon Museum. Book a tour and be
prepared to be amazed at the huge range of mechanical musical instruments.

Location
Revelstoke is located on the Trans Canada Highway, nestled
between the Selkirk and Monashee Mountain ranges in one of
the most beautiful places on earth. Our town is surrounded by
two National Parks - Mt Revelstoke from the east and Glacier
from the west. These two parks collaboratively make for some
of the most breathtaking scenery British Columbia has to offer.
By Air
Scheduled regional service with national and international
connections is available in the nearby centers of Kelowna (2.5
hours to the southwest) and Kamloops (3 hours to the west),
with ground transport to Revelstoke. International access
is available to gateway airports in Calgary and Vancouver,
transferring to regional airlines and/or ground transport.
Direct scheduled flights to and from Kelowna are also available
from major North American hub airports including Seattle, Los
Angeles, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary.
By Car
Revelstoke is located right on the Trans-Canada Highway
(Hwy #1), making it easy to access from both the east and the
west. Travelling from the east, you pass through two National
Parks in the Selkirk Mountains, featuring views of white-water
rivers, pristine forests, dramatic peaks, and impressive glaciers.
Travelling from the west, your journey takes you through
the scenic Okanagan Valley. If you are renting a vehicle and
traveling during our snowy Revelstoke winter months, allow
extra travel time for weather, and make sure to have winter
tires on your vehicle. Check Drive BC for the latest road
conditions (www.drivebc.ca).
